So, about seven months ago my boyfriend got a new job in this tiny-ass country town and we packed up and moved from my beautiful home-city to live in Sticksville for a year. And I miss my friends. And my family.
I was used to seeing my family every week and now I see them only once every couple of months. I miss all my old friends, especially my bestie who I used to catch up with at least once a week.
Plus I miss my city, with it's four mega-malls, gorgeous civic area, five movie complexes and millions of stores. I miss the noise, everything here is so quiet! I miss the people, my old city had a pop. of 350, 000. Just the right size. This town has a pop. of 7500.
Anyhoo, that's my little whinge for today. Just feeling a bit down and sad. Anyone else recently move from home?

Ahh... I moved away from my Alaskan hometown of 16 years about 9 months ago, so I feel your pain It's funny, though, we seem to be the opposite in surrounding preferences; my old town was nice and rugged and full of forests and mountains and rivers, and the one I'm in now is a bit more industrialized. I miss it so bad, on some days the homesickness is almost crippling, but I'm slowly settling into this new place. Hopefully you will too, sooner or later!!

I miss it so bad, on some days the homesickness is almost crippling Oh, I hear you there! I was a total wreck the first couple of months I was here. Slowly getting better, but I don't think I'll ever stop missing home. I never intending to move away from my home-city, I tend to bond for life to things.

Moving is a bummer. I moved to a small village in the countryside, from a big industrial town. I left my hometown 4 years ago, where I lived for nearly 15 years. I only had a few hours notice before we moved, so I never got to say goodbye to anyone because I was avoiding doing that. It's sad because I really miss my old friends sometimes and we haven't spoken in so long, just occasional short messages on facebook.
I used to think I'd move back to my hometown when I got older, but honestly, I don't want to do that anymore. I consider where I live now to be my home, and I actually really love it. It took me a while, but I've finally gotten over my hometown. There's nothing to move back there for anyway, since the majority of my family live here or live just 40 miles away, and all my friends are at my new home now.
So in my experience, moving is horrible for atleast the first year, but you learn to move on.
Are you moving back to your city when your boyfriend's finished with the job?

Sorry to hear that. I hope the transition gets easier for you soon.
I moved in September, but I didn't get homesick. My hometown was rubbish, and I don't like my family, but that's a whole other issue lol

Are you moving back to your city when your boyfriend's finished with the job? Oh yeah, definitely. I'm counting down the days, hours, minutes. I must sound a bit whingey and ridiculous, but like I said before, I tend to bond to things, people, places very deeply. I lived in my home-city for twenty-three years, never moved out of the city, I love my home city so much and I just really miss everything about it. Plus, I haven't really made any new friends (I have a bit of a hard time making new friends, I have some trust issues, but that's a whole other story) so I feel very secluded and cut off here.

23 years is a long time, so I totally understand your sentiment, and I don't think in 7 months is enough time to properly adjust anyway when all your loved ones are far away. Hope it gets better.

I understand how you feel AngelFaith, and really hope you feel more settled and happier soon. I moved away from my home town 11 years ago and miss it every single day. I moved to one city for four years which I hated, and then moved to another city (to a better University) and have been here ever since, and hate it here too. I hate the area and the people and everything about it. I made some really good friends who I love dearly, but they have all started moving away. I have some friends here still but not many. I have a good job which is one positive, and a wonderful boyfriend who takes care of me, if I didn't have those things I think I would have gone completely mad by now My parents, sister and niece and nephew still live in my hometown and I miss it all so much. I came from a small tourist resort right on the beach, full of sea and sand and mountains and wildlife. I could walk home from the pub at 1am alone and feel perfectly safe. I feel unsafe walking to the bus in the morning for work where I am stuck now. I can't go anywhere on my own at night, and when I do go out without my boyfriend, everyone has to be escorted home by someone else as it is so dangerous to be out alone. I keep planning to move back home but it is so difficult to get a job for both me and my bf, and somewhere to live. One day i will make it though

Moving is no easy deal no matter where it is. I remember when we moved from the east of England to the Orkney isles Scotland. It took two days for us to get there. For a long time we missed our families and friends. sadly, some we will never see again because we've been here now 20 years, and from time to time we still get a littlle home sick. But on the good side, it was one of the best things we've ever done together in our lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
