Today this suddenly come in to my mind it seems that every single dad/son pair in buffyverse relationship is pretty bad Liam's dad never approved him Angel and Connor relationship is just messy pre season 5 Buffy's dad ran away, he didn't even come back when her mum died Xander... as far as we know it's not a happy family Cordelia's dad evade taxes and destroyed their family Wesley and his watcher's dad... (well though apperantly everyone who met roger has issue with him... so I guess it's just his problem? ) I just hoped to see a happy family for once like how things used to be when Connor was a baby

Let's not forget Willow and her family.
Amy and her dad seemed okay in season 1. But then she went rat and then evil so I guess their relationship went south.

I don't think there was a mention of Amy's dad during her ratness. In case he'd known, he'd probably want to keep Amy the rat instead of letting a stranger take care of her.
I wrote a fic about how Amy turned evil. After she came home to her dad after the de-rating, he didn't take it very well, and shut her out. Then she went very bad.
I think that could have been what made her turn evil on the show, that her dad got scared of her, maybe even left her.
I don't think Willow's family was even mentioned after season 3. Maybe they were out of town? They seemed to travel a lot, leaving Willow at home.

What's the checkpoint in every Saturn's review ? Men bad/Women good. Of course they all have daddy issue. Even Lorne (well his mother looked like a dad, but..) Tara, or that demon girl roommate of Buffy in Living Conditions (her demon parents didn't want her to go to college)

Joss did an interview (no idea when or where) but he was asked about "the daddy issue" topic. He of course made mention to the fact that he himself has daddy issues and that until recently he and his father had a strained relationship.

Now it just seem like you're trying to insult him/her behind his/her back. No offence.

Fred was pretty much the only person who ever had a good father. Then again, she's like this really sweet, really innocent person, so of course she's gotta have a good dad

well I always consider Fred to be the Willow in Angel extremely smart (though Fred is still much smarter), the technology gal and both were kinda socially awkward in the beginning .

The only major characters that I can think of that didn't have daddy issues were Fred, Oz (his parents were barely mentioned), and Riley, who seemed to have a very nice family.

If Riley was supposed to be the pristine, clean-cut, Iowa-born America homeboy, then yeah it would make sense for him to have a good relationship with his father. I don't remember if Gunn's parents were mentioned at all...?

Was Willow's father ever mentioned specifically? I know she had mommy issues (in Gingerbread), but I don't remember her father ever mentioned good or bad.

The only mention is in "Passion" when she comments that Ira Rosenberg would be very unhappy that his only daughter was nailing crucifixes to the wall. This suggests that he is serious religiously, but says nothing really about his relationship to Willow.

Gunn had parents?? I think Gunn has been living on the streets since he was young He wasn't conceived immaculately, if that's what you're saying. In Angel: Only Human, it's revealed that he'd been living with his grandma for most of his life. I'm at home right now so I don't have access to my books, but I don't think he really talks about his parents that much - it's more about how his grandma trained him to be the vampire-fighting machine he came to be in the show.

Haha lol. As far as I knew, he had been living on the streets since he was young, raising his sister and fighting vamps. I don't have Only Human, so I didn't know about his grandma

I don't have Only Human, so I didn't know about his grandma Hmm, that's an interesting conundrum to address - I myself had forgotten his explicit mention of training to fight vamps with his sister since they were young. Either way, there appears to be a significant lack of a father figure here. At best, he had a really bad-ass grandma.
