The show may be ten years old, but the popularity of it will never die down, clearly *points at the thousands of fan-sites, SlayAlive in particular*. I think it would be a great comeback for the show, and Joss might be willing to do it, but he and every other Buffy fan would agree that there is NO BUFFY without the original cast, especially Sarah Michelle Gellar. If he re-newed the show without the original cast, I would start a petition to END the show.

Oh I know that the popularity of the show will never die down, that is a given, I just think it's just too early to re-new the show, and I think a while back, Sarah said she was done with Buffy. However, I do remember her saying that if Joss were to do a movie and the script was good enough, Sarah would definitely be interested.

If using the same actors I wouldn't want to see the same storyline, I mean you might as well just watch the original series. But it would be nice to bring them all back for maybe a film set after the series.
The only way you could do the same storyline is to use different actors, and tbh I'm not a big fan of remakes.

I actually think it's getting too late. It seems like SMG and DB among others have moved on from the BTVS world. Sadly. I can't even lie if a re-make is ever made with different actors I'll see it just to criticize it. As far as I'm concerned I don't really want a re-boot or whatever of any kind without the original actors. I'll signed the petition, but I can't be in denial and think that the original actors would ever get involved again. I can only wish upon a shooting star.

Yeah, I really don't think there's any chance of Buffy coming back to TV unless it is a remake ala "V" or "Nikita". I leave a tiny bit of hope for a movie if the Avengers his huge and Joss has tons of power, but even then, its getting too late. I really don't think DB and JM can play vamps anymore. I mean, they both look good, but they definitely look older. I was having a hard time with DB even in Angel Season 5. He was looking older, gained some weight (I think he had an injury or something that contributed). Again, still looked great, but didn't look immortal.

Not sure about a new show with most of the old gang. They are now much older, suppose you could have the kids from the Slayer and gang (Willow in this case would have adopted of course or sperm donar). Definitely the original writers and directing crew.
Problem is I have seen attempts at bringing popular programmes back and they seldom work with the exception of the few say like 'Star Trek'.

I would only be interested in either a one-season event with original cast or a feature length movie with the original cast. I don't want to tie down the cast and make them feel like Buffy is the only way they can get praised or to make them feel as if they are obligated to give us another series or movie. Just like someone above said: I would see the movie (if not with original cast) to criticize it. And only to do that. No matter how much I really love the cast and series, I would not want it to be brought back under false cast or to the original cast' sadness. For some odd reason, Buffy is very important to me, emotionally. That means that I would not want to bring it back if there is a large or medium chance it will ruin the name.

You know I think a movie could work quite well, like how the X-files came back with a film like ten years after the series ended. It could be something like Buffy decides she's way too old to slay and wants to settle down and start a family but things are so crazy in the demon world and everyone is trying to pursuade her not to and so she goes and slays the world one last time and ends up saving a little girl whose parents unfortunately died. But then the film ends with her moving to a nice little house in the country, marrying Angel and adopting the little girl. And it'll finish with her saying to her daughter something like 'I'm totally done with the slaying now, but I can tell you your life will be anything but normal...'
Sorry I imagining too much there... All I meant to say was yeah a film wouldd be nice.

I think a Buffy movie could work, if they have the right storyline and it isn't rushed. That's part of the reason why the original movie back in the 90s didn't work, it was a rushed production in hopes to be a summer crowd pleaser. If they did it right, I think a film could work, it just needs to be done properly.

Buffy had a great run, and I'm not sure I would want to see a new series. Sometimes a good thing needs to be left alone.
That said, I prefer the Season 8 approach to the approach taken by the aborted animated series: letting the characters continue to evolve and letting the story continue from where it left off. We don't need more episodes of Buffy the spunky high school cheerleader learning to fight vampires; we've already seen that. Buffy the general, growing into her role as leader of a worldwide slayer organization, is a lot more interesting.

I think it would be great to see more stories being told, but at least we have the comics for that.

A one-of Buffy movie would be okay and with the original stars but the makers would have to be acreful not to make them look too young, I mean like theywere when they saving Sunnydale. They would haveto have more mature approach. Can you imagine how Giles would react to our intrepid heros 10 years on with familiees and such and expecting them to come out of retirement to save the world yet again!
Another reason I can't see a new series with the old crew is that if I remember correctly the world was left with loads of slayers as all the potential had been made into fully fledged slayers.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I must disagree.
To revive the show with the same actors would be impossible, even if they all agreed. Face it, they're too old.
Also, the popularity of the show absolutely will die down. I watch it constantly, as most of us do. I love it. But it's already looking and sounding dated. To tell the truth, it was a little dated even when it was on the air. Tell the truth! How many of you understood "Lost Weekend" or "pull a William Burroughs" without looking it up? I'll best most of you had to ask what "Zeppo" meant.
Think about Star Trek. Who gives a damn about the original Star Trek anymore? It's embarrassing to watch it. The Star Trek universe survives because new stories were being and are being made. So ...
What we need is NEW stories with NEW characters in the same universe, based on NEW ideas, hopefully with OLD themes.
Arnold Toynbee: "Only birth can conquer death, and not the birth of the same old thing again, but the birth of something new."
That's why this talk about canon sickens me. By insisting on canon, we're committing suicide as a fandom.
That's what I think. Does this belong in the unpopular rants thread?

^ I must disagree with your Star Trek comment. I think Next Gen is and always will be the best of the series. The film was good I'd give you that. But the newest series wasn't good at all.
EDIT: Also using Star Trek as a point, the older seasons had a following simelar to the Buffy following, and the new film has pleased all the old fans and brought along a ton of new fans. So surely a Buffy film could do the same thing? Worked with Star Trek, worked with X-files.
