"Titan Books have confirmed previously rumoured details of their upcoming title, Firefly: Still Flying featuring a nostalgic look back on the Firefly TV show and the Serenity movie spinoff.
But this will also include new Firefly prose short stories by original writers of the TV show, Jane Espenson, Brett Matthews and Jose Molina, and an illustrated story by Ben Edland, Fun With Dick And Jayne.
Other aspects of the book include;
Memories from the cast and crew, a tribute to the Browncoats, and even a feature on Nathan Fillion’s legendary practical jokes, Still Flying is illustrated throughout with a wealth of rare and previously unpublished images, including storyboards, production design art and candid behind-the-scenes photos – including an on-set shot of the last ever scene filmed for Firefly."Source.

Hey, about time they confirmed that. All the tweeting about it wasn't helping us contain our excitement. Titan Books... got it. *pops open his peepers to watch for a release*

Might this be the first novel based on a Joss show that could be considered canon? Seems like only writers from the show are contributing and that automatically makes it a buy for me.

I cannot wait for this. We need something in the Firefly verse that's new. ^.^ It's such a creative piece of art; It would be a shame to see it go to waste.

Publication date set for... sometime in April, I think? Or is it May? All the stories are in, at least. Should be exciting.

So excited. I'll take anything I can get to have more of the characters and 'verse. Just finished watching Firefly with a friend and the last episode never fails to piss me off because there's no more. Serenity makes up for a lot, but not enough.

Hmm... not quite what I was expecting. Thought it'd be a book that was full of just original stories. All the other content sounds cool though, so it's still a must buy.

Awesome, I had no idea we'd be getting a bunch of extras along with the new stories. I can't wait.

Alright, I've read a lot of the production stuff and now all of the stories. The production stuff is neat, collections of quotes from various interviews over the past 8 years or so about the show, a lot of cool stories (including the legend of Monkey Shines... dastardly Nathan Fillion strikes again!), some great photos as well (Morena Baccarin is just stunning). I'll put my impressions of the stories in these here spoiler tags as I read them. What Holds Us Down by Jane Espenson I want to marry this story. It's a Kaylee story; she and Wash are on an older-class Firefly, Wash is bleeding to death and Kaylee's just trynna get the damn thing running so they can get back to Serenity. It's a really touching story; as Wash fades in and out of consciousness, she asks him why Zoe loves him. It's a really interesting perspective into their dynamic together, and it's punctuated by the tenseness of the situation they're in (they must have been in some kind of shootout, 'cause both of them got shot and the "Bad Guys" as Kaylee calls 'em are still looking for them). Jane nailed this one, a really nice piece of prose fiction and a great Firefly story overall. Fun With Dick And Jayne by Ben Edlund The dork. It's a two-page story, set up like a children's book - simple sentences, and illustrations which he drew himself. There isn't a whole lot of a plot to discern, but it appears to be a moment from Jayne's childhood. Kinda cute. Crystal by Brett Matthews This one's SO fun. Takes place pre-Serenity, it's a day in the life of the addled brain of River Tam. She wanders about the ship, relaying her visions to each character. Most notably, she tells Book he's going to die, and she gets very weepy and hugs Wash without a single word. It's a very psychological piece. Loved it. Take the Sky by Jose Molina Kind of a depressing, end-of-the-road story about Mal, 70 years old and looking back on his life. On first read, I didn't like it too much, but mostly because I feel that other characters should get spotlights more often than Mal. It was still very enjoyable, though, and I liked the ending. There's an entire section devoted to the fandom. It's amazing. <3
