Has anybody read the novel "Queen of the Slayers" by Nancy Holder? There are a few tidbids within the novel that seem to have popped up in Season Eight that i thought i'd share and hear your thoughts..
1. The title itself has been used in "No Future For You", whom rogue slayer Genevieve used to describe Buffy.
2. Robin Wood takes a group of Slayers to the Hellmouth in Cleveland, this is Robin's current location in Season Eight.
3. They go to Tibet, and re-meet Oz. Tibet? Oz? sounds like "Retreat"?
4. Willow goes into a coma, but is somehow woken up by a kiss from her lover, Kennedy. Sounds a little like Satsu waking up Buffy from a coma with a kiss ay?
[[!SPOILERS!]] 5. Dawn goes into a coma, as she was The Key, and has a link to the Earth, which is crumbling because of the ensuing evil. Now after the cover reveal of #38 this got me thinking, could Dawn be in a coma in the cover as a result of whats happening in "Twilight/Last Gleaming"?
5. Buffy is then joined by both Angel and Spike's souls, and together they create an angelic daughter with all of their features. Now i know everyone hates the idea of Buffy being pregnant but this could be "The Seed".

Where did this book come from? Those are some very interesting points. How old is it?

So are we talking plagiarism here? Do you the think the novel was obscure enough that the current writers could draw from it? I mean those are some hard core coincidences. S8 started 2006 right? Who's the author?

Very interesting comparisons. Could simply just be coincidences. Kennedy has after all already used a kiss Willow to cure Willow in Season 7 (The Killer In Me), and Oz being in Tibet is nothing new (read vrya.net/bdb/clip.php?clip=591 ) , so both the book and series using that isn't weird. Together with the rest it gets spooky tough. I think the theory on why Dawn is sick/dead/hurt on the cover could be correct. Her dying because of Buffy would cause some mayor grief on Buffy's part, and maybe that could make for interesting stories for Season 9 (but we did see Buffy deal with this sort of guilt before, when she sent Angel to Hell, so maybe it wouldn't be that interesting).

Good points. I wonder if it's like Disney, an artist for Disney is owned. Every doodle they make is owned by Disney. So if these ideas are in fact owned by Fox then it's reasonable they are game to be drawn from. Hmmm, I guess we'll see soon enough.

hmmm. It sounds pretty fishy. But i think Joss would be totally against plagiarism, and i don't think he would do it. And i mean, Nancy Holder used Joss's idea with Buffy and got permission to use the storyline. and if anything Joss may have collaborated with Nancy on her book....*shrugs* and im really curious to see the whole Dawn storyline come in on "Last Gleaming". can't wait for the Riley one shot too! im picking that up tomorrow!!!

Okay, I thought you meant she used one of his specific ideas for a plot that wasn't used on the show or something like that.

Weird, I was thinking about this the other day. I think its just a coincidence to be honest. A lot of those ideas are fairly obvious directions to go in, the Cleveland thing for instance was set up in "Chosen".
As for Oz, it's a no-brainer to bring him back since casting isn't an issue anymore and he was never meant to leave in the first place. And it was mentioned he went to Tibet in the show (as well as being elaborated on in expanded universe stories) so that's nothing new.
Like I say, coincidences, though it does make me appreciate Queen of the Slayers slightly more than I used to. When S8 started, I thought "This will put that QotS to shame!" But they've actually turned out somewhat similar in many ways. QotS actually seems more focused, since it deals with the Slayers more (as opposed to the Twilight nonsense), although it always felt shallow to me.

Lets hope they don't go that route. That book was perhaps the biggest piece of drek I've ever had the misfortune to read. And I didn't even finish it.

I actually read that book and I was completely disappointed in it. The last few chapters felt completely rushed and there were many loose ends that were never wrapped. The first half of the book, however, was intriguing, I'll give it that.

[[RILEY ONE-SHOT SPOILERS]] Well after reading the Riley one-shot today i'd like to add more fuel to the speculations, in the novel Queen of the Slayers, Buffy is visited by the good demon, WHISTLER!. The Powers That Be send him to Buffy!. And now it is revealed in season eight that Whistler was sent to Angel, from the Powers That Be! sounds oddly similarrrr...

That was revealed way back in Season 2...EXTREMELY old news. And I read Queen of the Slayers, and while some parts intrigued me, others dissapointed and felt "not-Buffy." I don't think they snagged tid-bits from the novel, I think it's just a coincidence.
