That's an interesting take on the situation, Sky. I had never thought of the idea that the fact that Tara isn't one of Buffy's closest friends makes it easier for Buffy to confide in her. I think that there definitely is some sense that she knows Tara will be able to handle the situation and provide support, but you're right in that Tara represents a safer option to talk to than Willow, who is perhaps too close to the situation for Buffy to confide in her.

I don't think they were going for that, I believe that Tara and Buffy already had their first real one-on-one moment in season 5 when Joyce died and they were in the hospital and Tara was trying to comfort her....I loved that scene, it did show some awkwardness between the two because they didn't really know each other but i think it was that scene that broke down the awkward barrier between them and after that there was no reason for the writers to make a link for Buffy and Tara. I think this scene just reinforced their quiet friendship because Buffy knows Tara would be their for her when she needs someone to hear her secret with understanding and compassion. Completely agree. As others have said, perhaps it was easier for Buffy to open up to Tara because they weren't that close. She couldn't go to Willow and Xander for fear that they would judge her, and she saw Tara as the one person in her life at that moment who wouldn't judge her (kind of ironic given Tara's reaction to the possibility of Buffy sleeping with Spike in S5's Intervention, but that is neither here nor there ). Buffy confided in Tara in a moment of desperation and Tara was there for her. I think it represents a beautiful moment between them. I also love that moment between Buffy and Tara at the hospital after Joyce's passing. So touching that Tara, someone relatively new to the group, would take the time to reach out to Buffy because she is the only one there who truly understands what Buffy is going through, having experienced the loss of her own mother. In the midst of overwhelming grief, I like to think that Buffy found comfort and solace in that moment of shared experience with Tara. I also love how you describe their relationship as a "quiet friendship." To me, this describes their relationship perfectly, perhaps they weren't the closest of friends, but friends they were, and beautiful moments like those mentioned above show that.
