Maybe some of you heard about the flood that hit the Middle Tennessee area about a week and a half ago? Yes? No? Maybe? Well . . . as a result, some of my collection was lost. A very sad day for me. (But I guess I'm lucky compared to what a lot of people lost) So, I figured, I couldn't be the only one who had ever lost or had figures damaged by some freak accident of some sort. So, what I want to know is this . . .
Have you ever lost part of your collection to unusual (or maybe not so unusual) circumstances? And if so, how did it happen?
Mine was flooding. Maybe yours was Fluffy, the neighbor's dog.

Oh Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear this. I hadn't heard about the flooding but am glad to hear you are okay, even if some of your collection sadly isn't Did you lose much? Have you got insurance? Two of my Buffy figures got broken when I moved house. I had packed them all tightly and safely in boxes, but when my boyfriend put one of the boxes down in the new house, he put it sideways and it opened and two figures got broken. Wesley lost his head, and my custom prophecy girl Buffy lost an arm. They are fixable but I haven't got round to fixing them yet. The lighter also snapped off my essence of Spike when I was trying to put him back in his box for the move. My friend superglued it back on an sat holding it still for about an hour to make sure it set, then my mom carried it on her lap in the car to the new house (not in the box!) and put it straight on the mantlepiece!! It hasn't been moved since and I am super careful when dusting it!!

i had an entire teenage mutant ninja turtle card collection that fell victim to the floods of iowa back in 1993 or 1994. i was devistated. they were from the cartoon series too.
sorry for your loss. best luck in re-creating your original stash!

Unfortunately, we didn't have flood insurance. Most people who were affected here didn't because most of us technically weren't in flood zones (places that had never flooded before), so we weren't required or encouraged to get it. I haven't really been able to (or bring myself to) do a full inventory. Sadly, other things have had to take top priority (carpet, insulation, dry wall, furniture, etc.) That, and it just makes me sad everytime I try to look at it. I think I had posted somewhere on another thread about how I had had to put most of my collection into boxes because I had family staying with me for a while. Well, in some ways that was a blessing because most of my collection was in plastic storage bins, so those stayed dry for the most part. Unfortunately the rest were in cardboard boxes that were completely ruined. Some of the packaging on some things (in the plastic bins) were messed up (which is a shame b/c all of my pieces were in mint condition still in the original packaging), but the figures themselves were fine. And some stuff was completely unaffected, thankfully. But what i have been able to assess of what is ruined hasn't been good. Here are a few of my pieces that were utterly ruined and unsalvagable (And sadly, they aren't cheap items either): First production Smile Time Angel Puppet Battle Damaged Smile Time Angel Puppet Boxed Slave Cordy You're Welcome Cordy Cheerleader Cordy Triangles Tara (which utterly broke my heart, its so rare and expensive) Short Hair boxed Buffy Vampire Willow MAC Cordy Season 7 Xander (luckily my signed initiative Xander was okay) School Hard Spike Just Rewards Spike And that is just the two boxes I have been able to bring myself to look through. They are not salvagable, and sadly, they are not cheap items either. So, I don't know when or if I will be able to replace them. But if anyone sees them for cheap anywhere, I would appreciate it if you passed the word along. But I will say we were luckier than most people here who lost everything. Some of our things are salavagable. Some people here lost everything, so I feel bad cpmplaining about destroyed Buffy figures. But it still makes me sad. P.S. Whitecandy, my name is Dawn, not Sarah. LOL.

I'm sorry about that. I loved that show when I was younger. I also had an original die cast Voltron figure (the one where the lions would come apart and go back together to make Voltron) that was ruined. That was really sad as well.

yep, its really Dawn. Well, my middle name, that is. But that's what I've gone by most of my life. So, you know I was excited when Buffy's sister's name was Dawn on the show. And Dawnie is okay with me. I have a few friends (who are Buffy fans) that call me Dawnie already. And sorry about the double post. I'll try not to be offended. **sniffs and tries not to let tears fall from her eyes** J/K I just momentarily forgot. I've been a little scatter brained since everything happened last week. Oh, and I couldn't get that link you posted above to work.

okay, I'll try it again. And, in case there was any doubt, I was teasing about beeing upset about the double post scolding you gave me. Sarcasm and wit are sometimes so difficult to convey through discussion postings. And it probably doesn't help that I have a very dry sense of humor either. My humor is lost on so many. Sigh.

I'm sorry to hear about everyone's losses., especially you, Dusk. That's a lot of stuff to lose. ):
I think the worst I've ever had was when my sister got made at me and threw my Power Rangers Astro Megazord across the room, breaking it's leg off.
I was six.
I find it a little bit funny that Whitecandy thought your name was Sarah, Dusk. I think we have about a dozen girls here named Sarah. XD

P.S. Whitecandy, my name is Dawn, not Sarah. LOL. Oh my gosh I am SO super sorry for calling you the wrong name, I feel awful, I have no idea why I thought you were called Sarah! Here, have some karma to try and compensate for me being so silly I am sorry to hear you don't have insurance and that you lost such precious things. I have only just got my Triangle Tara so know how rare they are. I will keep and eye out for things from your list and let you know if I find anything

Whitecandy - Its completely okay. I wasn't upset about being called Sarah. Its a good name. I just didn't want everyone thinking it was my name. Only reason I mentioned it. And thanks for all the condolences. I really appreciate it. You guys are great. And in a weird way it is comforting to know I am not the only one who has had things damaged in some way. Hope that doesn't sound bad. Eric - I am so sorry to hear about your Power Ranger. My son is 6 and totally loves his Power Rangers. He was so upset when we had to throw some of his toys away (mostly stuffed animals and things that would mildew) I've been bleaching clean what I can, but he did have to say goodbye to a few Power Rangers still. He was devastated.

Well, I actualy lost both of my Vampire Willows (12" Sideshow, and Toyfare Exclusive 6"), but I have the Willow Spellbook which has the 6" in it. The Spellbook was in one of the plastic bins and is fine. So, technically I still have a 6" that is okay. But the 6" I lost was one of the boxed toyfare exlusive AFA U95. But my Sideshow one was the one I was referring to above.
