The best movie, imo, is the Order and Prisioner. They had the best directions and really neat scripts, even though you can't get more faithful scripts than the first couple movies...
But for the books, my personal favorite is The Deathly Hollows. Even though the epilogue was a bad, unecessary fan-fictiony cheesy kinda thing, the book as a whole was a-fraking-mazing. The plot, the twists, the pacing, the character development, the pay-offs, the big damn war at the end and the big revelation about Dumbledore's masterplan for Harry... it was everything I hoped for! It was a good conclusion as much as Buffy's!!
But since there is no 7 here, I voted for Order of the Phoenix, the book where the Potterverse went dark and scary and mature, without losing the fabulous delight of it. The one thing I hated was the fight sequence at the end (before Sirus' death), where JK Rowling put too much comedy in it and it sounded more like kid's play than a life-or-death situation (not the time to make the book a little lighter). The movie fixed it, though, and I had that sequence the way I wanted!

I would have to say books 5 and 7 are my very favorites.
I was not as big a fan of book 3. It had many boring parts in my opinion.

Half Blood Prince all the way! Harry gets over his major moody phase, and the world is really at war. it's awesome.

I agree HBP! Although Deathly hallows is my fave out of them all! I think they were all an improvement from the last... cept may GOF which had some really large uncharacteric plot holes

DH i actually didn't love as much. Don't get me wrong, i adore every moment of the HP series, but i always laugh at avatars that say "The real title for Deathly Hallows: Harry Potter and the Prolonged Camping Trip"

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the best out of all Harry Potter books. Not to brag, but, when my grandma got me and my sister Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for our birthday, I screamed (they were outside on our front door porch) and ran inside. I then MEDIATELY ran to the living room, sat down, and read. I finished the book in two days!
By the way, this is off topic, but, I am getting a laptop when my dad's taxes are settled! Then I will be posting so much, like all the time. I can post on planes, at my friends! The best movie, so far, that is out, is the Order of the phoenix. Out of the first six books, the sixth is the best. The epilogue for the Deathly Hallows wasn't " a bad, unnecessary, fan-fictional, cheesy kinda thing," as quoted by Marcos.Damata, it was a awesome one, not what I predicted. I thought it would Harry and Hermione, and Ron and Luna (weirdly) or Lavender (that ended when I was reading the Half-Blood Prince, loll)
