There's a scene, just before they all go into battle, where Buffy comes down into the basement, and she and Spike look at each other, before it fades into the next scene. Who thinks they had sex and who thinks they didn't?
I never thought they slept together, mainly because I don't think Buffy could be sexual with him again after the attempted rape. Plus, their relationship had gone to a whole new level in Season 7, to the point where neither of them needed the sex the way they did in Season 6.
I remember reading somewhere that Joss Whedon had said he never intended fans to think they had sex, but as with all things in the Buffyverse, everything is open to interpretation.

Well, if he never intended fans to think they had sex, why film that scene? Me, personally, like to think that they did and wouldn't call it sex, but more along the lines of making love after the progression they had in season 7. But then again, it would probably be revealed that they just simply cuddled that night

That's a scene that bugs me cause I really can't even imagine what they did. When I try to think about it, it just doesn't work. I understood that he wanted the fans to fill in the blank to give something back to us, but I would have rather had his visual. They wouldn't have had to have sex. A little kissy here or there would have fine.

Well, I know that Joss said on the Chosen commentary that he wanted whatever the audience wanted to happen to have happened; be that whether they fought, cuddled, made love, etc. So, since he decided to leave it up to audience interpretation, I personally like to believe that they did have sex on that last night. And I know some of you are thinking, "what? How could she after what was done to her in season 6?" My answer to this is that it would have been more than just sex, and so much more than either of them had ever experienced before. By this point their relationship really had come full circle, so I think it only fitting that they made that connection.

I have often tried to fill in the blank and nothing seems quite perfect to me. However that's a reason I quite like that we get to fill in the blank, if we didn't then people would just be picking apart what did happen, especially if it was something major like them having sex. I at least always include something intimate like kissing or 'making love' just because they had finally gotten to the place of intimacy, but it was romantic, so I imagine that some romantic intimacy took place further than it had the previous two nights, but that's just me.

I think at that point, it wasn't even about sex anymore. They could've been playing scrabble and it still would've been something intimate and beautiful and just something they'd share. So I don't think they had sex... probably just kissing (and scrabble). I'm filling in my blanks.

Or perhaps cuddling up on the bed, sharing a few kisses and discussing the next day, possibly what they would do if they survived

I always assumed they didn't. After that last conversation, it would've been anticlimactic.

I always assumed they didn't as well. I appreciate Joss leaving it ambiguous -- that seems to have been the best solution.

I figure both of them would've been too nervous to have sex, given what they were looking forward to. I'll have to go back and watch, but I seem to remember that we caught a glimpse of them in the morning, and it looked as if both of them fell asleep with all their clothes on and never got under the covers. That's what I would expect, in that emotional situation.

I don't think they had sex I think they just held each other. I like that better.

My view? They started playing naked twister, but Spike couldn't get it up at it quickly became uncomfortable.
