I suppose all the post counts and karma totals will disappear too?
It will be a shame to lose continuity with all those threads. I assume somebody has made backups of the really important posts, like the Q&A transcripts, and they can be brought over?

I'm really loving the idea of the change. It sounds more simple.

I assume somebody has made backups of the really important posts, like the Q&A transcripts, and they can be brought over? Emmie has backed up the Allie Q&As, and I have most of Jeanty's Q&As on file, but I'll be going through to make sure that I have all of them. Also, we'll be changing the links back to proboards ones, so that once the forum goes into archival mode, those links will remain active.

I suppose all the post counts and karma totals will disappear too? It will be a shame to lose continuity with all those threads. I assume somebody has made backups of the really important posts, like the Q&A transcripts, and they can be brought over? If I can modify post counts, I will manually edit them for everyone as they join the fresh forum. The same goes for Karmic levels, I want things to carry over as much as possible. We can transcribe threads and re-start them in the new forum as well. It'll be a slow cross-over to ensure there's no loss in communication and conversation between members. Believe me, the new forum WILL be spectacular. I've hired a programmer to set it up, coded correctly, and I am handling the graphics as usual. For all archived topics, we will include a link back to this Proboard as well. We've got it all planned out pretty much, we just weren't sure when we'd announce all this. It's gonna be really cool when we're done though! I just want to re-iterate that there will be no loss of the stuff we've posted on this forum for the last three years. This forum isn't being deleted, just locked for posting. The future will be at the new, permanent forum. So we'll all just be posting there instead of here. But we'll link both forums up frequently, since this will serve as an archive. ALL boards will be recreated at the new forum, as well as new ones for the upcoming Dark Horse books for Season 9, Angel, et all. Threads are welcome to be re-created too, such as "What's Up?" We encourage you guys to help us build it up

Ok this sounds really cool. If you're looking for suggestions I don't know if this is possible but something akin to facebook notifications or the "Who quoted me" tool they have on The Student Room would be really lovely, because sometimes I reply to things people said ages ago and they have no way of realising so never read me comment. That's only an idea, I don't know if it's possible. I think this is a really great idea CowboyGuy, thanks

Hey, CBG, could you put my post count to zero for the new forum? New forum, new me.

This is great. Are you planning a mass-email? Might be good to alert those that only log in about once a month and never check this section. And I don't really think we all need to keep the karma and post count and carry it to the new forum. Sounds like a lot of extra work for you. you made the smilies? that's very impressive. I think the change is probably for the best, although sky is probably going to cry for a week over 'what's up'... Until I start 'What's Up: The Return' at the new place. That's right, dibs on re-creating my baby.

I actually have a question that might not be answerable. What is the layout going to look like? I know there is going to be change, but is it going to be similar to this one? I'm rather fond of it. Until I start 'What's Up: The Return' at the new place. That's right, dibs on re-creating my baby. That reminds me of something that I was thinking about earlier. I'm considering revamping the Claim A Character thread when the new forum comes along. For the most part, I want to implement a system that would make it so members that didn't join the new forum in a set amount of weeks or months, would lose their claim. This would let me cut some dead weight from the list of claims.

That sounds like a fine idea Eric. I would be joining the new forum as soon as it opens and hope to stake my claim on Riley again if I am allowed.

@ Cowboyguy
Is there any way we can contribute, money-wise, to the new site? Any idea how much the final cost is going to be for you?

Yes we'll be sending out a few mass emails to announce the change. The layout will be similar to what we have. A little sleeker. Donations are accepted through PayPal "Claim a Character" will be a Social Group, where the members make their claim. The group leader will keep track of checkins and free characters, and who has lost their claims. Sound fine?

vBulletin is a good system. One thing I particularly like about it is that its reputation (a.k.a. karma) system allows you to leave a comment when you give rep; that comment then shows up at the bottom of the post. It's a convenient way to say "me too," or comment briefly on some little part of a post, or other little things that don't necessarily require a whole new post.

Do you happen to have an estimation of when the forum will be done?

Sometime between now and November, the new forum will be up. It's going to take a while to get everything up and settled. I hope to get the basic site up with the next few weeks, so people can join. THIS forum will remain open until I feel like most members know about the big switch. Also, the URL will simply be slayalive.com for simplicity.

I was actually kinda having running it, but whatever is best for the forum. (:
