how long is it that BTVS season 8 takes place after Angel;ATF? I estimated around a year and a half? That gives IDW plenty of time to legitimise their stories if they wanted to fit them into canon It was originally said to be a year and a half after "Chosen"... but there was a whole season of Angel after that, so AtF would have taken place a few months to a year before the start of season 8.

does anybody know if there have been any talks on moving angel from IDW to dark horse? i'm not big on the legal issues involved, but i think joss could manage the continuity better if all his characters were playing in the same sand box.

No such word has surfaced, no. IDW does have a pretty long-term plan for the franchise... pretty sure that Willingham's signed on for quite a while, and according to Chris Ryall (the editor of the ANGEL books), Willingham's meticulous in that he has his whole story kinda mapped out.

Also it backs up my feelings that if Angel was at Dark Horse there would have been no 'Season 6' or After the Fall, because Joss would have been saving Angel for Twilight.Which is another of the (many) reasons why I am glad Angel is at IDW, because no matter what happens in Buffy, we are still going to get stories told in the Angelverse, with the Fang Gang. Where he belongs:) I think that this is a fair enough inference also taking into account how busy Joss has been recently. I'm not sure that we would have had Angelverse stories if Dark Horse had kept the licence.

Well, let's remember that Scott said that while plotting After the Fall, Joss already knew that Angel was Twilight. So, I bet my two cents that in the future we'll be able to see in AtF the beginning of the Twangel. Probably something about that future vision of the shanshu, the pile of bones and stuff.

In any case, IDW isn't going to be able to plot out the next 100 years of Angel's story without either running into or bypassing Joss's canon continuity at some point. That's the way it goes when you're a licensee and not the licensor. It's somebody else's sandbox they're playing in.

How did DH lose the rights for Angel? The rights expired after both shows were off the air. Joss revived the Buffy license with Dark Horse, but by the time the idea came to do After the Fall, the Dark Horse Angel license was gone and IDW snatched it up. So Joss and Brian did Angel: After the Fall at IDW and it just went from there.

Speaking only for myself, but I think it is nonsense to think that readers of IDW's Angelverse will not be effected by the Angel/Twilight crossover. How can the readers not think about Twilight as Angel now when they read the new Willingham cycle? Now with all this speculation about Spike being used in the Buffy Comic Seasons - what will all this do to the confidence of readers regarding the IDW story lines?
And while I love Joss Whedon and both the comic season - all that stuff about No Crossovers and Business Arrangements keeping the comic seasons separate, I believed all that and how I interpreted Buffy Season Eight was influenced by those comments. And I have to say that I am very disappointed in how all this came down -

And I have to say that I am very disappointed in how all this came down - Actually in the interviews given before season8 started, Joss made it clear that he would use Spike and Angel and could do so whenever he wanted to. But since it was over 3 years ago, people have started to forget about it. I personally hope that Spike will remain on Buffy, even tough i know the chances of that are slim. I just don't like what idw has been doing with Spike, which is nothing. Atleast on Buffy Joss would continue to evolve, change the character, for better or worse.

I see that Dark Horse has a new banner ad out that says "TWILIGHT: You only know half the story."
I'm trying to decide if that means "You may know who he is, but you don't know why he is," or if it means "you've only seen Buffy's side of the story... tune in and see Twilight explain why the Slayers are getting what they deserve!"
I'm hoping for option #1.

Well we'll see in a few months. I'm far enough in that I'll stick around to see if it works out, and that I care if it does. For all its flaws, there's things I wouldn't want to throw away.

Scott Allie interview with iFanboy. The vast majority of it is about Solomon Kane and Hellboy, but there's a bit at the tail end (48 minutes in) about Buffy - handling the reveal of Twilight as well as what's in store for season 9. He sounds very enthusiastic about the direction Season Eight is going, and continues as always to emphasize that having Twilight's identity does not change the power of the story coming up. There's a download link as well as an embedded player so you can listen to the whole thing - it's nearly an hour long. ETA: Forgot to mention, it's spoiler-free!

I don't have time to listen this evening... could you give a quick recap of what he says about season 9?

I don't have time to listen this evening... could you give a quick recap of what he says about season 9? I listened to it in pieces over the course of today (too many classes on Thursday, couldn't stop to listen all at once) but he doesn't say anything much about S9 other than "it'll be way shorter". Which is what we already knew. Sorry, I know maybe you were expecting more, Andrew, but the majority of the show was about Hellboy and Solomon Kane, so much so that the discussion of Buffy came about almost as an afterthought and they didn't really go into depth in terms of story about what was going to be happening. I thought it might be worth adding to the pile of discussions surrounding Twilightgate though.

does anybody think that joss would ever go for a separation of the buffyverse characters into two non-linked universes (buffyverse and angelverse)? imho, i think that the buffy canon is all that's truly mattered, but in the age of licensing characters through the medium of print, i'm starting to think that the two titles should go their own ways if they can't come together. let them share a common past in the television series, as well as any crossovers in the comics (twilight), resolve any final character jumps (spike back in with buffy?), and give angel his own universe.

In the new Jeanty Q&A... anyone notice he used the phrase "brought into the fold" to describe Angel later this season?
I wonder if that means brought into the fold as an open character, or brought into the Scoobie fold?

There was something that Scott said in an interview, sadly I don't remember which one, about how he wouldn't want the fans to know anything that's going on "behind the curtain". I understand this completely. Knowing all this drama ruins the actual reason we're reading the books. Which I would think is to follow our favorite characters and see what happens next. As fans I think we forget that we don't own this universe (Buffy), we watch it.
As dramatic and entertaining as Bill was in his little "this is MY story" outburst about Angel continuity, I could really care less. His Angel plot has zero to do with Season 8. I'm not a fan of the IDW run at all. And as mentioned before the DH crew has every intension to use Angel and Spike in future Buffy stories. So B.W. is gonna have to take a nap. Oh and on the topic of Angel does anyone else think that talking fish is the dumbest thing ever?

In the new Jeanty Q&A... anyone notice he used the phrase "brought into the fold" to describe Angel later this season? I wonder if that means brought into the fold as an open character, or brought into the Scoobie fold? This reminds me about a comment that said that the ending of Season 8 was about bringing back ALL the Scoobies together. If I was betting on this...it suggest to me Angel is being brought in to Buffy's fold. How this would be worked out with IDW remains to be seen. But even if this is true...it does bring up a question: who are the core Scoobies?
