So Spiked came up with the idea that Claire Saunders played by Amy Acker was at one point an active. And when her "5 year contract" was up, she was forced to work at the Dollhouse and the same will happen to Echo and Sierra... Thoughts?

I have only read about Dollhouse (not about the first ep tho) and that sounds cool, I bet your right... can she become active again ? I would LOVE to see Amy Acker kick ass again...

I think that's an interesting way to look at it. I mean, really, she could have just had all the medical knowledge put inside her head, much in a way that Gunn had all the knowledge of the law put inside his head, and everyone else on Dollhouse( I just keep seeing all of these Btvs/AtS references in my head! eek!). I bet she was an active prior to this, and I am curious who cut her face up. I wonder if it happened when she was on a former mission that turned ugly. They had to be some jagged cuts into her face, to not heal like that...hmm...

i think the general consenses is that she used to be a doll but i have not heard the idea that she was not allowed to leave at the end of her term. that is a great theory that makes a lot of sense considering what we know so far! nice work

Maybe she didn't want to leave the Dollhouse after her "accident" why would you want. Maybe because of what happened on her mission they felt sory for her and offerer her a place in the dollhouse to help the actives and make sure they don't suffer more accidents like hers.

Maybe she's still a doll. And her "engagement" is a long one. She has to take care of the other dolls.

I think she got cut by a doll. I got that sense when Echos mind was wiped and she tried to touch Claire's face. Claires body language obviously showed she was uncomfortable but also like it has happened before.

I really think it is too soon to go into conclusions, since we have only seen a little of her in one episode. I dont know what to think yet.

Did I miss something with the five year contract? Was this in the beginning of the episode when they were interviewing Echo?

I just thought: How would the Actives even know that 5 years of their life are over?
Maybe they're in forever.

When the show was first announced, Joss said that Actives sign over five years of their lives, and are rewarded with a large sum of money and no memory of said five years. No idea if he's still playing by those rules though.

No idea if he's still playing by those rules though. Interesting. I wouldn't be able to trust the people running Dollhouse to give you everything back (i.e. your life). I would like to find out soon in the show what they are planning on doing with the actives when they become inactive, as long as Alpha doesn't kill them.

I was reading in another thread that people were disappointed that the cause of Claire's scars was revealed so soon in series and I wanted to bring that up here.
I have to admit I was surprised by how quickly that came to light, but the reveal did raise some questions with me. Like, why did Alpha attack Claire? Was she the cause of his total recall or was she just a bystander? Why didn't he kill her?
Everyone is talking about Echo surviving, but no one mentioned that Alpha (who killed the others pretty quickly) left Dr. Saunders alive. Hurt & scarred for life, but still breathing.
Anyone else thinking there is more to her & Alpha's story?

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for. I was disappointed cause I thought it'd be much more personal, but I like the points you brought up, gives me hope that there will be a lot more to it, maybe it is more personal. I wonder what her character was like before Alpha hurt her. I think she said that it took Alpha 8 seconds to kill people with surgical precision. That's pretty damn fast, how'd she get away?

I brought up the question about why Echo and Claire were spared (in my questionnaire answers in "The Target" thread), and I am glad someone else is asking it as well!
There definitely has to be a reason why Claire wasn't killed, as it seems like everyone Alpha came in contact with was killed (except for Echo and Claire).
Perhaps Claire and Alpha had some sort of connection? Shared mutual feelings? It is definitely something I want to learn more about.
Amy's face when Boyd mentioned Alpha in "The Target" was filled with a ton of emotion.
