For me, it was the idea that for the Slayer, the presence of nearby vampires manifests as menstrual cramps. Seriously, what the fuck?

The menstrual cramps part bothered me as well, but the thing I disliked most was how annoyingly ditsy Buffy and her friends were.

Didn't dislike it but it was played too much for laughs, just doesn't compare to the series. Kirsty was gorgeous though

What I didn't like was how camp all the vampires were. Both make-up and acting were completely over the top.
Also I wanted her to burn down the gym! But that's less of a problem with the movie, more of an issue in my own head.

Honestly the only thing I enjoyed about the movie was how over the top the vampires were. It was the only part I found even remotely amusing.

I quite like a lot about this movie... I like Kristy Swanson (she's a perfectly good and underrated Buffy... remember, the character wasn't as complex when she played her so you can't compare her too much to SMG), I like the ridiculous valspeak and airhead girls, and I like Luke Perry as Pike. Things I don't like are the vampires... both Lothos and Amilyn get on my nerves so bad. They're just too cheesy. I also dislike Donald Sutherland as Merrick... just not a fan of him in general to be honest. Also there are a few "gag" moments that made me cringe quite a lot, especially toward the end. The principal/counsellor smacking the girl's head off the wall to make her shut up comes to mind... I think the movie gets a bad rap from Buffy fans. No, it's not as good as the show but it's still an interesting and relevant part of the Buffy franchise.

I didn't like Kristy Swanson's Buffy. I don't mean that I don't like Kristy Swanson, or I don't think she did a good acting job, but the character of Buffy wasn't likable. I didn't care about her. Why watch if you don't care about the characters?
When Buffy says, in the movie, that her early warning mechanism was PMS, I figured that was just a way of speaking. I assumed the actual feeling was queasiness, something like a sour stomach. That Buffy should have some kind of "spider sense" that would alert her to vampires seemed a good idea, they should've carried that over into the series.
Pike might've been incorporated into the series somehow. He was the most likable character there, I agree with Paul on that.
Merrick reincarnating, or whatever he did, that I didn't care for. The TV series did better with the watcher angle.

^^I agree, I love Kristy but hated her Buffy, definitely wasn't likable, more annoying. I do kind of like the film as a comedy film on its own, the over the top vamps make me laugh and the cheesiness of it all, but to think such an awesome show followed it just makes my head hurt!! I feel the same about Sex and the City though. The book is the biggest pile of rubbish I have ever read, and the fact that the show came from that is just mystifying. I really do think they just used the character names and threw the rest of it away

I haven't seen the movie in so long, but I loved it as a child so it's kind of a guilty pleasure status even though I admit how bad it is.
Honestly, I kind of feel like almost everything the series did with the Slayer, Watcher, and Vampire angle is what the movie was missing. It was just all done ridiculously which is why I can see Joss has such a problem with it among many reasons.
It's actually interesting because as a child I never thought of it this way, but in reality the story of Buffy/The Slayer really does work best as a television series. When I was younger, before the series, I kept wanting to know what happened to her after Prom.

It wasn't so much what was wrong, but what was good. Kirsty looked great and did her best, but the biggest let down was Rutger Hauer. As a rule he is a good actorbut in in the BtVS movie he acted like a geratric with a zimmer frame, Donald sutherland didn't quite make it as a Watcher either, too much humour and not enough Giles style!
Amazingly, Hauer and Sutherland played together in the remake of Salems Lot (2004) and again Rutger played the part ofthe vampire who should have been in a retiremeant home, at least Donald was a lot better!
I'm pleased that Joss and the crew got hold of Sarah and the gang for the series because if they the way as the movie the series we all love and know would have been a total flop.

How about I start with what I liked about the movie. Luke Perry! I also always wished that Pike was on the TV series especially after reading Buffy Omnibus. That's...about....it. I know one thing that really got on my nerves is that we didn't see the vampire turn to dust blood or anything. WTF?
