With Buffy it's generally pretty easy to just give it to Whedon, but on Angel his writing was not necessarily always the tops. It may just be that he didn't really write that many episodes over the series' run but Tim Minear and Jeff Bell's episodes were the ones that upon rewatching the series, really stick with me. Minear especially wrote so many of the shows high points but that's just a personal favourite, how does everyone else weigh in? Was there anyone I really forgot? I tried to narrow it down to just the writers with the most episodes under their belts.

Angel really had some excellent writers, but I have to go with Joss Whedon on this one, for the simple fact that all of my top 5 favorite Angel episodes were written by him.
1. Spin the Bottle 2. A Hole in the World 3. Smile Time (co-Written with Ben Edlund) 4. Not Fade Away (co-Written with Jeffrey Bell) 5. Waiting in the Wings
I love all of those writers though.

I went with Greenwalt. He was the showrunner for the first 3 seasons, and I always felt he "got" the show better than anyone, even including Joss. Season 4 really suffered when he left to work on his own show. And though I'd put Joss--and probably Minear--ahead of her, too, honorable mention to Mere Smith. I always loved her episodes, and wish she'd stuck around that final season (she left "Angel" to work on "Tarzan"? Yikes ) instead of Fain&Craft.

I can't choose just one, they were all great, but my favorites are Joss, David Fury, Steven S. DeKnight (WAY better on Angel than on Buffy) and Mere Smith.

My vote goes to Steve DeKnight. He was the underdog on Buffy, but really proved himself on Angel. Deep Down, Apocalypse Nowish, Shells, Damage... some of my favorite episodes.

Ben Edlund is my fave. Steven S. DeKnight is also a good one. Joss is always in the top 5 but Edlund's got my number 1 pick.

Joss. Smiletime, A Hole in the World, Spin the Bottle were some of my favorites.
Mere Smith is awesome tho, she's done Rome and Burn Notice. Burn Notice rocks and is back this summer hopefully!

You probably shouldn't have listed Joss. It's a given he's going to win this thing. I voted for him, too, but I would have liked to give some props to Tim Minear or David Fury, instead.

Tim Minear for me. I love all those episodes except for 2 or 3 of them (and I still enjoy those). Whedon's work on Angel is pretty overrated imo.

I would have liked to give some props to Tim Minear or David Fury, instead. Maybe you should have then. I think all of the listed writers are amazing, although I think Mere Smith is out her league against that competition.

She's a bit of our her league sure, but it was the writers with the most episodes under her belt. Honestly, as good as Whedon's episodes are, I just love some of the other writers' work more, Minear, Jeff Bell, Steven S. Deknight.... Excellent writing.
