Willing to bet that most comic book artists don't have to draw shimmering telepathic fish most of the time. That panel reminds me of X-Men, when some artists use a real cat as a photo reference for Beast. It looks weird, because there's no human emotions. That artist clearly referenced a real fish to draw George, but it looks... soulless?

It's not human, and even putting human features on it isn't going to make it look like it's an honest-to-goodness character, even if we know it is. Well, we'll see how it pans out in the full issue I guess.

The more I think about this, the more I get excited that we're focusing on Connor. 'Cause Connor rocks hardcore.

It's just when they go the photorealistic route he starts to look silly. Like the AtF #6 and 7 spread cover.

Yay dez and james! I dont really care if they carry any specific part of aftermath on into crown prince syndrome but as long as they acknowledge it in some respect i'm happy. It would be stupid of IDW to ignore aftermath in further continuity just because us fans didnt like it. I hope that image proves they didnt.

The art is a major improvement from "Aftermath", I'll give it that. However, I find it all too generic, and more than a little forgettable. There is no personal style, no quirk, no trademark at all... none that I can see anyway. Likenesses are fine, and everything looks competent... but it doesn't do anything for me. Also... I'm on the fence about whether or not I'm going to continue with the ANGEL franchise. I gave up on "Aftermath", bought the Epilogue issue, and the first Dru one. Still need to go pick up the second Dru book, but I think I'll wait till Oct 7, when I go pick up S8 #29... I'm happy enough to being where "AtF" #17 left us... About the same for me. I'm thinking I'll pick up the rest of the Lynch issues and call it a day. If this arc turns out to be awesome, I might pick up the collected. Think I'm gonna do the same for Only Human as well. As horrible as it sounds, I quite like being done with "Angel" as a title. I'm more interested in the side stories now, like Blood and Trenches.

I've the feeling that it's a Connor flashback monologue thingy. First Quar Toth and his time as a normal boy and after that the characters in the teams he knows them best. Spike and Illyria are no longer a team, nor are Gunn and George. But it's how Connor knows them best; he met Spike when Spike was teamed with Illyria. Gunn was teamed with George and Kate joined the team in the time they met Dez and James. And the Hyperion was his home again for a while in hell. If you look at the panels, its clearly not scenes but more a photo with people Connor met.
I still have the feeling that Kate, Gunn, Illyria and Connor will be the team for this arc with Angel being somewhere else and maybe James, Dez, Gwen, Nina,Lorne and Spike showing up at times but not being all over the story.
I do hope that Connor wants to return to the Hyperion, the team belongs there.

Yeah, BAF just pointed that out to me on BF. Strange it really felt like that after seeing the characters who are chosen to be together in one panel. I'm suprised that they kept Dez, James and George but kind of 'dumped' Lorne and Gwen. I guess that Ats needed some fresh characters and especially Dez and James have potential to be very interesting.

I find it odd that no one said anything about the fact that conner is fighting the monsters from the Quar Toth flash back in a modern day ally way
*prays for karma lol*

New covers and 5 finished preview pages of #28! Courtesy of RYALL'S BLOG. Both new covers rock, especially Angel and Spike reigning in 2010 (I guess it is a second cover by Jenny Frison? Looks like her style). This is also our first taste of Willingham's writing, which seems off to a good start. Bunch of stuff we already knew, but I love how Holtz used rhyme's to teach young Connor what to do when there are certain demons around. That's clever as hell. The text is a bit hard to read (hate the way Ryall distributes preview pages), but it's manageable. Still loving Denham's art, his Connor is perfect, and the coloring is spectacular. Post- Aftermath skepticism is pretty much all gone by now. I can't wait.

Both those covers rock. I'll definitely be getting Messina's, one of the best covers yet! The 2010 one is hilarious! Pretty good preview too, great art (especially the demon being beheaded), and Connor's thoughts were cool and pretty in-character. Some of the quips were cringe-worthy though, but still, looking good.

I still want to jump Messina's bones. I'm so in love with his artwork, and he always has the greatest colorists working with him too. I think I'll hold off on reading the text until the book is out. Of course, my patience may be worn a bit because I haven't received Buffy #29 or Angel #26 yet... (Speaking of Messina, Angel: Only Human #3 is out next week. Year of the Messina, IMO. )

What I don't get is how Denham captures perfectly Connor's build (slender but certainly not feminine) but can't help but give him the stomach of a bodybuilder. A real turn off to me, Connor never looked like that, and I'm not even sure if it's possible. Me sad. What is it with comic artists and the unrealistic bodies. All the other things look really good. Although a big part of the text was not readable for me.
