I dont know how many people live in california here, but Prop 8 (prop 102 in arizona) is an important issue we all have to deal with again.
AGAIN the politicians want equality for some, not all.
Arizona had just voted no on banning gay marriage and so they brought it up again this year. All over phoenix we have "yes for marriage" signs (which is misleading for those who dont know what the proposition is) and the commercials....are just wrong
If you have a ban gay marriage proposition in your state, realize the discrimination being put on the table.

My favorite bit were the commercials... including my personal favorite, a commercial using CHILDREN! Frak-ers! Seriously... how wrong is exploiting children to further a cause that they probably have the vaguest understanding of anyway? The ad in question included a boy saying: "If I have two daddies, who will be my mommy?" or something to that effect. It made me almost consider maiming the parties responsible... there were certain people I couldn't look in the eye for a while... including some friends.

my mom dated a woman when I was younger and one time I did ask "is she my mom now?" and my mom cleared it up for me
"no. I'm your mom" lol
Now if they were to have gotten married it would've still been "no!". If I were adopted it would be a different story. Kids arent mentally retarded!! they understand where babies come from, including them. They understand all the interesting ways women can get pregnant. And they understand what parents are. Theres no gender specificity when it comes to lover parents. I grew up with no dad and I'm fine. I'm still a member of society.
Its such a personal thing for the government to get into. Unless they know every name and person in this country, they have no right to come into the home. In my opinion anyway.

I agree. My grandmother is a lesbian. She loves her partner very much, and so does our whole family. My brother is also gay. I have many bisexual family memebers. If someone is happy, they should let them be. The reason gay people want to married is to be able to have the benefits, especially if they were to pass on. Most gay people say that they don't need a piece of paper to tell them how they feel. And that is true, but they deserve the benefits.

I wish Prop 8 could've turned out differently. I was out there protesting so hard and to have it lose because of the possibility of confusion? Let me explain: Yes on prop 8 meant no on gay marriage and vice-versa. To this day, even I get confused! Many of my other Californian friends got this mixed up too, so obviously, many of the voters were probably mixed up as well. Prop 8 only won by 2 percent, and I can't help but think that maybe that was because of the duplicity and confusion about the Proposition.

Probably. I'm sure they did that on purpose. Just to confuse voters. It's ridiculous.

Weird that this was bumped up as the same thing is happening in Maine right this instant. 60% of the votes have been counted with 51% voting against gay marriage and the gap is widening. Looks like we will be another California. Voted for the first time today too. This is infuriating.

They put this stuff in when young people don't vote, and hence the voting population is skewed to older, more conservative voters. Young people should vote every time, no matter what!! Washington is voting on a Referendum to approve state legislation for Domestic Partnerships. I personally support Gay Marriage, but whatever, I didn't vote against it. Go Gay People!!!

I never really thought about the year thing, interesting. Makes sense. The rural areas are definitely playing a major part. More cities/towns are voting to keep gay marriage equal than repealing it, but the percentage for the rural areas are just crazy high, like 80%.

I already voted no on prop 8 the first time, wth man? I'm voting no again. Why not just let people be happy and entitled to their rights as a human being? Whatever, Cali. What. Ever.

I don't even know if they have a bill like that in Pennsylvania. I'm not yet voting age, so I guess it doesn't matter much. I just don't understand what the big deal is. I eat lunch with a girl who is totally homophobic, but I just don't get how it even affects her. Every other day she tells me about how she's really opposed to gay marriage and homosexuality in general, and I'm just amazed that in this day and age people are still so intolerant. (Not to offend anyone who is against it)
I figure, the states will do their legislating, but Congress will eventually end up making a nation-wide decision. And probably (hopefully) if they ban it, it will go to the Supreme Court and it will be deemed unconstitutional to ban it.
