I have been thinking about surrogacy a few times during the past year. Are any of you guys planning on having kids through surrogacy? Do any of you lot know anyone who had kids through surrogacy? And what are your opinions on this?

I don't like it. If I wanted kids I'd look into adoption, even if I was straight and perfectly capable of making my own babies.

Surrogacy, yet another way that medical science has made it possible for the human narcissistic complex to manifest itself. Don't understand the need to produce a child that is yours biologically through artificial means, when there are so many children out there for adoption. A child is a child is a child. If you want one, you should be able to love it all the same, genetics be damned.
HOWEVER, in the case of same-sex couples, surrogacy seems to be a lot more convenient than adoption, simply because there is less red tape to dance around. But that's another matter entirely.

It's not that I dislike it. But it seems like an expensive thing to do for something that isn't even a sure thing. I would rather go the adoption route, but that's just me.

I can see pros and cons to each side,I think it has to be a personal choice. Myself I'd rather adopt I think, purely because there are so many little kids out there needing homes and love and it seems right to help them if we can.

I think if you are unable to have kids and you have the money and a willing surrogate than it's a perfectly acceptable road to go down. I do think that it can get complicated, especially if the birth mother developes a bond with the child and has issues giving them up, but all up I think if medicine has advanced enough that we can do something like this, why shouldn't we?
As an adopted child I am all for couples adopting and think that it too is a perfectly good choice, but I also understand that need to have a child that is yours - that comes from your flesh and blood. Some people need that, and if they are able to gain it through legal methods like surrogacy, why not?
Ultimately it's a choice I don't think we can or should judge unless we're put in the situation.
