Does anyone else notice the distinct change in lighting, picture quality and camera work in the scene where Buffy talks to Xander about relationships while he fixes the window.
Can anyone shed any light as to why it changed so dramatically.

I've noticed that before as well, and I could never put any rhyme or reason to it. The only thing I can think of is that it's either: A) A random glitch, or B) A foreshadowing of how damned dark and sad the series is going to get in the immediate future; i.e. The Body.
Interesting note though.

It has the same kind of picture quality as some episode in season one. The camera work looks like it has been done by an amatuer. However in the final scene its back to the quality we have been used too since season 3.
I know the final act was actually filmed as part of the body but i have always been curious about this. Did they spend all the episode budget on the robot make up?

Hmmm...I don't have a clue in the world, unforch! That would make some sort of sense, I would say. I know that I've heard Joss say in commentaries that they pretty much saved a lot of the Season 5's budget to pay for the big ball of lightning that Buffy jumps into during The Gift. I'm not sure where we could find that information out, but it'd be darned cool if we could.
