As I'm sure many of you know, when you're a shipper, you're always reading every scene for something about your ship. Therefore, I don't know if I'm reading to much Spuffiness into this scene in any way, but I've been re-watching a lot of Buffy lately, and I've found Buffy and Spike's scene at her house to be kind of strange.
Specifically, I found Buffy to be very somber and somewhat contemplative in this scene--much more than I would have expected her to be, and kind of out of the blue. After she invites Spike back in, there's a weariness to the way she closes the door and lets her arm just fall to her side. Also, when she's speaking with Spike, Sarah delivers her lines very slowly and quietly. After Spike says, "...even if that happens to be tonight" there's a good 3 second beat where she says nothing and simply stares, and then says "I'll be a minute."
Now, even as a Spuffy shipper, I feel that this is too early to be an indication that Buffy may have feelings for Spike, but the way this scene was acted made me think one of three things:
a) Buffy was suddenly somber because she felt she could be honest with Spike about what their real odds were of winning were
b) Buffy thought that there was no way both of them would make it out of this fight and feels grimly or even sad about it
c) Buffy had something that she wanted to say
I've been dying to figure out why this scene was played this way. I don't have S5 on DVD, so I don't know if there's anything in the commentary about this, but if there is, by all means, I'd love to hear it.
Short of that, I'd really love to hear the opinions from shippers and non-shippers alike.
