Looks cool, just like the other 'Tales' one shot.

Harmony snaps her fingers and all vampires obey? Yeah sure. Don't you think it's time for things to make sense and come together? And seeing Olbermann talk about Buffy is just absurd to me and takes me out of the story. Can't help it. I'd rather they not use real people, it's distracting and annoying. The writing wasn't bad, it's just the idea that bothers me. I guess I'll never like the vamps are popular storyline.

Apparently, not all vampires are obeying. Cyn just broke at least a couple of Harmony's "rules". It establishes that there are some vampires who are more than happy to enjoy the ride, and others who are not quite as happy about the whole popularity thing. The Olberman reference is a throwback to #26, when Warren mentions him to Andrew. Was it distracting and annoying when they referenced real-life characters back in the day? Like Buffy asking Willow why she never crushed on anyone more current, like Seth Green. Incidentally, Willow was crushing on Matthew Broderick. Both Green and Broderick are real people.

wenxina, the difference is the famous real people aren't just being talked about, they are actually in the panels, and they are discussing Buffy and vampires. It's strange.
The pop culture references on Buffy the TV show were quick and not nearly as distracting, especially with a 44 minute episode not being eaten up by those references. In the comic, sometimes they are based around them entirely like Harmony on the Colbert show. It's just dumb. But to each their own.

I did like how Colbert was the only one who didn't seem to fall completely for Harmony's line of BS, though. Just like in real life.

It's a topical reference. We're so caught up with the Colbert Report, SNL, etc now that it's appropriately topical. But I agree, to each their own. It doesn't bother me at all. And Harmony on the Colbert Report was another MDHP thing. These shorts are rather short, so they rely quite heavily on topical references to give them any sort of weight. I happen to enjoy satire...

Just read the preview pages- it looks awesome I'd always wondered about this: what were the other vampires' reactions to Harmony going public? I remember that at the beginning of season 5 Spike was annoyed at Dracula for publicising details about vampirres so this storyline really fits

New interview with Jackie Kessler HERE. Apparently, Ash's deed will have consequences... and there'll be blood. Wonder if Daniel Day Lewis goes all method here... Please tell me someone got that reference...

Here we have the unusual case of someone who wrote a Buffyverse story that definitely is canonical, but claims it's not.

Ahhh! Finally, a vampire acting like a vampire. Now all we need is a slayer acting like slayer. I actually got enjoyment out of a vampire doing what's natural, instead of acting like all the other neutered vamps. Stupid Harmony.
Martyr or not, I say someone needs to introduce her to the woodshed.

I got the reference, Xi! Just read the preview - somehow missed it last week 'cause of the not having a computer lameness of my life.I really liked it! And I think this story shows that not all vampires are falling in line. Some are still being straight-up evil while vampires like Ash and Harmony are evil-lite. And LOL to A/C. Yeah it's funny that she doesn't want to call it canon. I rather like how she has in fact written a canon story and is just saying "hey it's just a story! I hope you enjoy it!" Nice.

Well, she got all squirmy when the word "canonical" was used... like "Oh god... that just makes it really big, and me really nervous. ACK!" I dunno... I agree it comes across as her denying that she wrote a canonical story, but I guess you could also take it as her being self-deprecating.

The thing these visiting writers don't seem to understand is they have no say over what is or isn't canon. Heh.

Slayer Lit interview with Kessler HERE. Nothing new, I don't think, but I only gave it a cursory scan.

Thank God somebody gets it! Yeah, but she's the writer, not a character. The mass majority of the people in the Buffyverse DON'T get it. I don't think any of the writers, and us (the readers) were ever under the illusion that vampires were NOT monsters.

Yeah, but she's the writer, not a character. The mass majority of the people in the Buffyverse DON'T get it. I don't think any of the writers, and us (the readers) were ever under the illusion that vampires were NOT monsters. Aside from Stephen Colbert's slight unease, however, this is the first time the cognitive dissonance of this situation has been addressed at all, as far as the general populace is concerned. We're seeing vampires finally saying "Wait a minute... what the hell are we doing?" Now if we could see something similar from the human side, I'd be far more satisfied with this still-troublesome plot element.

UGO has posted part two here (they call it a preview, but at 8 pages I think it's the whole thing).

Thanks for the catch. OP updated with clickable thumbnails which are a lot more wieldy than the UGO viewer.
