I think the release date for Spike #1 is 13. October. When I've bought the issue from my ebay seller - disposableheroescomics - it was a month ago, the shipping date was 28. October. I hope they will send the issue earlier... I really can't wait to read it!!!

Fantastic stuff! Lynch + Urru = awesomeness to the MAX! Seems like there's some Spike stuff at the end of this month's issue of G.I. Joe (#23). (May also be in other IDW books for this month.) Three new pages plus one from those already released. Is it from the actual issue? If you see it you'll know why I'm asking. ETA: Okay, went ahead and read it. Looks like it's from the actual issue. I'd explain what it's about but it would spoil the effect. Maybe someone can post the scans? Is it allowed? @brian: Oh, the backlash, LOL! Time to touch base with Terrence.

Anyone have an official word on how many covers the first issue is getting? I know theres the standard two and probably a virgin RI cover of one of those. Plus I heard there's the NYCC special cover. Just trying to get a ball park and see if it will get anywhere near the number of covers ATF 1 had. I got around to getting every one of those except the Wedding cover for obvious reasons.

There's the normal Urru cover, the Frison cover, the Urru retailer incentive with Spike burning the Twilight mask, and the NYCC exclusive.

O man this one was a doozy. I really honestly Hope Spike and beck get together. I have missed seeing them together and their chemistry.
I can tell there is gonna be some Beck/Drusilla cat fighting going on.
Nice lil Wolfram and Hart reference too btw.
Other than that no big spoilers, It's just good to have Brian lynch Back

So I got the issue today.
THIS POST CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS
Alone Together Now
The issue opens up with a Las Vegas casino getting swarmed by flesh eating locusts, one of many events that get covered up by authority figures. Spike decides to take it on himself to save Las Vegas.
We are then treated to a brief, yet on-the-nose recapping of his life, where it leaves him in the present day, commenting on the Last Angel in Hell movie. Aside from his fame garnered by that movie, he also inspired the Twinkle Saga book series (parody of Twilight) written none other than Spider Harley, Spike's ex-girlfriend.
A lot of fans (wearing Team William or Team Jared shirts) are lining up to see the first showing of Twinkle Saga: Re-clipse and are excited when a group of real vampires show up. As we all know, real vampires are nothing like how they are portrayed in the books and they attack the fans. Angel, Illyria, and Spike come to the rescue, although Spike can't help but pose for onlooking cameras. Before heading out to Vegas, Spike visits Mosaic to recruit Beck. The Mosaic staff are reluctant at first because Beck has been displaying emotional and behavioral problems, Spike chalks it up to her youth and states that Beta George will accompany them. Mosaic lets Spike have Beck for two days, but she must wear gauntlets to control her pyrokinesis. Beck, who is donning a new tough-girl look, subsequently destroys the gauntlets the first chance she gets.
On their way to Vegas via motorcycle, George displays his ability to psychically glamour himself to passing motorists. At their arrival, Spike is attacked by a demon that controls a group of Elvis impersonators at its will. The impersonators are forced into one another, seemingly to join as one. While Beck uses her abilities to keep tourists from getting hurt, Spike dives in the center of the Elvis ball and kills the demon, but not without injuring his shoulder. Because the demon had been expecting him, Spike affirms that the evil in Las Vegas knows that he is there.
Meanwhile, in a luxurious apartment, the guy featured on the Urru cover of #3 receives a late-night call letting him know that Spike is in Las Vegas. When he returns to bed, his lover is revealed as Drusilla--whose visions predicted Spike's arrival. Although Drusilla has a sexual relationship with the man, she states that her heart belongs to Spike. The man then states that Spike has his soul.
-----------------
So pretty much that's what happens in the issue. I really liked it but there were glaring little moments that made it hard for me to enjoy it. For starters, Lynch's infamous screw-continuity style is in use again. Spike makes direct references to Season Eight when it hasn't happened yet, eg. Buffy and Angel having aerial sex. Also, there is yet another reference to the Twilight Saga. While the parody itself made me laugh myself silly, I can't help but feel that enough is enough. Another noticeable element was Beck. In this issue, her computer records list her birthday as June 21, 1989. A Mosaic staff-member states that Beck is currently 22. While I prefer that stories are dated, it's frustrating to specifically time this issue in late 2011 when Season Eight has yet to happen. Also, Beck's 22, and Spike refers to her as a kid. Buffy was only 20 when he was breaking houses with her, not to mention his history with Buffy initially started when she was 16.
So If I close my eyes, ignore these little instances, and embrace the story for what it is, I have to say I'm extremely happy with the finished product. I never laughed so hard while reading a comic, and I'm so thrilled that Drusilla and Beck are back. It's nice to have Jossian dialog again and I'm eager to read the next issue.

I just read mine, and I quite enjoyed it. There's some rehashing of old stuff, but when putting out a #1 like this, I think the writer wants to make sure than any Spike fan could pick up this book and enjoy it, so they have to retread some old stuff. Having Spider write the "Twinkle" books re-introduces us to the character and tells us some of Spike's history without being too repetitive for those who have read the previous books. He also had to tell us about Spike's history with Buffy and then at WRH in just a few panels.
I can't wait to see where this goes. There's potential for a great story. A lot of humor in this issue, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm sure there will be more of a mix in future issues. George had some great stuff. He's so pop culture saavy!

I need to check in with my comic shop, and grab some money ASAP! This issue sounds amazing. Not sure if anyone would be willing to tell me, but could I find out how Illyria and Spike interacted? One of the main things I was looking forward to in this issue was Brian writing those two together again.

They're barely in the scene together. They bust some vampire heads in and then Spike splits.

Looking forward to getting this tomorrow. What's this about Spike referencing flying sex? Is that specific to Buffy and Angel or more of a sly tongue-in-cheek reference? Could someone quote the line?

It's super tongue in cheek. But is it literally referring to Buffy and Angel? Someone described it as a continuity/timing error with S8 and I was a little concerned, since that shouldn't have happened yet.

SPIKE: I shall keep the team small. I keep it with people I can control, keep it simple. No back-stabbing, no dying, no picking up and leaving, and no aerial sex.
GEORGE: I don't understand that last one.
SPIKE: No one does.

GEORGE: I don't understand that last one. SPIKE: No one does. Lol, that's pretty funny. And it's totally lampshaded so the continuity thing doesn't matter. Looking even more forward to this, wish I didn't have to work tomorrow.
