What are your guys' thoughts on the idea of a male Slayer? A similar discussion at another board got me to thinking and I think getting some fresh opinions would be neat.

hmm. i don't really know how good he would be. I think Joss wouldn't want to do it because he has always been a man for women empowerment. HOWEVER, if there were a 'male slayer' i know who would be the first to play the role.....and im pretty sure people will agree with me on this one!

I've always kind of liked the idea of a male slayer, but for reasons that are stated above in quote, I doubt it'll ever happen. Also - I Was watching Season 1 on netflix a while ago; I forget if it was in episode 1 or 2, but I heard Luke mention that a male slayer caught him sleeping, when recalling the last time he came across a slayer - unless I didn't hear properly.

I don't remember this, but he was probably just confused as to what exactly a slayer was. It was probably just a demon hunter. hmm. i don't really know how good he would be. I'm not sure my boyfriend would be up for that kind of role, but I'll ask him.

Lol to Eric's post! For me, I think that I wouldn't want a male slayer, because then the role of a slayer no longer becomes exclusive. Men and women slayers would probably break off from society and create their own land to live in.

Though would the inclusion of male Slayers in the Buffyverse really take away from female empowerment? We must remember that feminism is about equality between men and women, not women being stronger/more capable than men. Lol to Eric's post! For me, I think that I wouldn't want a male slayer, because then the role of a slayer no longer becomes exclusive. Men and women slayers would probably break off from society and create their own land to live in. Couldn't you argue that that could happen with just female Slayers, as well? What's to stop them by themselves from breaking away from society? It's supposedly happening in season eight and there are no male Slayers to be seen.

Hmm, I don't know... I think I like the idea of a rag tag team of misfits with superpowers struggling to fight against an evil corporation in a post apocalyptic world better.
Also, I think Dax meant that the females and males could reproduce, and create an awesome race of slayers. As much as I'd like it to happen, two females cannot make a baby without outside means.

No - he was just referring to the last person that fought him and lived. There's no implication that the guy was a Slayer. As to the overall question, I think that there are enough male superheroes to go round. The great thing about Buffy is that she's a totally kickass female superhero who could take on pretty much any of the main franchise male superheroes, and yet isn't a piece of flesh to be squeezed into a few pieces of latex and oogled at (though some oogling, admittedly, goes on ;D ). Refreshing.

Though even with male slayers, it's doubtful they'd produce a race of slayers -- something which, come to think of it, would have some pretty disturbing long-term implications -- since there's no evidence of slayerdom being genetically linked.

Not a bad idea but I think I would still go for the female slayer it's something that I'm used to and yes I'm a guy who prefers a pretty slayer!
In some ways we had male slayers even though they were not trained as such and lacked the powers, just look at Xander, Spike and Angel, they weren't exactly 'I Spy' with them!

Personally i think a male slayer would be epic, similar age as a slayer maybe younger. It could happen because you know how they are allot of slayers in the world and the magics that created the slayer, it could have recharged its magics to the opposite sex. So each generation hunter is born. lol Its just a thought.

Ignoring the whole female empowerment message, plus not fitting with the story... I still don't know that I'd want a male slayer.
I don't know that I consider giving slayer strength to testosterone-fueled teenage boys a good idea. Not meaning to offend any guys, but it's pretty common knowledge that guys mature later than girls, and they're already all 'faster pussycat, kill, kill', I wonder if they would take the responsibility as seriously as they should, or if they would just have fun killing vampires and being violent.
That was kind of a gross generalization. But, still.

But not half as horryfying as the idea of a squad of slayers, all having their periods syncronized, being superpower-moody. You know what, I have to write a drabble about that, right now.

Harth is a Vampire. He does not posess any powers (except his vamp powers), just the memories of the slayers that should have gone to his twin sister. He's the closest thing that we've seen to a male slayer however, and I believe the only twin of a slayer as far as we know.

^I see, he was turned into a lurk right?.
But lets say he dies, would the next slayer be called? Or since Fray is still alive.
Buffyverse is very interesting.

Technically, that is. He is a vampire, which counts as dead. No new Slayer was Called. The only Slayer in existence, that we know of, in the 23rd century is Melaka. Sure, that can be retconned later on, by introducing a Slayer in a different location. But to date, there is no textual evidence of another Slayer in Mel's time.

I have not read Fray yet so I have another question.
Why was Fray the only extisting slayer in that time? Like no one before her in the "Future" world?
