It's a trade paperback. I really wish IDW wanted to do an ASYLUM/SHADOW PUPPETS joint hardcover, but they don't wanna. Boo. Haha Brian is so amusing! Definately NEED hardcovers, surely they'd sell? I mean there is a whole board of us here who want them!

I was able to find a copy of the Asylum TPB at www.mycomicshop.com in NM condition (I couldn't tell it from new) for $18 a couple of weeks ago. If you keep an eye open, one will pop up once in a while. I know I would surely buy a hardcover of Asylum/Shadow Puppets if it were released. Maybe some day.

I waited over 4 weeks for the copy of Asylum I ordered to be posted, but then I noticed it has become unavailable in that time. Lame. Meh I'll just wait and see if a hardcover ever comes to be, I'm too poor for comics now anyway.

So... long wait then, yeah?
TPBs are so... floppy. I've been spoiled by the hardcover awesomosity.

So I've finally read Shadow Puppets, after buying the Angel: Smile Time HC. I'm going to buy the Spike Omnibus later this year for Asylum so I'll end up with two copies of Shadow Puppets. Honestly, it's like waiting for a bus. Anyway, I absolutely loved it. I've said before that Brian writes Spike better than Angel and this series backs me up on that. I was surprised at how much character development Spike received, and how naturally it leads into Spike: After the Fall. It's quite sad how in this story, he learns to surround himself with allies, and then in AtF, most of his "flock" are killed. The relationship between Spike and Lorne was brilliant and I hope it gets continued in the Spike ongoing. I know using Lorne is a touchy subject after Andy Hallett's death, but I don't want the character to disappear. I loved the birthday party scene, it was a nice touching moment in the midst of such a ridiculous story. Beck and Tok are great characters. I like how Tok is a parody of your typical "vengeance" character, she's so over-dramatic. The scene where George watches the fish being cut up was great silent comedy from Franco. The Team Angel puppets and their increasingly-ridiculous soap opera were hilarious, I especially loved Connor and Cordy shamelessly making out on the floor. All the fourth-wall humor was great too, the canon jokes and Angelus' line about fan fiction. This partially redeemed the fact that this story is actually a bit of a bastard when it comes to canon. So yeah, five stars. Can't wait for Asylum and the Spike ongoing.

They're great books. I'm looking forward to more Spike. If only IDW would give Lynch an ongoing series... oh wait

Thanks Paul! A few characters from ASYLUM and PUPPETS are finding their way into the SPIKE series. Who does everyone want to see?

Thanks Paul! A few characters from ASYLUM and PUPPETS are finding their way into the SPIKE series. Who does everyone want to see? Beck and Betta George, of course. Tok and Biv are also very cool. From the "Angel" cast, I think Groo would make a great companion for Spike as well.

Bev(?) the invisible(I might have spelled that wrong) dude would be cool.
He didn't take BS from Spike, and I like that.

I would love to see any of the mentioned characters return. Kozlow would also be very welcome. Same with Groo. I'd also love to see Kenny show up again. His lines in early AtF and #23 just kill me.

Marv the werewolf! I know nothing about him cos I've not read Ayslum but he sounds cool. Plus he looks kinda sexy from the back-of-the-head cameos in Shadow Puppets and Become What You Are. I like me a good wolfman! Also Jim Halpert Jeremy. He's alive now so no excuses Brian! She wasn't in Asylum or Shadow Puppets, but I want to see more of Noelle. Never understood the fascination with Noelle. Can we say plot device?
