calling all Rentheads! the Musicals thread in the music board wasn't enough for me, so i decided to create a Rent thread!
so i got into Rent a year or so ago when my sister showed me the movie. and then a couple days ago we bough the Final Show Filmed Live on Brodway movie, which was a BILLION times better. or at least the show was, some of the actors were...no so much as good as the movie ones (who were mostly the original Broadway actors)
so yeah, if i had my way, i would have the cast of all the people form the movie, except for Renee Goldsberry as Mimi (form teh final production) and then i can't decide between Idina Menzel (original cast/movie) or Eden Espinosa (final production) for Maureen. i know i'd have Tracie Thoms (final production/movie) over Fredi Walker (original cast) any day though. joanne is my favorite character, adn Tracie Thoms is my favorite actress from it.
Sadly, i never got to see it live, adn i probably never will, unless it goes back to Broadway in, like, 40 years.
so my faovrite songs are (in no particular order):
I'll Cover You Take Me Or Leave Me La Vie Boheme Christmass Belss Happy New Year Goodbye Love
so...any other Rentheads out there?

-waves hand wildly- Oh, me! I have a large space in my heart dedicated to musicals, and Rent fills up a good chunk of that. I too have only seen the movie, but I'd like to see the actual play somehow someday. Hmm... my favorite songs are: Goodbye Love Take Me Or Leave Me La Vie Boheme Tango: Maureen Without You Actually, I love them all.

I was a total Renthead in 8th grade. I think I actually watched it at least 3 times a week for a good two months. That was three or four years ago now, so I'm less in love than I was then, but it's still pretty good. I'll listen to the music if it comes up on shuffle. And my favorite songs, that I can remember... La Vie Boheme Take Me or Leave Me I'll Cover You Light My Candle

you guys should watch the final performance DVD filmed live on Broadway. if you think the movie's amazing, seeing it on an actual stage in full, un-cut musical awesomeness with songs lik e'Contact' (literally the song in which they all have sex) and stuff. It takes a little getting used to with this cast (except Joanne, who is still Tracie Thoms.) especially Roger, because he has some kind of lisp or accent or something that makes him sound a little odd....still amazing, though.

I loveeeee Rent. It was my whole life my freshman year of HS (it stopped me from seeing Serenity the day it came out because I was too preoccupied, grr), and for the past few years I've loved it, but less obsessively, lol. My favorite songs would probably be Christmas Bells, I Should Tell You, I'll Cover You (Reprise), Without You, Contact, and Goodbye Love. Oh, and Happy New Year & Happy New Year B. I've seen it wayyy too many times live... I saw it first in August of 2005, and for about a year I saw it like 11 times or something. (I live about an hour and a half from NYC, that's why, lol). On August 1, my boyfriend and I saw it in upstate New York, with Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal...so amazing finally seeing them live! I was so excited I had my mom give me an early bday gift, so she's taking me to Rhode Island to see it a week after, in November. ...heh. Hilarious that I consider myself no longer obsessed. It's not my favorite musical, but it still has a big place in my heart as being my first Bway show, and my first real Bway obsession. I talk a lot when it's about stuff I like, in case you hadn't noticed. Edit: Totally agree with Just Willow, the final performance was beautifully filmed, with a good cast. (I just LOVE Justin Johnston as Angel.) It's such a nice way to see the show.

Haha I know! I always thought Contact was the best...probably when I was 14 it was because it was about sex though. Reefer Madness and Rent are what got me into musicals, 'cause I realized it wasn't all old-timey cliche Broadway stuff, lol.

I love Rent!! I saw the movie first, then listened to the whole musical album later. It's technically a rock opera, but I love it anyways! My favorite character is Joanne, she rocks at life and is also the perfect girlfriend too. How does she stand Maureen? Ah, I love them both anyway! Fave Songs: One Song, Glory I'll Cover You (reprise) La Vie Boheme The Finale I guess those songs are a little out there but those songs are the ones that really got me in the heart.

woot! Joanne forever!
it's hard NOT to love people in this show. the only people that fans don't like are certain actors, never the characters.

it's hard NOT to love people in this show. the only people that fans don't like are certain actors, never the characters. Yeah, that's definitely true. Some actors should NEVER have been put in the musical in any of its forms. I've seen a couple of actors in the show that were literally awful. When I saw it on tour in 2005, the actress playing Mimi could barely even act, let alone sing. On the same tour, the actor playing Roger completely forgot the lyrics to One Song Glory and sang, "One song................oh shit." Lol. It's okay to forget things sometimes, but you should never swear when you miss a line.

La Vie Boheme is soooooo good! they do in incredible job in the movie, the choreography is awesome, very close to what's in the show, too.
