I'm not convinced by the Giles theories: wouldn't that throw a spanner in the proverbials for Ripper, if it ever makes it to screen? I remember Joss saying something about coming up with the idea for Fray when he realised a Faith spin-off would fiddle with the timeline of season seven.
I'm not sure about Riley, either. Unless it's technology that's giving Twilight his superman superpowers, then using so much magic seems to go against everything we've ever known about Riley as a character.
I think it's Whistler.

Because in the end....I f***ing hate Joss Whedon and I will not let that f***ing bastard win by driving me away. Wait a minute; what? Make sure you leave some Kool Aid for the rest of us next time. MB x

When asked when the first arc was set, Joss said the new season exists in 'comic book time'. I think the thing to keep in mind is that Dawn is in college, and Buffy and the Scoobies are all 'twentysomething'. Still finding their place in the world, still confused as people, still fascinating as characters.
Although, on an age-related note, riddle me this: how old was Faith supposed to be in relation to Buffy? As in, is she older or younger? I never quite got a grip in Faith's backstory...

Are we talking about the same Joss Whedon? The one who brought Spike back from the dead because fans loved him so much? The one who turned season six of Buffy into The Willow Show? The one who kept Lorne hanging around for four seasons because people thought he was 'hilarious', despite the fact that he served no purpose and would frequently disappear whenever the plot was about to happen? Then, yes. Joss has commented more than once to the fans' reaction to Tara's death, and he's demonstrated in the past that his story is - to a certain extent - dictated by the fans, even if he is keen to impress this idea of 'giving people what they need'. And his comments have shown that he is very sensitive to the way Tara died, and how it has been perceived negatively by a certain subsect of the fandom. I don't think he'd introduce a new lesbian character only to kill her off within a few issues. If he was planning on killing Satsu off all along, I don't think he would have been stupid enough to mention her sexuality... But I've been wrong in the past. MB x

Do people really think Joss 'fan service!' Whedon would be stupid enough to introduce another potential lesbian into his franchise and then kill her/have her go evil after a few issues?

My boyfriend is big on onomastics: apparently one interpretation of the name Satsu is that - broken apart - it means 'assistant' and 'haven'. Another meaning is 'killer'.

What about Chao-Ahn? I would love to see her in the "Wolves at the Gate" arc! (She didn't die did she?) She was hilarious. Definitely my favourite potential. Chao-ahn was Chinese, 'Wolves at the Gate' - as far as I'm aware - is set in Japan. Not that it makes any difference where a Potential is from and where they could turn up, but if Chao-ahn is going to be in Japan, I'd like to see Vi there, too. An early seasons Willow retread, but there's a reason people liked early seasons Willow. There is also something between Satsu and Buffy. Why is Buffy so close to her? I think it might have something to do with Buffy knowing about the Cinnamon lipgloss. Interesting previews, I'm looking forward to reading the issue. I love Scooby-on-Scooby scenes, something this series has been severely lacking so far. MB x

The title is also really cool and makes a lot of sense now: "A Beautiful Sunset" = Twilight. Also, it refers back to issue one, where Buffy says the Twilight symbol looks like 'a beautiful sunset'. Now that the Big Bad is in action, I'm - finally - excited about these comics. MB x

Does anyone else think it's kinda weird that they have a stand-alone story in the middle of an arc? It's not in the middle of an arc. It comes after the standalone with Willow and Buffy and before the four issue 'Xander goes to Tokyo' storyline. MB x

I wouldn't worry too much about Jo Chen, I'm sure she'll be back sooner or later; she's probably just skipping a month to get caught up on her projects. She has been churning out a cover almost every month since the comic started, and she had a good while to get ahead of herself before the first issue was released; I'm sure by that point we'd seen the covers for issues 1 - 4, at least.

I bet Dawn gets pissed and simply runs around Toyko and smashes the shit out of those crazy vampires! Also, do we know for certain Kumiko is a vampire? All that was said was that she is a witch... As excited as I am to see Dawnzilla, I am slightly anxious that 'Giant Dawn smooshes the bad guys [The End]' is going to be the resolution to too many of these arcs. MB x

Very... disappointed. Insubstatntial, as issues go; lots of plot wrapped up in bad comedy. I was never too enamoured with the idea of Drac' being back, and this has only confirmed my fears. Not to mention the fact that he was written completely differently to the way he was in the show. In addition, Buffy has a patchy enough history with race issues, and some of Dracula's jokes were in poor taste, and nowhere near funny enough to get away with it; yes, I understand that Bram Stoker's character can be interpreted as a metaphor for colonial anxieties, but I'm not sure that a Buffy comic is the right place to play them for humour. Elsewhere, I found the humour really lacking; Andrew's scene was really clumsily written, and the Willow/Satsu exchange was way out of character that - coupled with Jeanty's poor realisation of, well, the human form - it could have been someone else entirely.
I hate that they've made Antique canon, too.
The thing that frustrates me the most? I know I'm going to keep reading this. I'm finding it increasingly disappointing, with the odd bright spot here and there, but overall it's really soured me to the series. It's fair-to-middling fanfiction, at the most, and doesn't even begin to meet the legacy of the show.
But I want to see how it ends.

Interesting stuff! I love the regular cover. Nice likeness to Alyson Hannigan on the variant, though.
I like Drew Goddard a lot, he wrote a hell of a lot of stellar episodes, especially considering just how many episodes he wrote. I'm not sure how I feel about Dracula being back - quite how they're going to convey that toe-curling accent on paper is beyond - but I'm sure he'll pull it out of the bag. Looking forward to this one...
Who's the female figure in the background on the regular cover, do we know? Am I being dense?

'Lesbian chic' hype aside, I really enjoyed this issue. I think playing the encounter as a joke was a bold move, but Goddard got it right. Nice to see Andrew back in the Scoobie fold - particularly when he's making Superman jokes, and saying things like 'Hi, nude Asian girl' - and I hope we get to see more of him in this arc (veering off topic, though, how about we make our characters that are actually ascribed as gay sympathetic - rather than playing male homsexuality for laughs - before our heterosexual heroine starts jumping into bed with underaged girls?).
I like the Gothic Lolita vampires, too. Blue-haired vamp in a hat is my favourite.
I was glad to see they left the 'Antique'-is-canon-whut?! issue ambiguous, too.

Joss, PLEASE don't give the whiny little girl who own arc, PLEASE! This is irony, right? Because Dawn hasn't been whiny since the end of season six, and... not so much with the little anymore. I less-than-three her, though, even if she is a giant. They have to at least make a Cloverfield reference before they shrink her. MB x

I emailed Georges about Buffy's hair being up and when we'd be seeing it down, and he said that it's funny that I mentioned the hair because #12 sees Buffy with her hair down for most of it!!! Woo hoo! God, I love this fandom. Who's going to betray Buffy? What has Willow been up to for six months? And when is Buffy going to wear her hair down?! MB x

I think Andrew has really run his course as a comic character; yes, he's very funny, but they went some way to rounding him out in season seven, and then that fell by the wayside when the whole thing got bogged down in a plot that never really made all that much sense. I'd like to see him get an arc - or a one-shot, at least - of his own, just to explore who he is as a character before crowbarring him into a relationship...
