Not much time, I'd guess, since Kennedy says something to the effect that Satsu's only been in command for a short time, hence the performance review. Satsu's comeback that if Buffy wanted to review her ass, she could do it herself made me lol.

hence the performance review. Satsu's comeback that if Buffy wanted to review her ass, she could do it herself made me lol. I lol'd too. But thinking about it now, Satsu's attitude (while understandable) is a good indicator of how Buffy mixing business with pleasure might have some repercussions. I know that it's not as strict, but Satsu's attitude is near insubordination there. Griping that "the other lesbian" was sent to review her. If she'd never slept with Buffy, Satsu wouldn't be acting this way. So clearly her grapes have gone sour. Not an ideal working relationship where Satsu reports back to Buffy and is apparently being "vague".

Wow, very good preview. Got me excited for this next issue. Good writing too. And I'm not surprised at all, when you're genuinely in love with someone you don't get over them over one night. It can take months, sometimes years... I expected Statsu to still be hung up on Buffy.

I really loved the flow of the preview. Compared to the last issue's preview (and even the issue itself) this seemed like a nice breath of air. I have to be honest, after the last issue I was a little skeptical about reading the upcoming issues, but after seeing the preview I was immediately re-excited to get back into the swing of Season 8 and I *hope* they can fix the awfulness that occurred in #21.
The writing in this issue looks to be the best so far. Hopefully its mostly Satsu/Kennedy dialogue because they seem to work off each other really well.

Didn't Satsu take the job so that she could not be around Buffy anymore? So why is she mad that Kennedy shows up instead of Buffy herself? Doesn't sound like she's over her to me.

As treasurer of the Satsu fan club, I'm maybe not the most objective, but I didn't see her as being whiny here at all. Defensive, yeah, but whiny? Uh-uh. At first she's defensive because she doesn't think Buffy and the others trust her slayer abilities, or her leadership abilities, since they've sent someone so soon (apparently) after her taking over to check up on her. Then she's defensive over who they chose to send. And finally she's defensive because she thinks Kennedy is making light of her feelings toward Buffy (pretty much the same reaction she had back in ABS). There's certainly no "Oh, why doesn't Buffy love me back?" stuff in here. And while I'm sure Kennedy meant well, her little "facts of lesbian life" talk has already been demonstrated to be pretty unnecessary in Satsu's case, IMO. She showed both before and after the fact that she knew Buffy wasn't gay, and that she wasn't really expecting anything to come out of it. In fact, she might've been willing to keep her feelings for Buffy a secret forever if Buffy hadn't confronted her over them. So there's no way Kennedy could've known that, most likely, but even so, you gotta figure Satsu would be at least a little resentful over having this stuff explained to her--especially with Kennedy's direct, blunt, not-too-tactful personality... Didn't mean I didn't love the scene, tho. I've been looking forward to this issue for quite awhile, and I'm even more excited about it now...

That's a fantastic preview, I'm more excited for this issue than Harmonic Divergence (even though I'm a big Harmony fan). The idea of these upcoming issues focusing on the supporting characters is great. I think Kennedy has been written very well so far in the series, she's still the same but a little more mature and has outgrown her mutinous attitude. Georges Jeanty impressed me with his depiction of Kennedy, the likeness was surprisingly good. I was also thinking, this is the first time Steven DeKnight has written for Kennedy, which is amazing considering the dialogue in this preview is the epitome of her character, honest and sassy without being annoying. So far I don't have the impession that Satsu has become "whiney", her position is not ideal, and who really likes Big Sister looking over your shoulder all the time?

Yeah I didn't think Satsu was being "whiny" either, but I'm also not at all surprised she still has feelings for Buffy. As others have pointed out, she was deeply in love with Buffy- breaking the spell proved that, they were after all the credentials. You don't just get over someone you're deeply in love with in a matter of weeks/months, it takes time.
What I am surprised about is how snappy Satsu was, I'd have expected to see her more down in the dumps and mopey, but it's not a complaint, it's just a surprise. But it sets up some very interesting layers to the Buffy/Satsu “relationship.” It appeared to end very well but it seems as if Satsu’s taking the separation harder than she’d suspected she would and has grown a little bitter about it. I can’t help but think that her “vauge” reports are either her way to get Buffy’s attention to know she’s hurt or to get piss Buffy off because she’s angry about the whole thing.
I really loved this preview, I thought the dialogue between both characters was absolutely superb. I enjoyed 'Harmonic Divergence' quite a lot but not as much as this, already I'm loving this more. I loved 'Harmonic Divergence' for the interesting and meaty themes and questions that it brought up, but I don't think Jane Espenson can translate her writing into the comic medium as well as De- Knight and other writers have managed, I wasn't hugely impressed with her script. This one flows much, much better.
And it was great to see Satsu again, I didn’t realise that I actually truly missed the character until I read this.

I really liked the conversation. Lol I like how they walk randomly on the top of a bridge as well.
I actually like Jeanty's Kennedy. It's better then Moline's. I think it matches her pretty well.

WOOOO! Everyone Buffy season 8 is back! Ihave no idea what happened with issue 21 but nobody panic, it's over now and we have issue 22 to look forward too. Good preview, good art, nice writing it's all back. Yeah! So Satsu seems a little ps$$ed at Buffy now. I wonder how it will all go down when they need to meet/work together again. It's more or less the same situation of sleeping with a work colleague and having to go back to work and see them again on the Monday.

I just have to give props to Steven S. DeKnight for this issue. I think everyone is agreeing that the writing is on pointe. I also recall that certain Dollhouse execs said DeKnight's script for episode 3 (or something like that) was the "Best script" they'd ever read. So yeah, DeKnight rocks.

Yeah, the writing is perfect in this preview. It's pure fun, classic Buffy-speak. I loved the breaking up of evaluation. The Buffyverse writers never seize to amaze me. And just randomly off-topic, that Dollhouse episode, The Target, is the episode I'm most excited for. I read the synopsis and my mouth dropped. Exciting stuff. I think DeKnight gets overlooked a lot.

I was VERY pleased with this preview because out of anything else we have seen this season, the writing in this preview is spot on and exactly how it was in the series.
The banter between the two is excellent and I was also please at how they expressed to the public that Buffy is NOT gay. Very smooth.

Amazing preview! I am very excited for this issue now, way more than I was over the covers (though the tribble thing is hella cute).
Um, am I the only one that thinks they might be pushing Kennedy and Satsu together? Don't get me wrong, I hate the idea, but in the preview I see some subtext there (haha, given my recent posting regarding seeing subtext when there isn't anything).
Anyway, it was the line where Kennedy said that Satsu should put away the cinnamon lip gloss and love someone who will return it. I kept expecting Satsu to turn to Kennedy and ask 'who would fit that description?' Perhaps it's because I don't want Willow with Kennedy anymore, but it seemed they were setting something up like that. Again, I feel I need to explicitly say that I don't want that to happen.

I don't really see the "bitter" thing any more than I see the "whiny" thing. The snippiness--okay, granted. But is she snippy over not being with Buffy? I read it much more along the lines of being ticked off at having her ability to lead her group doubted, and then of having Kennedy really sort of trivialize what she shared with Buffy. Satsu was accepting of the fact (before, during, and after) that it wasn't leading anywhere long-term, but like she told Buffy, they were two of the best nights of her life, and I'm sure she doesn't appreciate having someone come along and talk that way about them. Geez, she can't have Buffy, but at least let her have the fond memories without pissing all over them... Like I said, I'm sure Kennedy meant well--it's just that she doesn't really have the type of personality that's best-suited for conversations like these...

Joss has said its incredible. but I guess De-knight is off to take over his own show and start the ball rolling on that spartacus thingy hes got. But back onto buffy topic, as everyone has said its really great to have some spot-on character dialogue that actually flows. Im quite happy pretending issue 21 didnt actually happen.

I just finally got Issue 21 in the mail, and I just now read the #22 preview. Personally, I'm more curious about Kennedy's comment about wrinkling the sheets with a straight girl. I wonder if that's going to be explored later in the season. You can't just put something like that out there without even a smidgen of explanation.
I'm also eager to put #21 behind me, but not for the same reasons as most people. I understood the issue, I just didn't think it was very realistic for a vampire that could barely scratch Xander to be killing Slayers. My main peeve was Riley's appearance in #19 and still no follow-up two issues later, but I guess that's OT.

Funny preview. I liked the "the other lesbian slayer" line. One of my concerns about a Kennedy/Satsu issue was how contrived it was that the two lesbian Slayers of the Buffyverse would randomly team up despite having never even met. Nice to see they address that straight away and are actually establishing a fun rapport between the two.
Wow, Satsu's really grown up this season. She started out as a shy "yes, ma'am" subordinate who barely spoke and has since come out of her shell in a big way. I'm enjoying her Cordelia-esque blunt honesty, we saw a glimpse of it in "WatG" with the "dyke" line and now she's at it again.
