No, methinks this is the first time we've ever heard of this. For shame, Scott Allie!

Fun times, I loves me some Tales. ;D
Hopefully this will help make sense of this ludicrous vampire storyline, although I doubt it.
I don't speak whatever language that is, but does "Carpe Noctem" mean "Seize the Night"? If so, that's a nice call back to "Welcome to the Hellmouth".

Nobody "speaks" it anymore - it's Latin. And yes, it does mean Seize the Night, it's a play on the original Latin idiom "carpe diem" - seize the day. Exciting. Always love me some ToTV, and any excuse to click over to MDHP is a good one.

Carpe Nocten is also the name of episode 4 in the third season of Angel. (I hope you imagined me saying that in Wesley's know-it-all Season-3-of-Buffy voice) *looking after the Wesley emoticon but failing*

Though I'm pretty impressed with my translation considering I didn't even know what language it was. I got the "seize the day" reference, it's Buffy's motto. I never noticed the connection with the Angel episode though... that's interesting, but kinda crappy that they're recycling titles within the Buffyverse.

Meh. It carries rather obvious connotations in the Buffyverse. And it was never used on Buffy, just Angel. *shrug*

Here's a good Whedon trivia question:
In addition to "Carpe Noctem," three other titles have been used twice for canonical Jossverse episodes. What are they?

Here's a good Whedon trivia question: In addition to "Carpe Noctem," three other titles have been used twice for canonical Jossverse episodes. What are they? hmm, does the episodes count for the title being used twice if they're split into two?...such as: Season2: Ep9: "What's My Line" part 1 Ep10:"What's My Line" part 2 Ep21: "Becoming" part 1 Ep22: "Becoming" part 2 Season3: Ep21: "Graduation Day" part 1 Ep22: "Graduation Day" part 2 Season6: Ep1: "Bargaining" part 1 Ep2: "Bargaining" part 2 Technically, those are listed as an episode each (with the same title) so If that's not what you meant...then I have no clue.

C'mon, A/C, end this suspense! Oh... I didn't know anyone was paying attention to this. I actually worded the question wrong... I meant to say there were three titles in total that were shared between episodes. Okay, the answers are: "CARPE NOCTEM" Angel season 3, episode 4 Buffy Tales of the Vampires webcomic "BELONGING" Angel season 2, episode 9 Dollhouse season 2, episode 4 "SAFE" Firefly season only, episode 5 Buffy season 8, issue 24

I'm afraid I don't know how to post links but if you look at 'Whedonesque' there's a link to the first few pages of this story. It looks great : )

Thanks for the heads-up. All pages are now on the original post, as clickable thumbnails. Enjoy.
ETA: Just read the pages. Interesting angle, taking the story to the vampires, and contrasting one who truly enjoys the new world order to one that loathes it. Harmony setting rules is hilarious... she was never a leader, more of the sheep variety. The fact that she's leading humans and vampires into this gloomy new world is an interesting reversal. The art is distinctly Paul Lee... knew it from the moment I saw the preview panels in the CBR article. Which is to say distinctive. Not special, but good enough. His style carries a slight grittiness to it (the line weights are a tad heavy for my taste) but it works here. Definitely will be checking out the later installments. I wasn't aware that this would be a continuing thing. As it is, 8 pages is pretty long for a MDHP piece.

From the very beginning of Buffy, we've seen that vampires are instinctive, reckless, often animalistic killers from the very moment they first rise from the grave.
Think we'll ever get an explanation for why they would all (or most of them) agree to stop killing because a blonde on a reality TV show tells them to?
I don't either.

From the very beginning of the show too, we've also seen that vampires can be very calculating and opportunistic. Harmony just provided them with acceptance, glamor, and an all-you-can-eat buffet. It's interesting, though, that as Cyn points out, it takes the fun out of eating. It's like saying here's an all-you-can-eat buffet that consists of only tofu and plant products, when all you're craving is a juicy steak (no offense meant to vegetarians and vegans... just drawing a parallel). Not all the vampires are probably heeding Harmony's "rules". Cyn just broke them. How it gets covered up... that's a different story altogether. Hollywood mafia making bodies disappear? ETA: CLICK to be directed to an interview/article with Jackie Kessler, the writer. And apparently this story will come in TWO parts.

But vampires are evil, not just hungry. They're not Edward Cullen. It's not just about feeding, it's about hurting and killing and seeing the fear in your meal's eyes. If Carpe Noctem ends with the revelation that there are a *lot* of vampires like Cyn, who want to go back to the way things used to be... and their numbers are growing, and Harmony's little charade is going to come crashing down soon... then I'd be more satisfied with this story element than I have been yet.

Perhaps that's where the story will head. Perhaps it'll be a clue as to where S8 is headed. It may very well be about the hurting and the killing, as Cyn points out in her own emo way, but the entire "vampires are just misunderstood friends, with sexy ridged foreheads" thing is evil, in that it allows them to be evil in public, and have that be accepted. Plus, you get to stick it to the Slayer (quite literally, probably). I don't fault S8 for not focusing on the construction of reality as we know it. Fact is, the Buffyverse has always required a giant suspension of belief, and in a medium where space is at even more of a premium, there's really no point in wasting pages. We didn't get an episode of parents and other Sunnydale residents dealing with the Big Giant Snake that was the mayor. Things like that get taken care of, off-screen. Here, they're showing one discontented vampire. If there's one, there's a thousand (and possibly more). The absolute number isn't as important as the acknowledgement that there are minorities. Just as there are minorities who don't believe that Slayers are social pariahs (i.e. Oz and Bay).
