I agree Andrew, it's a really odd move. Hopefully for any future fans reading the trades, seeing Angel on the covers will make it less about a big reveal.
On the cover itself, I think the background could be seen as a lot of things, for me it's very evocative of an open grave.

Love this cover. It's gorgeous. Bus is it the cover in full, or just a part (a sneak peek). It doesn't look long enough... As for Buffy, yeah she looks to be in a trance, that,s the first thing I saw. But, looking closer, she seems to be enjoying it. If I had a dirty mind, I would say she seems in the throes of pleasure. He is about to stake her and she likes it. Talk about a role model: Buffy the Necrophiliac Masochist That also shows Scoot Allie is a filthy liar "I don,t think we'll see Angel again" Yeah, sure.

The TPB covers are meant to be about those proportions, unlike the full-page pieces of the regular covers.

It's the best tpb cover yet, hands down. Jo's talent is remarkable.
But I also think that the fact that they will put this cover on the tpb shows that Allie and Joss really don't care that much about the revelation itself. Of course it would be wrong and weird to reveal it early on, but even though it was a spoiler, it doesn't hurt to know, now, who Twilight is, 'cause it won't be long till we find out the big fat creepy WHY.
And I hope it won't hurt either for the ones waiting to read it on the trades, 'cause there's no "spoiler alert" in that case.

For people who keep up with the TPBs, nothing can really be done. Collecting single issues in TPB format is to make it easier to browse, without having to be fussy with multiple small books. Its function is not primarily to allow people who don't keep up with the singles to enjoy the full experience as the people who do buy singles... in the first, place, not having to wait between issues kinda robs one of them "true" experience anyway.

I can tell you from certain knowledge that a LOT of people follow season 8 exclusively in the trades. There's probably no other comic out there that has such a high proportion of readers who have never read comics before, and read no others. Many of them don't even know where their comic book shop is. You can see it in the sales charts... sales of Buffy TPB's have actually been increasing, even as sales of the monthly issues have been steadily declining. And those "no comics but Buffy" fans tend to be ones who don't frequent the sites where this spoiler would have been revealed.

While I totally agree with you, I would want to point out that, on the trade cover, Angel is NOT wearing Twilight costume. So someone who's never heard any spoiler might not understand that Angel is Twilight, just that Angel appears in the comics. Anyway, they did the same thing with Future Dark Willow in the TPB

Hi all, The wording Allie uses really bugs me "Twilight is Angel" shouldn't that be the other way around? Buffy is the Vampire Slayer- Buffy is claiming the title of being the slayer. I know what's been said about Twilight being Buffys love and former vampire boyfriend. Twilight is Angel makes me wonder if Angel's in control- Does this make sense? SIN

Love the cover. Makes me wish I bought the tpb instead of single issues, but oh well...

So this will collect Turbulence, Willow and Twilight parts 1-4/5? Could be a chunky book...

Will it collect Willow? Was that ever confirmed?

The Willow one-shot would eventually be collected in a trade, according to Allie in one of his Q&As. Unless that plan has changed. However, I don't think it was ever specified which trade it'll be collected in.

Not sure why I even asked, since I am just waiting for the Deluxe Editions anyway lol. I'm sure someone else was curious though.

I think he said Willow would be in the 7th volume (the "Twilight" collection.) It's the question he responded to with "Seven."
So that trade will have either 6 or 7 issues in it, depending on whether "Twilight" runs 4 or 5 issues.

Like the cover. Still kind ugh about who Twilight is. I hope it has a good story or else I will be even more disappointed. Joss has a way of working like this, at first some things seem ugh but then he makes the WOW. Don't let me down Joss Anyway, yep, like the cover

Yeah, Scott Allie said that hewanted to put it in TPB 6 (Retreat) but a "weird printing issue" forced him to put the Willow one-shot in TPB 7 (this one)

They both look really high, like it took them tones of weed to get where they are... Such a horrible cover. And I kinda love Bangel, actually :/

Wait...so ppl were saying before that the angel and buffy covers released before for one of the individual issues could be possibly fake to throw ppl off..so this leads me to ask,,,is this whole Angel being twilight thing legit? Is this really the cover for the tpb? How reliable is the source? cuz this can all be a hoax, unless its like its not really angel but someone in disguise...i dont know i just want to know is this whole Angel thing legit?

It's not a hoax. The covers (both the ones for #34 and the TPB) were released by CBR. CBR also covered the whole fiasco, with interviews with Scott Allie and Joss himself. If it's a hoax, Dark Horse will probably be reviled for a good long while, considering how much effort they've put into assuring readers that it isn't a hoax. The covers for #34 were released by mistake (the dummy covers got replaced by the actual covers). This one was released in the interview with Scott, I'm pretty sure. If you're interested in reading about it, CLICK HERE to be directed to the thread containing links to all the CBR coverage. Of course, there was also a story or two over at the MTV website, where Jo Chen's cover for #35 was released.
