Scott Allie just released the title of this issue, "Safe", in our ongoing Q&A, so I thought I'd open up the original discussion thread for this issue. This issue features the return of Faith and Giles as written by Jim Krueger. Cliff Richards returns as guest artist for this one-shot. Cover(s): (click for HQ Chen cover) Written by Jim Krueger, penciled by Cliff Richards, inked by Andy Owens, colored by Michelle Madsen, covers by Jo Chen and Georges Jeanty.[/size] Faith. Giles. Let's catch up!
In a one-shot issue, Krueger fleshes out the go-to girl for dirty deeds, Faith, and her new partner, Giles. After her last thankless escapade, where she put a stop to Buffy-hunting Slayer and kindred spirit Lady Gigi, Faith decided that though she's determined to be finished with bloodshed, she's not ready to leave misguided Slayers (like Gigi) with nowhere to turn. Fast-forward to the present . . . bloodshed still abounds, and the Faith-and-Giles team is still finding out what it really means to help those chosen to slay . . .
40 pages, $2.99, in stores on April 1.

Yesss! Cliff Richards is my favorite Buffyverse artist!
: D : D : D
I'm excited. I hope there's some Willow in this issue, I think he does the best Willow.
Anyway, I think this arc may revive my faith in BtVs: S8. Here's hoping.

This issue cannot come soon enough, it will have been 16 months since Faith and Giles were last featured by the time this issue comes out! That's 16 months too long!
I'm still hoping to have a Faith/Giles issue or arc written by Doug Petrie. Hopefully Season Nine!
Although I am interested to see what Jim Kruger does with the characters, I've never read anything by him, so I'm curious to see what his writing style is like and how he adapts to these characters. Especially two characters that have such depth and resonance.
The title is great, did anyone think of the Firefly episode when they read the title? That's the first thing that came to my mind. I'm thrilled to have Cliff Richards back for another issue. He did great work with Faith in "Haunted" by Jane Espenson.
The first three covers for this arc have been the most impressive so far, in my opinion. They're all very dynamic, with great likeness and a vivid quality. I think the cover for #24, if it's anything like Jo Chen's covers featuring Faith like #6 or #9, will continue this trend of brilliant covers for this arc.
What does everyone think this issue will involve, Giles and Faith, with the title "Safe". Last thing we heard, they were both planning to help other Slayers in unfortunate situations, and as it appears Buffy will be dealing with Simone in #23, what does everyone think this issue will deal with?
I'm wondering if Giles stayed with his squad of Slayers that appeared to be under his command, or if he had them reassigned and has gone on a sabbatical with Faith. Also England or Cleveland?

Do you guys think we will have a cover for this one anytime soon? Should be sometime in the beginning of January. I'm excited! But I am nervous about the characters' safety. I would be very sad if either were killed off.

If they lay one hand on my Faith I swear to god -- I'm just kidding, lol. But I hope Faith lives, knowing Joss and how much he likes Eliza Dushku and the character Faith I'm betting she will live. I would seriously cry if Faith died. Giles is back!

I cannot wait! I will be counting down until we get to see the cover! I have been waiting for the two of them to return and I just hope that they're both safe, but I am very interested in what they did. Where did they go, what were their missions? Joss can't make Faith go away! She has to stay, always to show the opposite of Buffy, even if there are a lot more Slayers now...

The only reason I want Faith around is for the possibility that she will reconcile with Buffy. Other than that, it doesnt matter to me that much if she dies.

What does everyone think this issue will involve, Giles and Faith, with the title "Safe". Last thing we heard, they were both planning to help other Slayers in unfortunate situations, and as it appears Buffy will be dealing with Simone in #23, what does everyone think this issue will deal with? We may have to wait to see what happens to Harm in #21, but I'm guessing we'll see them in a sanctuary-like place where slayers can get rehab. The problem will be that such an organization/place will actually piss off all the vampire worshippers. They'll have to deal with trying to safe the wronged slayers from the slayer-haters, while not letting them harm anyone. So it'll be faith revisiting her dark days, when she decided to go to prison, not only for her safety from the council and W&H, but also so that she wouldn't hurt anyone, so that she'd be safe from herself and she could be redempted in a world than wanted and pushed her to destruction. It wouldn't surprise me if Giles and Faith developed deeper feelings for each other, wouldn't that be cool? Faith would be like Buffy's step-mother!! That'd be all sorts of lol. Though I kinda think Faith needs someone mature to settle down and Giles has been too alone and, well, cranky and old - a little bit like Dracula - in the 7th season and start of the 8th. Ooops! I forgot to ask about how you guys think these stand-alones are gonna work. Is everything supposed to happen at the same time? I'm asking that because "Safe" was supposed to be released before "Predators and Prey (issue)". I think that's vital to reconcile Buffy and Faith contrary visions: Buffy goes to kill Simone, while Faith is trying to save the black sheep. I think Giles and Faith wouldn't approve if Buffy finally killed her no matter what. Simone hasn't gone so far... yet.

I'd have a big problem with Dawn dying, though. I think it undercuts Buffy's sacrifice in The Gift if Dawn doesn't get to live a long, happy life. It's similar to why I'm upset by Connor's death in After the Fall. Both Connor and Dawn were introduced to help angel and Buffy "grow up" and become parents. For them to die just seems like a way to torture Angel and Buffy more. The worst thing that can happen to a parent is to lose a child.

Emmie, I agree completely.
I think of anyone, Dawn should live on and on to a full life. Buffy died for HER. Killing Dawn would severely destroy Buffy's greatest feat, laying down her own life for that of her sister and friends.
Maybe this is why Joss has gone with the transformations theme. He can't kill her, so he'll mess with her another way!

Emmie, thats is why I was so pissed off with Connor's death .... I hate that Angel lost him and that Darla sacrifice her life for Connor to die so young, there was so much story to still be told with with Connor's life ... ... and yes thats the same with Buffy/Dawn but they did it before...which I am so PISSED about...

Buffy has already undermined her scrifice in "the Gift" by saying in "Lies My Parents Told Me" she would let Dawn die to save the world if it happened again. Maybe what we're heading toward is the resolve of that, wherein Dawn's existence is seriously threatened and Buffy will realise again just what her sister means to her. I'm really hoping Buffy can re-establish that bond with her friends and family that I found so powerful in the show. She lost her way in the grand scheme of things in Season 7.
I do think Dawn is untouchable now; I don't see as much of a link between her and Connor as you other guys do. Him dying fits Angel's story perfectly in my opinion.

Probably, but we do have covers all the way through #23 now, and #21 isn't even out yet. Not that I'm not uber-curious as to what it'll be like. If nothing else... GILES and FAITH! Together! Again!
