I have a truly bizarre question regarding the comics, and I may not have put it in the correct spot, so please move it if I'm wrong.
I have a friend who started watching Buffy the same time I did, and I've been sharing my comics with him like a good person, but he refuses to enjoy them simply because they are comics and not TV shows. He has to find fault in every little detail, and this is his latest complaint: in issue 8, after Faith and Buffy fall out the castle window into the swimming pool, the broken glass from the window appears to be floating on the surface of the water.
So, I ask you: does glass float?
I said, that yes, a flat piece of glass (like a fragment from a broken window), if it has enough surface area, will float. My friend insists that a flat piece of glass is too dense ever to float. I want to settle the argument, so, of course, I'm going to the Internet (Jeeves had nothing to say on the matter.)
Sorry to waste your valuable time.

I don't think it does...If a large enough piece landed flat on the water it might for a second but not very long and as soon as one edge went under the whole thing would go under quickly. I also noticed this...I just didn't obsess over it. I think your friend either needs to accept them as comics or stop reading them. Maybe tell him that he can't read the next issue. If he insists then tell him to enjoy the story and to stop nit picking every little detail.

If he was a TRUE fan then I think he should be able to enjoy any kind of media the Scobbies come to us in. I think that he is just being difficult and thinks that his dislike of the comic format will change the world which we all know will not. No offense to you or your friend. I just call them as I see them.

Well...maybe. Some of the smaller pieces of glass probably fell to the bottom of the pool and the larger pieces stayed afloat for a while, maybe because Buffy and Faith kept moving the water around by fighting?

I know how you feel. I've been trying to get my friend into Buffy/Angel for a long time and she still says she hates it, even though she just finished Season 5 of Buffy and Season 2 of Angel, hmmm.... Anyways, she complains about EVERY little thing. Like a few weeks ago we watched Checkpoint, and she said it was the dumbest episode because Anya said she COOKED muffins. Or Judgement was stupid because Faith wasn't wearing an orange outfit while in jail. And meanwhile she still thinks The Hills is real.
People. What's with them?

Wow... that IS really picky. Even my buddy isn't that critical. He will unquestioningly watch ANYTHING on TV, he just complains about comics. At least he doesn't think reality TV is real.

I didn't even notice the glass. Maybe I'm not picky enough? Now I'm worried.

Well, I'd like to think that this is an old, old estate with old, old glass that has enough bubbles and stuff to make it float.

lol that's funny. It would float.. and that's a really lame thing to point out! I could think of loads of other things, heh. I've been getting my boyfriend to read the comics so I have someone else I know who can talk about it, but he wouldn't read them if I didn't make him He's just still bitter that Angel was cancelled.

A friend of mine pointed out that Faith was sharing Gigi's make-up, yet Gigi's mascara was running and Faith was all dry eyed. It made me laugh.
I don't think it's fair to tell people they need to get a life for picking up on minor details; I'm sure it's not the little things that are impairing peoples' enjoyment of the comics, rather than some people just not being into comics as a medium.

It's harsh and hypocritical to tell people to get a life, when you're saying so via a messege board for a comic book continuation of a cult television program that ended five years ago; in my opinion.
... lol

I will pick up all the little things in everything I watch or read or whatever except Buffy. I never notice those annoying little things when I watch Buffy or Angel. I care too much about the story and the characters I think. Not that picky people don't care or something. I just get way into the story.
As for the comics - my best friend has been a Buffy fan for 10 years just like me and she won't read them. She makes me tell her what happened instead. So, some people just can't dig the medium. I admit that I would love to have the stories in a live action format, but if it's canon I am going to read the comics anyway.
Oh and glass doesn't float. ;D

I was very much the same as that friend of yours, but my parents moaned that my xmas list was too boring and short so I added the TPB to it. I thought I'd hate it, but I knew that at very least I'd like the cover lol. Still not sure what I think if I'm honest. It has just enough Joss-ness to keep me reading but we'll see where the story goes I suppose. I'm not a fan of how seperated the characters are at the moment though.

It's not really that Matt doesn't like comics, he reads a lot of my Marvel and DC comics and he likes those fine, he just has a specific problem with Buffy as a comic. His loss, I guess. More Buffy for me.

Lives are for squares and people with too much money. I'm very happy with comic books and Friday Night Magic, thank you.

It doesn't float. It's denser than water. Yay Buffy :-)
