I just rewatched Angel season 3 and I saw the episode: "old gang of mine". at the end the conversation goes something like this.
Gunn:I think I proved you could trust me when I could've killed you but I didn't.
Angel: No, You'll prove I can trust you when the day comes that you have to Kill me and you do.
Normally I'd write this off as a plot device but in After the fall Brian lynch incorporated alot of stuff from the past of ATS, especially a quote that appeared all throughout, "If nothing we do matters then the only thing that matters is what we do", which was from way back in season 2. Which makes me wonder if since Gunn had to kill Angel to set things right, does that mean their bond will be stronger for it when they reconcile at some pt? I think The whole Angel/ Gunn relationship has some new depths to be explored.

Interesting point, but I think that Angel was probably referring to a different situation, where HE was the evil out of control vampire, not Gunn. Ironic I suppose.

I'm sure he didnt mean it that way it was just a funny coincidence which could play in favor of the story as far as character development.

I wouldn't immediately dismiss the idea; Brian IS a huge Angel fan after all. (He finds time to hang around with us, that's gotta mean something ) Although you're probably right about him referring to Angelus at the time, it does also speak to the kind of relationship that Angel and Gunn have - whatever you may think that is. I personally see it as a kind of mentoring thing - because Angel is a vampire with a soul, he has the capacity to show Gunn that true demons are more than just the physical reality of what they are. Gunn, of course, learns this the hard way via Fred's death in Season Five and his subsequent actions in After the Fall. They make a good team. I wish they were together more often.

I hope Willingham brings Gunn back into the picture. I think he said that some old faces would be returning and his book launches the month after the end of only human.

Actually, that point more serves to prove that Angel wasn't being a friend to vampire!Gunn when he didn't kill him.
But the inverted connection is interesting to say the least.

While I think Angel was speaking about himself at the time, it still applies. Gunn had to kill him to save Hell-LA. Perhaps Brian saw the connection too!
