This actually pretty funny if you think about. I just re-watched the finale of Buffy and in the final scene (when the camera is slowly panning in on Buffy's famous last smile) the characters all have little discussions. One of the main lines is Faith's line "So how does it feel not being the one and only chosen anymore? You just gotta live like a person, how's that feel?" (or something along those lines). It's kind of ironic if you think about it because Buffy HASN'T been "the ONE AND ONLY chosen" since Fiath arrived...yet Faith is the one to say that line. I thought this was pretty funny when I re-watched it back. Just wanted to share. Maybe there is an underlying thing that Joss was trying to do that I didn't catch on?

It is weird. I guess it shows Faith really is over the whole "I hate Buffy, because she has friends and a mom and watcher I don't"-deal, and now she doesn't think of herself as chosen as well.

I think it's Faith acknowledging how much pressure she put Buffy under throughout the years. Ideally, they would have shared the burden of being the slayer, but because of Faith's lack of responsibility and general craziness, Buffy had to do it by herself.

I re-watched that the other night too and I also thought it was strange. Could it have been lazy writing, or insight into the insecurities of Faith. Maybe she never really felt chosen since Buffy was there before her.

I personally feel like Faith had made the conscious decision to seek redemption a few years before that big battle. In her redemption, she's probably acknowledged that she abused her calling and didn't really act as the Slayer. Before she broke out of jail, she had never acted as the slayer because it was morally the right thing to do...she did it because she enjoyed the kill and the superiority. So with that combined with her going off the deep end and then spending most of her slayer years behind bars not fighting the forces against evil while Buffy literally dies to save not only the world but the life of someone she holds dear to her, she probably acknowledges the fact that while both Buffy and her were active at the same time, Buffy was the one who accepted her calling for what it was meant to be and the one who actually served as the Slayer.

I think it's mostly just Faith letting go of her grudge and realizing how much weight Buffy had on her shoulders for the last 7 years, and how Buffy always cut herself off from everyone. Faith even says that earlier in that episode, she knows what it's like to be in Buffy's shoes at least somewhat.
