This is a thread for to discuss jobs or careers. You can also discuss your schooling for a certain career or even ask for advice if you're unsure about what you want to be. I thought it would be fun to start this to see what everyone does for a living and their ambitions in life.

What's your current job or career?
Well, I babysit for my church, which pays well for the amount of work I do, but I'm thinking of applying somewhere else.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)
Well, it's really awesome when nobody leaves any kids with us, because then we can leave after half an hour. Otherwise, it depends on the kid. Some are really awesome, and fun, and quiet, while others are total brats.

Did it require any training or schooling?
Nope. Probably it would have been beneficial to have gotten some kind of first aid training, but I didn't.

What do you want to be?
Nothing having to do with kids.

Why?
Well, one or two is hard enough to handle, and most jobs would probably sit you with at least 10. Which I wouldn't be able to do.

What did you want to be when you were little?
An artist. Or a knight. Both were a bit unrealistic, but I think I may be minoring or doing a double major in art, so that's something at least.

Do you remember why?
I wanted to be an artist because I loved coloring. Still do.
I wanted to be a knight because my favorite books ever were about lady knights. They were by Tamora Pierce, and I read them so many times I probably could have recited them line for line.

I didn't want to gunk up the first post with my answers, so here they are now.


What's your current job or career?
Currently unemployed and always have been.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)
Being unemployed > how I imagine having a job.

Did it require any training or schooling?
N / A.

What do you want to be?
I'm not sure. Something creative probably. Maybe a video game writer or designer or a novel writer.

Why?
Sometimes I get ideas floating around in my head, but don't really have a way to get them out.

What did you want to be when you were little?
When I was very little, I always wanted to be an astronaut. When I got slightly older I wanted to be a lawyer and a writer.

Do you remember why?
I was always fascinated by space. I still am. As for being a writer, I've already explained. I wanted to be a lawyer because my parents and siblings often told me I'd be good at that because I always argued with them so much. I still do and still somewhat like the idea of being a lawyer, but not as much as the other careers I mentioned.

What's your current job or career?
I work at Golden Corral as a line person and am training Tuesday to be a server.
I am working on a business degree so that I can one day have a business of my own.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)
I find the courses I'm taking much more interesting than I thought I would. I thought it was just going to be drudgery that would allow me to do something I wanted to do.
I like working with the public but the workplace environment drives me crazy. lol I need to be the boss.

Did it require any training or schooling?
Not at the level I'm at now. I have had some management training and I am going to school to get a degree.

What do you want to be?
A business owner.

Why?
I like providing a service, I'm a good manager, and I want to be the boss.

What did you want to be when you were little?
I wanted to be a teacher, then a zooologist, then a psychologist.

Do you remember why?
I would still like to be a teacher and a psychologist but I think my talents are better suited to what I'm pursuing.

What's your current job or career?
Unemployed, unfortunately. I'm DEFINITELY going to get a job this summer, though.

Eh, boring, I wish I had something useful to occupy my time with (besides school, of course, but that's a have-to). Money would be nice too.

What do you want to be?
A doctor! I'm not quite sure what specialty yet, I'll figure that out when I get to med school. Though currently, I'm leaning towards psychiatry, neurology, or some form of surgery. I like brains...

Why?
Chicks, money, power, and chicks.

But really, I've always had a genuine interest in the workings of the human body. And I want to help people, lolololzers. Textbook answers for the win!

What did you want to be when you were little?
A doctor. I'm so lame.

Do you remember why?
I used to read anatomy books and perform extensive examinations on my stuffed animals. I don't think I was a normal child.

Nothing, really. I'm only 16 though. But I sometimes do graphic design.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)
Fun, mostly. Not too great when people don't like the stuff I design.

Did it require any training or schooling?
Just playing with photoshop.

What do you want to be?
Dog trainer. I dunno. Something to do with dogs. or Psychology. Psychology is cool.

Why?
Cause I love dogs, adn I think Psychology is fascinating.

What did you want to be when you were little?
a Vet

Cause it had something to do with dogs. At the time I didn't realize that being a vet would involve puting dogs down...

What's your current job or career?
I work as a package handler, Comprehensive Health & Safety Process(CHSP) member and Quality trainer at UPS.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)
Right now since I have good seniority it's really good for me. And during these times it's really nice to feel secure with a job. Plus they pay for my College

Did it require any training or schooling?
I actually started working there through a School to Work program when I was in high school.

What do you want to be?
I still honestly have no clue, but I major I History cause I know that's the one thing I like doing for sure. Learning about the past.

Why?
I just love learning about where I came from and how we all came to be. And I love trying to decide what real, maybe real or not.

What did you want to be when you were little?
Oh I wanted to be many things. I was somewhat of a tomboy at first so I wanted to be in the WNBA. I used to draw all the time so I wanted to be a artist. I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to be in the music business. The list goes on.

Do you remember why?
All I can say is that I was just really in to all those things when I was younger. I was really into basketball all the up until high school, which is when I got real shy. Perfect timing right. That was sarcasm by the way? I don't make that much art anymore except here, but I still write, listen and mix all type of music. I wanted to be a nurse cause my mom was one and a teacher just cause I just love learning.

It's fail; getting money from parents once a month grows tiring.

Probably producing tv shows or writing movies/tv shows.

Why?
Producer because I like the idea of feeling involved on how a show turns out. Writer because I have so many ideas and I want to turn at least one of them in a movie/tv show

A police officer.

What's your current job or career?
Nothing. I left school last year, but I was too late in deciding I wasn't going to stay on for 6th year (my guidance teacher basically told me to gtfo), so I was too late in applying for college. I've been looking for a job since but there's absolutely nothing. I do some volunteer work at the animal shelter and I'm going to college in September so whatevs.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)
I only go in twice a week for about 3-4 hours cos they have quite a few volunteers. The doing nothing at home part is kind of fun, except it would be nice to get some work experience if only there was somewhere that would hire me.

What do you want to be?
Something to do with animal care. A zoo keeper would be so awesome. I might go into veterinary medicine later on in life, but I dunno. Depends how I feel at the time.

Why?
I actually enjoy it.

What did you want to be when you were little?
I don't think I ever thought about it actually.

What's your current job or career?
At school, studying UK A-levels and work 8am to 6pm at a Fruit and Veg store at Weekends

School is awesome! I've picked the 4 subjects I'm doing- Chemistry English History and French- so love them all and really feel I'm working towards something. My shop however is open-fronted so I've been freezing all winter

Did it require any training or schooling?
Umm . . . well you had to do the GCSEs and get As in them to do them at my school

What do you want to be?
A lawyer (barrister probably if I succeed)

Why?
I want to wear a white powedery wig

What did you want to be when you were little?
1) A Princess
2) A sea-port inspector (random I know)

Do you remember why?
1) They wore pretty dresses and didn't have to clean their rooms. I actually had a phase where I wouldn't answer to anything except "Sleeping Beauty"- my playgroup leader was very distressed!
2) They got to go to the seaside a lot and had power over others mwahahaha

What's your current job or career? I am a house wife. I drive my disabled vet husband around.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?) It is boring. But it beats having a job. I have a phobia that prohibits me from having a job.

Did it require any training or schooling? Nope, Just have to do the best you can.

What do you want to be? An author.

Why? I have always loved to write.

What did you want to be when you were little? I didn't give it much thought, I lived in the present and didn't think about the future.

Do you remember why?

Cause I figured Future Miss. Rogueh would figure out what do to.

What's your current job or career?

I currently work at a University as an administrator. I deal with student appeals (against grades/exam board decisions etc) and academic misconduct (cheating in exams, copying etc). I have been in this job for 8 months, but have been working at the University for 3 and a half years (I started as an administrator for postgraduate professional ethics courses).

My background is in law though. I have a law degree and postgraduate diploma in legal practice, but couldn't get a training contract as a lawyer (too competitive) and had to pay the bills some how so got into admin.

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)

It's okay. Some days are really interesting, some really slow and boring. I work normal full-time hours, no weekends. It is a great place to work and they really look after their staff, and also a great opportunity for me career enhancement wise, but not something I want to do forever.

Did it require any training or schooling?

I needed to have a degree, but it didn't matter that it was in law. I do think that my legal background helps in some of the work I do though.

What do you want to be?

A slayer I have always wanted to be an author or work with horses.

Why?

I love writing and always have done. I had two poems published when I was younger, and am currently writing a book. I love horses and have been horse riding since I could walk, hence the working with horses.

What did you want to be when you were little?

An author or world class riding champion

What's your current job or career?
I don't have a job, but I'm a media arts major and in about two weeks I'll have a bachelor's degree in science. So I'll be looking for a job in animation/illustration. Anyone need a Flash animator/illustrator?

How's that going for you? (Is it fun / exciting? Is it boring? Work long hours?)
We'll see when I get a job. I'm actually really sick of it, but that's the only thing I'm trained to do, so...

Did it require any training or schooling?
3 and a half hardcore 12-hour-school-day-only-2-hours-of-sleep years of college.

What do you want to be?
I want to be a novelist, actually. But I can't make a living that way.

Why?
I love writing fiction, and it's the one thing I can do all day and never get tired of (along with singing, but I'm not the best performer).

What did you want to be when you were little?
A marinebiologist. Kinda weird for a kid, but I did. As I got older, I realized you need to like math to do that professionally. So I said "Screw it I'm gonna do art for the rest of my life. I'll never get tired of it!" Yeah, that was a mistake, but c'est la vie.

Do you remember why?
Because I love marine animals and I still do. I'm still a marine biology enthusiast.
