www.thefutoncritic.com/rant.aspx?id=20080320 (Down to where it says 8:34, site wont let copy/paste) Just to get another discussion because they are fun, how do people feel about Joss saying, if there were to be a movie, he'd be willing to shoot down the comics if there was a canon/continuity problem? I was kind of shocked when I read it. I mean, Season 8 is a HUGE project. Joss and others are putting a lot of hard work into the series. If there were to be a movie, I don't see why it can't just take place after Season 8 and 9, instead of just ignoring them completely, or maybe even between 8 and 9. And here's a "what if" question:Joss announces he is going to make a movie and all of the cast is returning, BUT he says the comics wont exist anymore. Which would you want more? A live-action Buffy movie or Season 8/9 comics? Although I'm liking the comics, I'd be willing to ignore them for a movie. I mean, they will still be there to read and stuff, but they are not canon.

I can't believe he'd drop the comics like that. Kinda hurts. But a movie would be GREAT!

That would irritate the hell out of me if it happened. I'm really liking the way Season 8 is going and for it to just be basically tossed would suck. I'd want a movie, but I have to say if it meant the comics were ignored, I'd be against it. I like how the comics are released monthly and Season 8 alone will last for a few years. A movie, on the other hand, would be over in about two hours.

I don't see where it would be a big deal. One wouldn't have to cancel out the other as the "true" post-S7 story. Since they'd both be written by Joss, I'd just look at them as two separate-but-equal storylines.

Yeah I hope this isn't received too badly. Joss only said that he WOULD wipe the comic for a movie, but also was well aware how unlikely any form of filmed media would be. And being willing to ignore the comic is different to actively wanting to. I doubt Joss would undercut his own material lightly.

I would definitely prefer the movie over the comics. However...if he completey wipes away the comics....I would most definitely want my 65 dollars back! XD. But for real, I would love to have a movie much more than the comics.

I would think he'd find a way to tie into continuity with the comics. Joss loves comics, so I don't think he'd entirely drop it or dismiss it completely.

I dont think that this statement 's a big issue, Joss only said that because he is so keen on showing his ideas and visualisations on the big screen nothing more .I mean if he could actually shoot season 8 for a tv network or turn it into amovie then he would paritally ignore the comics , it was an expression of how enthusiastic he'd be if someone offered him a fim or even a tv deal for b's next adventure. No need to argue about, if he didnt like the comics then he wouldnt spend so much time writing them

I don't think he would stop making the comics, I just think he might not go in the same directions he's going if a movie were coming down the pike (He he, Luke Perry).
Did anyone else sort of wish Luke Perry did a cameo on Buffy? I mean, really, who didn't want to make out with him?
If I were Joss, which I'm clearly not, I would make a movie out of an arch from the comics.

Id hate it. I much rather have the comics then a movie of Buffy. With the comics they keep on coming and you know they will last for a few years with new story's coming out eachmonth, but if they made a movie and cut out the comics it would be like saying we've been reading was just a what if story and once you watched the film a few hundred times it will get boring so at least with the comics there is something new each month.

This is ironic because i always wanted a movie, but i would rather have a comic that would continue the story of the Buffyverse for a few more years than a movie that would completley end the series.

I think the big reason I'd prefer a movie over the comics is because of the cast. The comics have the great writing and has more room for a big story, but it's not the same without the cast acting out the words. Especially seeing them again at the reunion, it was very bittersweet and I'd love to see them as the characters again. Even if a movie were to happen and it disregarded the comics, they'd still be there to read and enjoy and they still have Joss's name on it.

I'd say I'd rather have the comics.
As much as I love these actors it would be terrible for them to be pidgenholed in these roles forever, like StarTrek.

Besides, id rather have a comic that'll run for the next four years rather than a movie that'll end in 2 hours.

Just remember all the 'IF's that have to happen for this to even become something to worry about. IF Joss decides he wants to make a movie. IF a studio will give him a deal to make it. IF they can get all the cast to agree to come back and do it. IF Joss sits down to write it and can't come up with a story that meshes with the comics.
And IF all those things happened, again, I'd treat both stories as true. It'd be like the "Terminator" franchise. After T2, the story has now branched out into two completely separate timelines: one that includes T3, and one that includes the TV show. I personally prefer the events of the show to that of the third movie, but I don't look at either as more "true" than the other. They're just alternate continuations of the same original story.
That said, it still wasn't the smartest thing for Joss to say... especially considering how unlikely a movie is. All he's gonna do is piss off some readers of the comics who're suddenly going to think he's looking at them is inconvenient and non-canon. I wonder what the folks at DH are thinking right about now? (And I wouldn't be surprised to hear him "clarify" himself on this subject in an upcoming interview, and reiterate how important he views the comic series.)

Honestly, I'd rather have a movie. But I'd be beyond pissed off if we had to give up on comics. I mean, they wouldn't be fun to read anymore if they weren't canon. That's the only reason why I'm reading the Season 8 comics, because this is supposed to be the SHOW. Exactly. I don't have a problem with waiting till after the comics for a movie. There has to be a way to fit one in somewhere. What would be the point of writing the comics only to possibly disregard them in the future?

He didn't say he'd get rid of the comics, he said he'd make them non-canon. I don't care..., just make the comics canon in your head if it happens LOL. I think it's sensible personally, cause to market a movie to the general public they wouldn't want a big wtf happened there where the comics are in the storyline..
In a way though i guess it wouldn't matter, cause they'd want to appeal to everyone not just fans of the show, if anything it would have to stand alone, from the tv show and the comics, it's own little movie bubble..., no prior viewing neccicery. Like how they changed a few things in firefly for the serenity movie to make it a neat little movie bundle.
God i want a buffy movie.

Comics>Movies Unless we get 40 movies (which would be too metal for us to handle, I'm sure) I would rather keep the Buffyverse going for a few years than see it end in two hours. Besides, I like comic books.

Why can't we have both? Honestly, I think that the best time frame for the movie would be between seasons 7 and 8. Granted that might be difficult because of aging, but all the actors/actresses except for Dawn look nearly the same. Even if Aly has to dye her hair red again.
Besides, I don't think that Joss really intends to just go off and non-canonize the comics. I agree that he was probably just showing his enthusiasm for the *prospect* of a Buffy movie even though he knows that it probably cannot happen. And if it does, it won't necessarily mess with the comics continuity.
