Hey,
Ive started doing a re-watch of Buffy season 2 and I have noticed that the lighting, contrast or something like that seems a bit different in this season. A better way to put it is that the picture in this season seems to have a beige or light brown tint to it.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or could it just be my dvds or tv etc...

Yeah, I think that Season 2 is more "beige" and often less bright than the other seasons.
Maybe it's how they film it? I think Season 1 and 2 had a different filming technique, and that made them more grainy than the later seasons which are more HQ. Could effect the light I guess. I think that Season 2 is more "beige".

Yeah, I've noticed it, but I actually kinda like the dark, grainy feel of season 2.

Ahh ok that makes sence ^^I actually like the way it is filmed too! It's like digital make-up... Makes all the actors skin look smooth

I have never noticed that before, although always thought that the earlier seasons were darker and grainier than the later ones which I always put down to improvements in technology as time went on. I will have to do a season re-watch.

I like that season 2, in many ways such a hurtful and dark season, is dark beige. I wonder how season 6 would have looked with similar lightning, or something colder. Consider the lightning they use in Supernatural, which is cold, and how it would have effected season 6. I think it would have made it even more depressing, but in a good way.

^^Lol. I remember watching extras for Supernatural and the directors said they get complaints for how dark the lighting is. They say that they don't do it on purpose, it's just dark and grey in the areas of Canada they film it in, lol.
My favorite seasons are far as colors and brightness in the film goes is in Season 4 and 5 because everything is so bright and pretty in those seasons :3

They filmed Seasons One and Two in like 16mm or something and upgraded afterwards, explaining the difference

They filmed Seasons One and Two in like 16mm or something and upgraded afterwards, explaining the difference The difference of course, being that they started shooting in traditional 35mm film like most television shows and virtually all movies. Until now, since most shows shoot with HD cameras to cut costs.

I love the lighting in this season because it gives a comfortable atmosphere.

Seasons 1 and 2 were shot on 16mm film as opposed to the then usual 35mm which gave it a grainier look and feel. The lighting also changed subtly from seasons 2 to 3 becoming a little brighter and glossier with the shift to 35mm.
