I really liked this week's episode. I have never watched a single episode of season one or two so it was a first time seeing Charlie, Isaac, and Eden. This episode made me change my view on Hire. I actually sort of like him now.

I actually sort of like him now. I think that's sort of the prevailing attitude about Hiro right now. A lot of people have been annoyed by him since the beginning, but this season he's got a really good character arc going on. Normally during Hiro scenes I'd turn off my analytical brain and just let the subtitles fly by, but this season I just can't get enough of him. I'm missing my Ando fix though. He's awesome!

Sooo you definitely need to check it out. PS. I still dislike Hiro. He should know that 'stepping on butterflies' would lead to no good.

I am enjoying the heck out of this season. I never thought I'd say that about this show again.
I am getting depressed that Nathan's days are numbered though. I really wish he could stay on the show, especially since Adrian Pasdar has been doing some excellent work this season. Once he is gone for good though, I'm really going to be bummed.
Samuel is such a great villain too, easily the best since Season 1 Sylar.

The Jekyll/Hyde thing in Peter's apartment was just too good; I was enraptured! I'm really curious as to what this volume's plot arc hinges on. Is it, perhaps, the visit to Texas from last volume? Nathan said in this episode "Shoulda never gone to Texas, Pete" and Mohinder pulls up an old film reel from his father during that time period. And of course there's the connection to the carnvial via Samuel. It's all just really intriguing.

on Claire's story arc, i was so frustrated that she took the dumb compass and had Gretchen come with....she needs to just go back to college and have a normal college lesbian life with Gretch...but this is tv and so i have this knowing knot in my stomach that this is how Gretchen is gonna get written off...by getting killed or some other reason that has her leaving for good. but i can hope and disregard all my instincts and believe that Claire and Gretchen will live happily ever after and and adopt 8 kids.... guess we'll have to wait and see....

Yeah, I've really enjoyed Claire's storyline to date but I'm not sure what it has to do with the carnival or anything. She doesn't even have anything she wants/needs to be redeemed for, so she's out of place with the theme of Redemption of this volume. We'll see, though.

Does anybody know if Mohinder will come back or is his story over with being caught in a mental institution Pretty sure his story isn't over yet. The volume is called Redemption and, for the first time since Genesis, the mid-season finale was not also the volume finale. Samuel's got much grander plans, as I initially thought, but he's playing the anti-villain card really well here. It was really sad to see Nathan die... at last (since Angela cheated and made Sylar into Nathan, so he wasn't really dead until now); I loved the symbolism all throughout the Peter/Nathan-Sylar scenes. Actually, Peter's had an interesting first half; it starts with him being the superhero nurse, then he saves (so to speak) Emma and teaches her about abilities, and then he's powerless to save his own brother at long last. I also wonder how Claire's story will start to vary now that she's in the carnival; so far she's just been a pendulum of "I want a normal life" to "I want to be a freak!" but clearly life in the carnival is not easy or simple by any stretch of the imagination. I'm in love with Lydia. <3 So, the theme (at least if we're gonna go by the Volume title) is Redemption; I wonder what Claire has to redeem for? Everybody else has pretty clear motives for redemption - Noah and his past at PrimaTech, Mohinder's continued obsession with his father's research, Hiro messing with time too much (he's already suffering the consequences... he's dying!), etc etc. ...MAN I love this volume. Everything that made Heroes good in the first season is all coming back. It's good that they've finally found a balance in storytelling with the ensemble - notice that Mohinder's role thus far has been minor (though important of course), as has Noah's and Tracy's, but they'll probably get more screen time in the second half. Plus, Heroes and Chuck, back together again? Pfft, what's House? I'd rather watch NBC Mondays!

"The Fifth Stage" ep was really good. I'm really sad to see Nathan go but i think the writers did a great job on finishing his story arc and i agree with HH on loving the Peter/Nathan-Sylar scenes. I also loved that they brought Peter and Nathan back to the same rooftop from the beginning...that whole scene was just great.
Claire's story arc is definitely the 'odd one out' from this whole "Redemption" volume...so i think we're gonna see her character just go along with the ride so to speak....and as usual being the one in danger especially now that she's falling for Samuel's villiany plan.
Also, i kinda got confused at the end when Samuel is talking to Lydia about who's he really after....is it Gretchen?? or am i reading way into that scene? cuz apparently it's not Claire.

I read it as "it's not her I want, it's her power". But I might be wrong. After all, we now know Samuel is the one that killed Joseph, his brother. He's got to redeem too, but he's probably going to go about it in a bad way. Hence my use of the term "anti-villain". He's by far one of my top favorite characters ever now.

He's by far one of my top favorite characters ever now. oh ok!....that makes way more sense lol I'm still very curious as to what exactly is his overall plan for all the people with powers....is he going to be the next Sylar and take all of the powers for himself? Would that then mean him killing them all? He's definitely playing the anti-villian as you termed him, but it looks like he at some times care about the others and just want to keep them safe and he would never harm them....but then he kills his brother cold-blooded. He's really good with words and persuasion so maybe he's trying to 'brain-wash' them all to believe what's good for them and use them and their powers to his disposal....which he technically is already doing...but whats his master plan for them all?? and he has major confidence in himself if he thinks he can persuade them and keep them all devoted to him especially now that Lydia knows he murdered his brother...and that other guy that got framed for the murder (i forgot his name)....so i'm guessing not being able to control them all is what's going to be his downfall. anyways i'm loving this season, can't wait for the next ep!

I honestly don't think there is anything good about Samuel. Everything he has done so far has been to further his own plans, including gathering and protecting his so-called family.

I honestly don't think there is anything good about Samuel. Everything he has done so far has been to further his own plans, including gathering and protecting his so-called family. I believe his feelings about family are genuine, even if his final plans are totally evil. AND here's the listing for the back-to-back episodes that trumpet Heroes return to TV on January 4th! "HEROES"
"UPON THIS ROCK/LET IT BLEED"
01/04/2010 (08:00PM - 10:00PM) (Monday) : "HEROES" RETURNS WITH A SPECIAL TWO-HOUR EPISODE - THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS INTENSIFIES AS FINAL RESPECTS ARE PAID TO A FALLEN HERO - RAY PARK, DAWN OLIVIERI, DAVID H. LAWRENCE XVII AND ELISABETH ROHM GUEST STAR - As Claire (Hayden Panettiere) becomes immersed into the world of the Carnival, she becomes increasingly suspicious of Samuels (Robert Knepper) motives. Hiro (Masi Oka) is on a mission to rescue one of his own, but has difficulty communicating his intentions to Ando (James Kyson Lee). Samuel has his sight set on Emma (guest star Deanne Bray) and her ability to complete his master plan. Meanwhile, Sylar (Zachary Quinto) returns to the Carnival in search of answers and Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) continues to struggle with the loss of his brother. Elsewhere, H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) sets his plan in motion to take down the carnival. Cristine Rose also stars. Todd Stashwick, Saemi Nakamura, Sasha Pieterse and Dawn Lyen Gardner also guest star. My reaction: Emma has a role in the bigger plot - YES!

So the pace keeps getting faster. I enjoy that.
Yeah, Emma definitely deserves to be more prominent on the show.
Maybe this is out of context, but does anybody know why Tim Kring used the image of crucifixion when Peter was overpowering him in "The Fifth Stage". I don´t really get, why he picked that image.

Dunno, it is a bit weird. Maybe it'll make sense later though. It was either carefully planted or carelessly used.

Special Sylar promo for the two-hour event on January 4th. blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/12/heroes-promo-sylar-isnt-puzzled-are-you.htmlI LOVE IT! Can't wait! ETA (December 28, 2009): Listing for the 14th episode, airing January 11th at its first timeslot, 9/8c. Reason? Chuck and Heroes are tag-teaming again. NBC Mondays are back to normal. "HEROES"
"CLOSE TO YOU"
01/11/2010 (09:00PM - 10:00PM) (Monday) : H.R.G. EXPOSES SAMUEL'S GREATEST WEAKNESS IN AN EFFORT TO STOP HIM - LISA LACKEY, DAWN OLIVIERI AND ELISABETH ROHM GUEST STAR - H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) recruits Matt (Greg Grunberg) to help him take down Samuel (Robert Knepper), as they use his long-lost love, Vanessa (guest star Kate Vernon), to lure him to them, but Samuel has his own plans for Vanessa in the works. Meanwhile, Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) go to extreme lengths to save Dr. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy). Elsewhere, Peter's (Milo Ventimiglia) introduction of Emma (guest star Deanne Bray) to his mother (Cristine Rose) brings forth visions of a very grim future. Hayden Panettiere also stars. Todd Stashwick and Sasha Pieterse also guest star. And my thoughts: Samuel's smart. He's even got a plan for HRG's plan. Battle of wits! I wonder what "extreme lengths" Hiro and Ando will go through to save Mohinder. And OMG EMMA HAS GRIM FUTURE?!?!

Double-post (because I feel like I'm talking to myself here ). Tonight was the return. And holy crap what a return. Sylar's back but he can't kill, Lydia's opposition to Samuel is growing, and it's becoming apparent that Samuel's obsession with his lost love is destroying his family. So sad for Emma! I don't want her to be an instrument of destruction. And poor Claire, only just finding out about Nathan. This season seems to have been more planned out than initially thought - the very first image of the show was Samuel burying Joseph, and now at the halfway point we get Peter burying Nathan. Though their speeches came from completely different places, of course. And serious lulz @ Claire being Facebook friends with West. Season Two? What's that? Some kind of disease? (I did like his inclusion via non-inclusion though. Nearly cried. <3)

You´re not alone You pointed out the burying image very well. I haven´t realized that at first place. I hope all the rumours circulating right now are wrong, that this season ends with an open end, because I´m afraid heroes is not getting renewed.
