The Scoobies are my favourite relationship in either show! I love Buffy/Xander/Willow, I just adore them. They've always been with each other, without the other they'd be lost, they're the reason Buffy made it as far as she did, and through all the doomed romances they've remained consistent and together. I love 'The Wish' and how it shows what Buffy would be like without Xander, Willow or Giles. At the start of the episode Buffy's speaking about Faith to Xander and Willow and how "slayings a rough gig and too much alone time isn't healthy, stuff gets pent up." I loved how we opened with that and then saw this come to fruition in the alternate universe, showing a Buffy who "doesn't play well with others" who's cold, distant, at a loss with the world "we fight, we did, wishing doesn't change that" and who's a weaker slayer, dying at the hands of the Master without a Scooby to save her life. The relationships gone through some really tough times and hardships, I mean it never truly got the attention it deserved in the last two seasons. I *hated* Buffy’s line that Spike was the only one watching her back, and loathed the terribly written mutiny in ‘Empty Places’ but I really think Joss is redeeming himself with season eight. We’ve had some really solid Scooby bonding, the panel of Willow/Buffy hugging in ‘The Long Way Home’ made me squee! And I loved how all three of them and their relationship seems to be the focal point of the series again. In my opinion the core three are the very foundations of the series, without them, it would crumble and fall. In my opinion it's the most important relationship of the series, far more important than Bangel or Spuffy that have both passed, and will always be the underlying strength of 'Buffy.'

The Scooby dynamic is really the reason why I love this show. They're easily the best group of characters to ever appear on television. I always loved when they would do stuff that regular people did, the beach scene from Buffy vs. Dracula comes to mind. That's one of my favorite scenes in the series but it is WAY too short. I could of watched an entire episode with them just hanging out at the beach.

The very unique and special relationship between these four people is the first thing that really got my attention while watching this series.
I love the core four characters together as an entity all it's own. For example, I have grown over the years to not care as much for Willow. Having said that, it is imparative for me, as a fan, that Willow always be in the series because of this core element.
Buffy is by far my favorite character but I couldn't stand to continue if any of the others were erased from the series. It takes all four of them. Buffy, Giles, Xander and Willow. They are a family.

Ummm.. I do in that I believe Buffy, Xander, Willow & Giles the be the core of "Buffy" for me. They are the characters I always love.
I think in terms of "scooby gang" Giles isnt, just because I believe that is more about the 'friendship' dynamic of the three 'kids' and Giles has more of a father & adult-figure, and therefore "scooby" doesn't do him the same justice...and he is always a bit on the outer with the 'kids', they only have a dynamic of 'needs' and not so much 'friends' with Giles.
But it's still a great dynamic!

Do people consider Giles a part of the scoobies? Giles was present at the 'we're your scoobies' conversation I do believe, and I think he is too. I only ask because it seems many people in referring to the scoobies leave Giles out, and now he's physically separated from Xander/Buffy/Willow. I personally think of him as one of the scoobies, but I wonder if he's been written out of the role for good.

I've always thought of him as one of the scoobies because even though he is older than them they aren't particularly respectful of him and they don't listen to him a lot of the time so I don't think he should be set apart.
