I don't know if I'd call it really solid. Certainly more consistent than Season Three, but until last week's episode, it seemed like they spend five or six episodes just sending characters to different places to do random things with no real story significance.

I never noticed. The motivations for each character are really built-in that I didn't even really think about where they were going. The character stories have certainly been a lot better since Villains aka the "reboot" volume.

Why "reboot"? I haven´t watched season two and three, so why was villains a reboot. No offense, just curious.

Why "reboot"? I haven´t watched season two and three, so why was villains a reboot. No offense, just curious. That's what the writers called it, that's what it was. A very literal and metaphorical reboot for the major characters. Mohinder gets powers but suffers consequences, finally ending his curiosity into his father's research; Sylar is fooled into thinking he's a Petrelli, Peter and Nathan have a thing, and it all really just builds up to the Eclipse near the end of the volume during which everybody's powers go wonky/quit working. Peter can now take only one power, and Sylar gets Claire's ability but doesn't kill her - but he uses empathy to get Elle's ability and then kills her.
Basically, the idea was to distance the show from Volume Two as much as possible, because, thanks to the strike, it was a complete disaster. It requires great leaps of faith and logic in order to accept it, because it isn't what the writers had in mind going into Volume Three. Volume Four is really a new beginning, as most of the story/character elements from that volume have carried over to some degree into Volume Five. Obvious example: Sylar's character development.
Of course, that didn't help ratings at all. Volume Two was so bad people stopped watching after that, and the show's been in the muck ever since. Ironically, Chuck, which was the show leading into Heroes, started with mediocre ratings, but thanks to the combined fan efforts and boost from being Heroes' lead-in, the show is now a modest ratings success against House and CBS's comedy night, while Heroes is suffocating (this week's episode got a meager 4.4 mil viewers, a sad comparison to Volume/Season Two's average of 11 million and the 15+ million who watched Season One). Anyway. I enjoyed this week's episode, although I understand why some people would not have enjoyed it so much. It suffers from "penultimate episode syndrome" where most storylines were sort of "stalled" until the big finish coming next week. The only real progress I felt was made was in the Peter/Sylar story. Really, Sylar's had the best story of the season; if there's anybody who's got a big question mark where redemption is concerned, it's him, and I think they've handled him very well this season. Also, Claire and Noah getting buried alive? Not good. ![:(](http://premium1.uploadit.org/Flipsidephilly/emotes/sad.gif)

^^ I liked the episode. And yes, the Peter/Sylar arc was the best of this ep....it was very convenient for the writers to have time differences in the mind-world and the real world. It was hinted that an hour was like a year to them. My personal guess is that they've been there over 10 years. And as you said that this episode had the "penultimate episode syndrome", I think it so would have been nice to see way more Peter/Sylar bonding scenes, ya know? Heck, the other storylines weren't going anywhere and Peter-not-hating-Sylar anymore and Sylar-character-developement-to-good-arc are very important to see IMO. Samuel's character this ep turned into a complete fail. I hate him. At first I was intrigued by him and what would be his grand plan, but now that I know...meh, it's such a typical villain thing to do. Hey Sylar, go slay him already!! I'm stoked about the next episode! I was hoping to see Tracy in this one but no-show

Ali Larter is credited in the finale. It'd be silly not to have everybody there for the end. ![:)](http://premium1.uploadit.org/Flipsidephilly/emotes/smile.gif) Remember, Lauren called her after the incident with the snipers. She'll probably get there just as Sylar and Peter do.

I wish the Peter/Sylar stuff had been given the entire episode (and the season extended by one episode, for the Carnie stuff). I like where Sylar's character is heading (as long as he isn't good for a few episodes and reverts back to a psycho, which has been done enough already), but I feel his repentance would have been more believable if we could have seen the passage of time more. They were in Sylar's hell for a decade, if not more, and I think it would have been really cool to see that affect them more throughout the episode.
I still believe that Sylar is genuine, but devoting a whole episode to that Hell could have been something special, I think.

Totally agree, Wyndam and everybody. A whole episode of Peter/Sylar (with maybe a small B-story) would have been awesome.

Well... that was Redemption.
Holy @!&% that was Redemption.
I LOVE this season finale. And the epilogue/beginning of Brave New World? Wow. Just wow. I hope they don't cancel this show! One more season! One more season! Encore! Encore!

A good end to a flawed season. Definitely their best season since the second, but damn... the writers are so inconsistent. They seem to have no idea what to do with the characters or plots. Here's a list of my ideas on how to save the show. Because holy wow, it still needs the most saving. www.stinkyburgerproductions.com/reviews/how-to-fix-heroes/

The finale was pretty good. I was really scared for Noah there, and although using Tracey as a Deux Ex Machina was lame, Noah survived so yay. Since Nathan is dead (of which I am still unhappy about), Noah is the show's best character, so I am happy he is still around.
The ending was interesting. I understand why Claire did what she did...but this isn't going to go well. I wish she would stop doing the opposite of everything Noah says. Noah isn't perfect...but he understands how things work. The "she's breaking my heart" callback to Season 1 was great though.
It will be interesting to see what they do for the next (and hopefully final) season.

Loved the episode and the ending was great. It will open up the world of Heroes and hopefully they will just go full on X-Men with it and have humans completely fear and hate the specials. Let's get some great storytelling finally!!
Stop limiting Hiro's ability, keep Sylar good, bring back Mohinder, Monica Dawson and Micah, and focus on what is important: character development and plot driven seasonal arcs. I also think we haven't seen the last of Samuel, he's like the Magneto of the show. I want to see a new Big Bad, let's have Angela's crazy sister return to cause some havoc.

I was pretty much "meh" on the season finale. I really really really wanted Eli, Doyle, and Samuel to die. I hated how little airtime Tracy got. I think Charlie's character had a fitting end since Jayma Mays will be busy with Glee. I do agree that Peter and Sylar should have had an episode mainly about their time in "Hell" to give a feel that Sylar truly wants to redeem himself for his past crimes. It just seemed too rushed. Uh oh. Claire just opened a big old can of worms. Its going to be the beginning of season four all over again. The news of evolved humans will stir up trouble and have another team go after them. Their blood is on Claire's hands. I'm so glad Edgar didn't fall for Samuel's bull.
