After the potentials were activated, both of Xander's serious past partners died. He seems to be in a pretty good place now. I wonder if we'll see how he came to grips with his grief, and whether he even knows about Cordy. I think season 8 wants to do some flashbackery.
Anyone else wanna know what happened between season 7 and season 8 for Xander and others?

I would love to know what happened between them. There are so many unanswered questions. And it's not like it was just a summer break where nothing happened like it was between tv seasons... there was definite stuff that we didn't get to see.

i think (well, actually hope is more accurate) we will eventually get more of a glimpse in the in-between. I hope...

There's a very short Buffy/Xander in-between story in Tales of the Vampires. That and Tales of the Slayers are both worth checking out if you're looking for reading material between issues!
I think the point of setting season eight so far ahead of season seven was so that Joss didn't have to go through the process of setting everything up, though. We've already found out that Buffy has been a-bank robbin' to fund her hardline helicopter habit, and we've found out how newly-activated Slayers are called to the mission, and I imagine itty bits of information are going to spill out as the series progresses. Anything else we're going to have to fill in ourselves.
I bet it involves Willow doing a locator spell...
As for Xander, I'm sure he's going to get an arc/standalone of his own - outside of 'Wolves at the Gate' - at some point. I'd wait until then to see how his grief over Anya pans out. How could they not deal with that? Juicy story angst, OM NOM NOM!
