dvd.ign.com/articles/111/1110645p1.htmlNo additional features or anything and is most likely the same material included in the 2005 release, though different packaging and a 'slimmer' size. (my opinion, why not just skip this and release the blu-ray version already!) Attachments:

There's a Angel series collection with similar packaging being released as well. Not sure they're doing this. Doesn't seem to be anything new released, not a Bonus disc like with Chosen collection or awesome packaging. I mean, how much slimmer is it actually? -EDIT The Angel packaging tvshowsondvd.com/n/14191

My assumption, this will include everything that was included in the 2005 complete series release, and the article just says sleeker packaging. I mean i suppose 20th century fox is trying to milk whats left of buffy on DVD because this is getting released right around the time Dark Horse is releasing the Buffy season 8 motion comics DVD.

Eh. If it were cheaper I'd buy it, but I'd rather get the Chosen collection and spend less money and get the neato box.

I just clicked on the link in the first post, and I see that the Angel box was already mentioned. *embarassed*

Still, if not, i would seriously rather just wait out until i can get the Chosen Collection & the Angel box set.

On the topic of re-releases... I have seen in the walmart $5 dvd bin that fox has re-released the original Buffy movie. The case has been redesigned. Its black with Kristy Swanson wearing a trenchcoat in an attack position with Luke Perry standing behind her. No new features or anything. A guy here has a blog post about it... bobcanada92.blogspot.com/2010/06/twilight-virus-strikes-again.htmlI agree with the guy. When I first saw the new cover I started freaking out thinking something new Buffy had come out. But then saw it was nothing but the original movie in a Twilight-like case. Just thought I'd report it. Also know there are collectors that get stuff even if it is just a new package. (Thought about making a new thread for it, but I know how much the fanbase hates this movie with a passion. Didn't think a thread would go anywhere, or it would have broken down into a "lets diss the movie" fest.)

I don't people would have been that bitca-like. Not sure if it's worth a new thread, but I find it interesting. Not that I think the new cover is all that misleading (I've only seen bits and pieces of the original movie), or that Twilight really was the inspiration (everyone seems to love to blame Twilight for everything these days).

I very much doubt it's the same release. Doesn't mean it's not real tough, different languages/countries/regions have different releases.

Fox must hold some kind of record for most TV on DVD repackaging.
This is nothing new, since all of their TV shows undergo the same process - an initial release, followed by several slimmer packaging revisions over time and now they're doing it with complete series sets.
Content is always the same with these things, because it's usually a ploy to sell off excess stock, and they typically wouldn't spend the money to re-author discs with new content.
Star Wars VHS releases are basically the pioneer for this sort of thing - repackage existing product to make it more attractive, and people buy it - often selling their collections and putting the money toward the new packaging. Of course some re-purchase new packaging and keep the originals for collector's sake, but that seems to be more for people with money to burn.

Here's a image of the re-packaging. www.buffy-boards.com/showpost.php?p=872884&postcount=8Not exactly space saving either. Nothing you can put on a small DVD shelf. Maybe on a bigger one, but it would stick out. I guess it could look good for display purposes, but they could have used the same good looking layout on a more square and placesaving box. Unless they keep the price much lower than what the collection goes for on ebay, this won't sell.

I don't see any point in making some "slimmer" if it doesn't even match DVD size at all.

Frankly, I'm glad I have the original Chosen Collection. That packaging is just lazy.

I think it's good that the seasons seem to be in small DVD cases, like ordinary movie DVD cases. Maybe just throw away the box and keep the seasons? I might do that if the Chosen collection I just bought (yay!) starts to act up and this package is on sale.
