Could be good. Could suck balls. Best possible director I could name for it lol; and it's henz approved for just putting a stop to AvP teabagging this once great series. It would be awesome if this film sparked life into the title; maybe Alien 5 would follow. I've always kinda wanted Weaver to do Ripley one more time.
Anyone else interested in this?

I'm very excited! It had to have taken one hell of a script to get Ridley to return, so that alone gives me a ton of hope. Ridley is one of my all-time favorite directors (Black Hawk Down, Alien, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven are all among my favorite movies), and him returning to the series is almost too awesome to believe.
Prequel to the first movie makes the most sense, as there is some fun room to play with there, especially since it will most likely deal with the events that lead the Nostromo to the planetoid where the aliens are first discovered.

This is great! I really need to catch up on the Alien franchise. I just watched Alien 3 the other day. Speaking of Alien 3, how did Ripley know that the embryo insider her was a queen embryo?

Bleh. I liked Gladiator as a kid, so that movie still brings me warm fuzzies, but I think Ridley's movies are usually boring, slow moving, often pointless, and unspeakably pretentious. Won't be checking this out.

I've only seen Blade Runner and Alien I think, but I love both.
Ripley knew it was a queen from the scan she did in the remains of her escape pod... I think.

Ripley knew it was a queen from the scan she did in the remains of her escape pod... I think. Yeah but how did she know it was a "Queen" and not just another regular alien? I always thought the Alien species was like a colony with only one Queen. In which that Queen produced more and more offspring. Kind of like ants and stuff. If that is so, then I believe the Queen in Alien vs. Predator survived being dragged into the ocean. After all, she later appears on LV-426 in Aliens. Or can there be more than one Queen?

There's more than one queen. The one in Ripley's chest was a queen; it's used as such in Alien Ressurection, and is different looking to the regular chestburster (probably how Ripley knew from the scan also)

Oh yeah, forgot to add Blade Runner to my list as well. Thelma and Louise and Matchstick Men too. Man, Ridley is awesome.

Hey... teabagging is NOT always bad... Ben: Even ant queens produce new queens that then go off to start new colonies. How Ripley knew that it was a queen... could be a shared psychic link or something. Mothers have often been said to be quite attuned to their unborn offspring... or it was just a convenient leap of faith that they went on. Haven't watched Alien 3 in a long time... some of the details are quite slippy at the moment.

Do we really need another prequel in another franchise? Seeing all these prequels getting made all over the place is driving me crazy

If it's a prequel to the first known human contact with the aliens though, won't that mean that there won't be any actual aliens in it? Is it going to focus on those weird dead elephant things in the ship that brought the aliens to LV-426?

Do we really need another prequel in another franchise? Seeing all these prequels getting made all over the place is driving me crazy At least its going to be a new film and not another remake. Although I wouldn’t mind an Alien remake… someday. But I just don’t see anyone else pulling off Ripley except for Sigourney Weaver. If it's a prequel to the first known human contact with the aliens though, won't that mean that there won't be any actual aliens in it? Say what? *is confused*

I'd only watch an alien film for Sigourney Weaver, and theres no way she'll be in any more especially this one, so I doubt I'll see it....

Say what? *is confused* What I mean is: if the film is a prequel and the first film documents the first contact between humans and these aliens, then how can something set before it also have aliens in it? The Company certainly doesn't seem to know much about the aliens before the Nostromo land down on LV-426 - they just home in on an interesting beacon.

I personally would like to know more about the "Space Jockey" creatures who were the original beings that harnassed the aliens we know as weapons! We see the large deceased alien sitting in the cockpit of the spacecraft in the beginning of Alien. Here's a description from Wiki: "The Space Jockey is discovered in Alien when the commercial starship Nostromo sets down on the unsurveyed moon LV-426 to investigate an unknown signal. The crew finds a crashed derelict spacecraft with its fossilized pilot -- the Space Jockey -- inside. The derelict ship contains several thousand alien eggs. Scott suggests in his Alien DVD commentary that the Jockey's ship was a "bomber": alien eggs could be dropped on an enemy planet, and the aliens would proceed to kill the population as they spawned. According to Cameron, the Space Jockey's craft picked up alien eggs and the pilot became infected by the dangerous cargo; the ship landed on LV-426 and the Space Jockey transmitted the signal as a warning."

^ That's pretty interesting. I was always curious about the nature of the distress signal that brought the Nostromo to LV-426. There's definitely something to explore there.

While that is interesting it doesn't seem to be enough to make a movie out of. You know?

Alien is a true classic, similar to ones like Star Wars. I doubt anyone would ever do a re-make, let alone allow someone else to helm it. The film is strong enough to stand up to many of today's modern sci-fi/horror movies, and it's still on top!
Well, I don't think an entire movie about the race of creatures that The Pilot came from would be good, but I do think it could play a part in an overall piece. It is interesting enough I think. But an Alien movie without Ripley!? Say it ain't so!!
