What happened with this? I haven't had chance to catch up on the news (which I know I could do now instead of being on here, but this is more fun).

This isn't an "alien" bacteria. This is the proof to support the theory that a planet doesn't have to be hospitable to Humans for it to contain life forms. Scientists have theorized this for many years, however they couldn't find any life forms on Earth that could support this. Now that they have, it opens up a whole new set of questions. More then likely when we do fine alien life (and I say do because it is just stupid to think that in the vastness that is the universe we are the only planet with living creatures,) it will be some kind of bacteria. Thank you for sharing this link. Though it is amazing how conspiracy theorist have already jumped on the wagon, simply because they can't understand what is actually going on.

^ Well said.
I read this news a couple days ago, I'm really excited to hear more about it. I'm a huge nerd when it comes to things like this.

^^ Thank you Jaz, I was afraid I was going to offend someone... I am also a science minded person. Finally scientists can get some grants to further research this subject. Though I do wish that we would focus less on space, and more about what is going on here on Earth. We know more about what is going on in space then we do about our oceans. But of course to study the oceans we will have to build something that can survive crush depth...

I have a friend that's a Biology major so she and her classmates have been going nuts about this all week. It will be interesting to see how this develops over the years. Learning that alien life (or life on Earth) could potentially exist without phosphorous is just really excited stuff.
