Willow and Buffy head to New York City to unlock the secrets of Buffy's mysterious scythe, when something goes terribly awry. Buffy is propelled into a dystopian future where there's only one Slayer--Fray, the title character of Joss Whedon's 2001 series, the first comic he ever wrote. Their uneasy alliance falls apart, leading to the death of a major character from the TV series, while back in the twenty-first century, the Scotland base falls prey to a mystical bomb courtesy of the Biggest Bad--Twilight. - The first two volumes of Buffy Season Eight have combined to sell over 160,000 copies!
- Includes the highly anticipated Buffy/Fray crossover, "Time of Your Life," and "After These Messages . . . We'll Be Right Back," written by Jeph Loeb (Batman: The Long Halloween)!

I think it's most likely that Fray & Buffy will be on the cover. Maybe Willow.
Perhaps Fray&Buffy are standing back to back, like on that George Jeanty cover, and Willow is lurking in the background. Hopefully, Xander & Dawn will be there too. Willow can look suspicious on one side and Xander & Dawn on the other, and in the front, Fray & Buffy.

I Don’t care what the TPB looks like at the moment, I just want the last issue before worrying about the compilation

I think a cool visual for the cover would have Buffy and Fray on opposite sides, facing each other, with Dark Willow in the middle, facing the front (maybe looking down, her hands doing some sort of magic mojo). Not sure what else would be going on, but that would certainly look cool.

I think that'd be really cool but I think it'd be way to spoilery considering the big thing that happens this arc is the Dark Willow return halfway through.

Modified thread title to permit spoiler discussion/speculation on this thread.
My guess is that it's Willow. Like, Willow.
If you look at the plans for upcoming episodes, Willow is unaccounted for in any of the upcoming arc of standalones. What's more, we have been told that the one shots deal with reaction to the major event -- we've taken it as given that this means the upcoming major change in 8.21. But wouldn't it also be a non-descript way to to describe the death of a major character?
It's Buffy's books. Kennedy is already on cover art, and plus "major" would sound like a stretch. Giles and Faith haven't been in the arc at all, so it would be really awkward. Xander and Dawn are in the (relatively) lighter "B" plot.
I *hope* it's FDW, but I'm not taking that as a given just because it is obvious and safe, and this is Joss. I'm going to say Willow or FDW is the likeliest by far, with reason to worry about Xander and Dawn. But, since we've had a few spoilers about Xander from Jeanty, and we know that they have an issue in the arc of one-shots planned, I tend to think they are safe.

I must have missed them. Eh yeah so I'm guessing that it is FDW or Roween or Leah. The core four are safe in the comics. If they were'nt killed off on the show, they aren't going to be kileld off in the comics....then again it is Joss so I suppose we can never be 100% certain.

The reference is to a "major character from the TV series", so you can forget the Alpha Team, Vi, or Kennedy. The spoiler about Xander from Jeanty was that he'd be "hooking up" with someone in the future, he didn't say who or for how long.

I'm sorry, but if Willow dies...or if Buffy dies... I might just stop reading... I hate to say it, because I am truly in love with the comics.. But basically...if either of those two die, so does my passion for these comics.. DX

I think that it's going to be Future Dark Willow that gets it. By the hand of either Buffy herself, or Fray. Maybe that is why Saga wishes that Willow doesn't "look", she may just see her dead future self!
I doubt that he'd kill present day Willow right now, or ever for that matter.

I wouldn't be surprised if Willow dies. I also wouldn't be surprised if she didn't, it could be a psyche-out, with her not appearing on the covers.
I'm pretty sure Joss said the core 3 were safe though.
but let's think in terms of major characters we've got
Buffy (Most likely won't die, is already confirmed to still be a major player in the series) Xander (Same goes with Xander) Willow (Possiblly, considering she doesn't appear in issues 20-the whole next arc) Giles (has already been confirmed to appear arc) Faith (has already been confirmed to appear arc) Dawn (has already been confirmed to appear arc) Less Major, But Still Worth Mentioning (Remember the solicitation for issue 14? they describes Renee's death as a "Major Loss") Kennedy (has already been confirmed to appear arc) Violet (Less major, but the whole thing with Renee's loss seems like it would be the same instance. I could see it happening.) Satsu (has already been confirmed to appear arc) Amy (She's a major character in S8, Joss could kill her) Warren (Again, major player for the comic season, Would give Amy more motivation to go against the Scoobies (Not that she needs it).
So, out of all the major characters, we've got: Willow Violet Kennedy Amy Warren Hmm, am i missing anyone?

I'd bet serious cash that it's FDW.
And I have a pretty solid reasoning for why it isn't present-day Willow: Issue 22. Kennedy goes to review Satsu. You don't think there'd be something about her grieving? At all? Maybe I'm wrong, and it IS in the issue, just not the solicitation but I kind of doubt it. Buffy's gotten dark, but I don't think she'd be outright cold to Kennedy. Especially when both of them just lost the same unimaginably significant person in their lives.
Killing Willow doesn't instantly remove her from the story either. Could be Joss's way of tying her back to Tara. It also gets rid of the Deux ex Machina sort of play she could be used for given her power boost. I really can't imagine Will's getting the axe given everything that's gone on so far. There's too much surrounding her story right now to cut it off.
The only catch to it being FDW that dies is that....was she really a "major character from the series"? I mean yea, it's Willow, but this is obviously a very different Willow than we've ever seen.

I guess it's Future Dark Willow. Please don't let this series turn into Season 3 of Heroes...

This spoiler just pisses me off. It was nearly impossible to avoid this and considering we still have nearly a month more to wait for #19 to be released, I decided to bite the bullet.
As for the term "major", who's responsible for writing this product description? Maybe they're as inept at describing the importance of the character as Amazon was when they spoiled the conclusion of this unreleased issue. *extremely mocking and sarcastic slow clap* Way to go guys.
Still, I'm not reading too much into this. Maybe the clue is on-target and if so, then Future Darkish Willow gets my vote. Maybe it's not... All I can say is this "major" death spoiler partnered with the issue delay isn't helping my enthusiasm for the series. I'm really feeling the love for IDW and Lynch's After the Fall pieces right now. Pssst, Spike: AtF... I <3 you.

If it's Willow who will turn the world dark in the future.... and if Willow knows this after Buffy's trip to the future...
Maybe she'll kill herself???
