Rewatching the 7th season of Buffy, I noticed this scene in the Watcher's Council HQ. We know from the Wishverse and from Chosen that there's a second Hellmouth in Cleveland, but we never heard anything explicit about any other Hellmouths on the planet. It seems like popular opinion has always been that they were the only two... Well, I found this bit from the 7th Season episode Never Leave Me, I believe. Quentin Travers is standing in front of a world map with squares around a number of regions on it... img808.imageshack.us/i/hellmouth1.jpg/img808.imageshack.us/i/hellmouth2.jpg/img808.imageshack.us/i/hellmouth3.jpg/img808.imageshack.us/i/hellmouth4.jpg/Seeing that there are squares around the Southern California and Ohio areas, it might be safe to say that each one represents one of the planet's hellmouths. If I know my geography, this means that the planet's hellmouths are in the following locations. Northeast Russia (Tunguska, perhaps? Makes sense that a Quellor demon may be drawn there) Indonesia Scandanavia Israel Greece Central Europe Britain Florida/Georgia Cleveland and formerly Sunnydale So yeah, hopefully interesting Easter Egg. Maybe. Edit: I suck at linking pictures...

I always assumed there were many, which would explain why slayers were called all over the world rather than just around the Sunnydale area.

Interesting thoughts. Might not be Hellmouths in specific, just areas with a lot of supernatural activity. Could be hellmouths, like with SunnyD and Cleveland, but maybe they're just marking different areas? Like for example, in a certain area people are constantly getting attacked by witches. I would guess that it's areas where the First may attack though, considering they were planning to mobilize against The First. Maybe they were trying to figure out where The First had it's armys/power? The hellmouth might have been a breeding ground for turok hans because of the hellmouth's energy (been a while since I watched season 7, is it mentioned?). Maybe the other areas was deemed likely to have something to do with The First. Btw, the area marked over nothern Europe seem to focus over Finland and the countries right beneath, with two scandinavian countries just within "the box" (Sweden and Norway) to the left. Yes, it doesn't really add to the discussion, I just feel like being The Corrector, lol. I always assumed there were many, which would explain why slayers were called all over the world rather than just around the Sunnydale area. Called? Do you mean drawned or stationed by the council? It seems like Buffy being on the hellmouth was simply due to Buffy being admitted to that high school because no one else would have her, but it might have been the Council's mainpulating.

@ Skymommy-I always thought Buffy was sent to Sunnydale "For a Reason", and it wasn't by chance. Giles was already stationed there when she arrived, and he knew she was coming.

^^ Sent by who? How?
Giles could simply have known she was moving there through the Council's contacts, or stalking. Could be chance. Probably the Council wanting here there though and making sure she wouldn't be accepted in any other school.

OK you are making me really think about this now, and I realized that i don't have a good answer! Clearly the council was watching her so they would know where she was going. Whistler was watching her too though. I just get a strong sense that Buffy was destined to go to Sunnydale.

I always thought that Buffy was sent to Sunnydale as it was her destiny to be there, which is why Giles was waiting for her as he had also been sent there to be her watcher. But then I think how would that have happened? How could it have been arranged, but then the Council had so much power that nobody really knew about and maybe they did work it so that that was the only school that would take her...
Nice work with the maps Sky, its really interesting to see. There is one in Britain huh, I wonder where abouts? I had best get my scoobies together just in case!!

Buffy was sent to Sunnydale by the watcher's counsel without her knowing it. Sunnydale High was the only school that would take her in after what she did in LA.

^^ Is this mentioned in issue 36-38 of Season 8? I wasn't aware The Council had anything to do with it (I thought it was a possibility they had made sure she applied there, but not that it's stated).
And it was the only "decent" school that would take her in, to be specific.

JOYCE: "Your own thing, whatever it is, got you kicked out of school, and we had to move here to find a decent school that would take you!" Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, because public schools don't have the option of "refusing to take" a student who lives in their district, but that's another matter...

It's been a while since I watched this scene. What are they talking about while they are in front of the map?
