Heh, not unlike the first issue, it starts with a ton of exposition. But I'm so excited! ...Except I won't be able to buy it for another few weeks!

My shop didn't get it in and they've been dead on for all the Angel/ Idw stuff. The owner said maybe it would ship next week. Not very reassuring of its release this month unless anyone else got it?

Solid end. Didn't get as epic as I wanted, but not bad.

I have yet to read it as well. Maybe I'll pick up a copy later today. Will there be a review soon Pat?

Likely today, sir! I read it a few nights ago, but I've been swamped and had to get my "Last Angel in Hell" and "Willow" reviews in first.

I was a little disapointed in this issue. Nobody seems to be talking about the issue either.
The artwork was good, but I think a number of things could have been done so much better. The focus of this series should have been about how Gunn felt over his actions in HelLA and whether or not he felt he could be redeemed. His adventures in Texas should have reflected that.
Also, bringing other Old Ones to the table should have expanded the mythology a little more. Instead we got weird explanations that came out of nowhere and weren't really explained. Like how for some reason, if Illyria is near the Mutari Generator, she gets her full powers back. And how Baticus, dispite being and Old One in the BODY of and Old One, can't contain Illyria's powers... because, well, because it was never really explained why. I mean, wasn't Illyria's problem with her powers the fact that she was in a human body?
I seem to be focusing on the negatives. Overall it was an okay series. I guess I'm just a little disapointed in how it was mediocre when it could have been great.

Well I have to say IMO this has been one of the best mini series of the buffyverse I have read. yes it was drawn out over 5 issues when 4 would of been plenty but it had so many good points, we see the scourge, gunns axe and the mutari gun again, old ones background and the twist at the end was fantastic and unexpected. The only thing I would of changed is back in issue 1 illyria keeps her blue hair when morphing into fred mode and acts like illyria, i would of prefered it if she behaved like she did in season 5 when her parents dropped by.
As for vampireinrug it said in either 3 or 4 that Baticus was from an old one he is not a true original old one like illyria. Also it was my understanding illyria drew power from being around baticus like a sponge, her full powers were not restored.

This whole series was mediocre. Great art, underwhelming story/character development. Would've been an okay episode, but not really worth following for 5 months. I wish I'd waited for the HC.

I think the hard cover will be worth getting, I just loved that the whole ending, 'You do everything you should and be all moral, and then you find out out you risked your life to save something that would take yours without batting an eyelid'. I think it was a great lesson for Gunn as he takes the one that can be taught and make a difference, shows great growth in his character after hell-LA . Also the whole thing felt very wheadon even though i don't think he had a hand in it. Dark thorn, if you love illyria then you will like this
