Never shall I allow Buffy to die in my heart!! Hehe I'm not an avid fan of the Batsu sex, but I accept that it was necessary to inspire development for Buffy's story.

No more than I want the Marvel Universe, the DC Universe, or the ACTUAL UNIVERSE (that one may be a bit of a reach) to end.
Could Satsu be possibly worse than anyone else she's ever bedded? If anything, she's a MASSIVE step up for the Buffster.

I'll admit (before i read the comic) when I first found out about Buffy and Satsu I wanted to stop reading the comics all together, and I was completely against the two of them, even if it was a one time thing... but then I got used to the fact that, hey, she's open minded. Its' not like she's going to be full-on gay, so I read the comic and now I have to say it's my favorite issue so far. It's so funny and it's leading on to a great new story.. I'm completely over the fact Buffy might be bi and I will definitely be reading the next issue.

Just because I don't agree with what Joss has done in this issue doesn't mean I want the verse to die there is still a lot of great stuff to be done. Who is Twilight, who will betray Buffy, why do the Tokyo vamps want the scythe and do Renee and Xander have a chance together or is there more to Renee than we know? I didn't really like the Initiative in season 4 but I didn't stop watching it just because I didn't like it, season 6 was not the best of the series but I still watched it. Just because I might not like the idea of something doesn't mean I'm going to stop reading/watching it. As long as it is not dragged out for a lot of issues then I really don't care it was just two-three pages and the Buffyverse SHOULD be about more than that. However this is just my opinion. Can I just quickly add that I still think it was out of character and a little bit sudden which is why fans are freaking.

God no! Even when/if the comics stops, the Buffyverse will never die!
I don't get why people are going to stop reading just because of the Buffy/Satsu thing. I mean, there has to be at least ONE thing they didn't like about the show, did they stop watching then?

i am getting really annoyed. I mean, all these things keep starting: Amy and Warren, the army boys, Twilight, now the wolves, willow and buffy's weird rift, giles/faith/buffy thing, evil slayer thing, etc etc. everything keeps getting started, but I feel like instead of getting answers, we keep getting more beginnings. Though I trust Joss, I don't trust or really like the comics after reading this one. Will I turn my back? Not yet. I never thought I would even consider it, but honestly, I am getting annoyed. It just doesn't feel like Buffy......... but that's just me.

It probably doesn't feel like it because it takes 4 months to tell a full episode most times. We're only in what? Episode 4 or 5 of the season? We're still in the beginning, even after a year.

My thinking is this -- Joss Whedon is without question one of the most daring writers of popular fiction of his generation, and certainly one of the most able to capture the imagination of an audience. But he is not without flaws. And his main flaw is that when he has a Big Idea, something he really wants to tell us about what he sees in or wants for the world, he sometimes (not even often, but sometimes) loses sight of the little details that his audience hasn't, and misses the ball completely while swinging for the fences. Examples -- - The season 6 Buffy arc.
- The Slayer spell in "Chosen"
- The Scoobies kicking Buffy out
- Buffy's "experiment" with Satsu
In each of these instances, Joss was going for something significant. Deconstructing heroism, deconstructing leadership, a study in the transition to an adulthood and the lack of purpose that can be found there. With the Slayer spell, the idea was that the female empowerment of the Slayer was universal, something for every woman, not just Buffy. And Buffy's experiment? She's young and experimenting, imperfect, and open-minded. But he lost the audience in the details. Take "Chosen" specifically -- who hasn't, in the years since, seen and been reasonably moved by the argument that it was this really bad thing, that the potentials had no choice, that they were *violated*? I certainly have. At the very least, this is 50/50 in the audience, but I suspect it's a significant majority that is at least somewhat certain that the spell was morally questionable. And now with the experiment. What was in theory a message about youth and experimentation blah blah blah sexuality cakes was completely undermined by his audience being a step ahead, not *caring* that Satsu was a girl, and being *really* upset that Buffy would use a girl that loves her to satisfy her own needs and her own curiousity. Swings for the fences, and misses. But, again, this isn't because he's bad, it's just because he's human. Like the controversy over past storylines that similarly disconnected from the audience, this will blow over. I think it's premature to near absurdity to suggest that most or even many of the Buffy fans out there want the whole thing to just get put to a stop and no more canon stories be made. Whatever story Joss has coming with this will either tell us we were wrong or tell us that he knows we had a point, and the fandom will go on as strongly as before. On another forum, a poll was launched to "grade" Season 8 after the first year. I gave it an "A", saying that there is a difference between the quality and intrigue of a story and the likeability and happiness with the choices a character makes in that story. And Season 8 is *still* delivering quality and intrigue I don't think the Buffy series has produced since Season 3 or Season 5. We've still got about two and a half years of this season to enjoy, and I am counting on "A" level work throughout before diving right into Season 9 and whatever else Joss feels like giving us.

Apparently you don't watch "Lost". I guess I've missed the comments of all the people who are giving up and leaving after this (thankfully). I might've seen one or two, and I remember a few "If they ever did that, I'm out," threats after #11 last month, but that's it. But if that kinda thing really is going on on different messageboards, I wouldn't take it too seriously. Firstly, they're a very small, but very loud, fringe group--hence the term, "vocal minority". And secondly, they can say whatever they want now, but how many do you think will actually follow thru on it? Haven't you ever had a fight with someone and said "I'm never talking to them again!" But you eventually did, again, right? A small percentage might actually stop buying the comics after this, but even among those, after a few issues have gone by and people are still excitedly talking about all the new developments, there'll be a few who won't be able to help themselves, and will reluctantly dive back in, and buy all the back issues they missed in the meantime. I don't think this is going to put more than a minor dent in S8's sales, and with all the attention it's gotten in the NY Times, ABC News, MTV, etc., I'll bet it actually sells even better now, not because this one event will draw new readers in solely to see Buffy get it on with some chick, but because there are bound to still be fans of the show out there who hadn't even known S8 existed until this. So take heart, and not for us, the furrowed brow...

Apparently ever since the Batsu incident in just about every Buffy fan community people are throwing their hands up and walking out of the fandom. Just about every major event in Buffy caused people to walk out of the fandom. Well when I saw walk, I mean dramatically announce to the entire board that they were leaving as Joss had personally decided to destroy their lives, wait till people begged them to stay so they could get attention and then leave and then come back again. This happens all the time, in the long run the Batsu event is a storm in a tea cup so I really wouldn't worry about it. Also if the fandom isn't bitching about something, then I would be worried.

It probably doesn't feel like it because it takes 4 months to tell a full episode most times. We're only in what? Episode 4 or 5 of the season? We're still in the beginning, even after a year. I think that's part of the problem with the comics; a lot of Buffy fans had never read comics before, but I'm still not sure that Joss has found his groove as a comics writer. It's the major 'PLOT TWIST!!!', the 'WAPOW! BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING!' at the end of almost every issue that irks me (particularly given that we've usually worked out what's coming about three months in advance); if he'd go out on some mystery and intruige - the way that Twilight pops up at the end of No Future For You was perfect - I think people would feel more inclined to stick around for the next month, and using the time in between to do what this fandom is best at; creating batshit theories that everyone shoots down that then turn out to be correct. I do find the Buffy community slightly unhinged at times. There can be a bit of a hive mind going on, and anyone who disagrees with the consensus/suggets that Joss's work might be flawed in anyway whatsoever tends to get booted out, but I think that's true of most fandoms. That said, there are a lot of good things about the fandom, and about this board, and I'll be sticking around to see how things play out. I've yet to see anyone flounce out of the fandom, though I'll be sure to point and laugh at them as they do. MB x

I've decided not to buy the comic anymore because it simply bores me. I have no interest in it. I gave it 12 issues. And I am done. I know lots of people enjoy it and that's great. I was totally bored reading this last issue. I just don't care what happens anymore. Maybe some day I will buy the TPB's and catch up...but for now I am sticking to After the Fall which I am totally loving!
And no I dont want the Buffyverse to die cos it gives so many people so much enjoyment. Just not me anymore

Well, see now? Look at that poll. We all (well most of us) have something in common. We love Buffy. And I think we should focus on that. Because isn't that all that matters in the long run? We have more in common, despite our differences, than you think. Buffy is an icon and she's always getting new layers. This is a new one. I, happen to love she did this, as it stirs so much up. But to those of you who aren't fans of Joss' decision, THANK YOU for at least sticking with the Buffyverse and wanting it to "Slay Alive". (hahaha) We need more positive people like you who can disagree with an artistic decision but still LOVE the material and want it to succeed. The rest of the people...who want to call Joss and other people names, and get furious and leave? Then you can leave. We don't need that kind of energy in our fanbase. At least until you cool down. Then you can come back. :-) But I can't guarantee you won't be spanked. Well said Mikey. And NO I don't want the Buffyverse to die. That's not even an option because as long as the Earth keeps spinning, Buffy will always exist. And Season 8 is too good!

When i first turned the page to see them in bed and that was it i was like pff im not Reading it anymore. But i did. As much as i really don't like Buffy and Satsu doing what they did it doesn't mean I'm going to stop reading/watching the Buffy verse. You cant always agree with everything that happens but if your a true fan you will be there through the good times and the bad.

Why are people getting ahead of themselves. Buffy and Sats are not and probably will never be in a relationship. There are still three more parts to Wolves At The Gate. Thats more than enough time for this "relationship" to fall apart in.

Thats more than enough time for this "relationship" to fall apart in. We know they wont be together. Joss has said that but its still a shock and a lot of people are upset or whatever over it. Some may end up not readying the rest of it because of that. Its like if Buffy turned out to be a guy. Would you carry on reading after finding that out. I wouldn't because it would have totally killed the show. Which is how some people feel about Buffy and Satsu.

lol some times people are reading into this too much. one situation isn't going to kill the fans off. im sure people flipped when tara died too, amongst other big events in the show. we'll see how it plays out. i am pretty sure i'm not going to stop reading it. now if willow or faith died i'd be gone
