What? No topic for the by far cutest, interesting, most tear-sheding couple ever? Definitely a no-no! Aww, everytime I think about them I have to sigh. Both only had a week of an effective relationship, yet they shared a very strong bond all the way. Both died, both came back one way or the other and nevertheless they were not meant to be happy. I hope they will have their redemption in the after-life, after "After the Fall" finally ends. They went a very long way from Season 3 to Season 5 to finally get together, but I still enjoy episodes like Soulless, Smile Time, Waiting in the Wings where they didn't actually got together but I think that's not the point between the two of them. They were just meant to be and the road they had to take to realize this, is still heartbreaking and -warming. I love 'em!

I think I'm going to go re-watch A Hole In The World now. Siiigh. Fred and Wesley, and Tara and Willow are definitely the cutest and strongest Buffyverse couples.

I loved Wesley/Fred in Season 3 and 4, but thought its progression in Season 5 wasn't particularly organic... I especially had trouble buying Fred's feelings for Wesley, after she'd finished crushing on every guy but him (Angel and Gunn and Knox and possibly Spike then Wesley -- within, what, three seasons?). King of Cretins said it would have had the best setup in the series if they had gone for it in Season 4, but after that it felt a bit forced, and I tend to agree. But maybe that's because I have trouble understanding and "clicking" with Fred's character...? Did any of you have the same problem, or did the development work for you?

This is my favorite relationship in the Buffyverse and the only relationship I would say I "ship." When it comes to every other ship in the 'verse, I really don't have a strong opinion about what happens with them, but ever since Wesley first showed an interest in Fred in S3 (and then lost her to Gunn), I waited while he silently suffered for them to finally happen. Their kiss in Soulless is one of my all-time favorite scenes from both shows.
As for their development in S5, I didn't have any issues with it. In the end, it was all about extending Wesley's suffering for as long as possible. I also didn't have any issue with Fred's crush on Knox, as this, along with her past with Gunn and crush on Angel, was really all just build-up for Fresley. It took her two years to realize who was right for her, and I was okay with that. They found each other in the end, which made all of the build-up worth it. The Knox/Wesley rejection plot in S5 also helped give us some wonderful scenes like in Lineage and Smile Time.

But maybe that's because I have trouble understanding and "clicking" with Fred's character...? Did any of you have the same problem, or did the development work for you? I definitely see your point, but I think the various crushes she had really differed in intensity and integrity. First there was Angel - well Winifred did live in cave for 5 years. In another dimension. With her being a little bit ackward from the beginning, how could she not have a slight crush on a handsome hero that saved her and looks good in a wifebeater? Then there was Gunn - well, I never got this. As Cordy said, Wes and Fred were meant to be all the way. Why she fell for Gunn I don't know, but I think their love was (until Supersymmetry) real. Next in line is Knox. Well, there was some sparkling and (as Fred always does in a way) Fred was a little bit dewy-eyed, concerning Wes' and Knox' feelings for her. And then - Wesley. Well, I figure since Wesley turned badass he became a real attraction for Fred. Their kiss (which was returned by Fred) in Soulless was a crucial point to see that they would get together eventually. I admit, Fred is on several occasions pretty naive concerning Wesleys's feelings for her, but through Season 5 she developed as intense feelings for him, as he did for her, so it worked out fine in the end.

This is a sad shipping just cause the way they ended. I thought it was so cute when they finally got together officially. Then in the next episode if I remember right it was over. They didn't get their chance and it was a shame. Favorite Fred line to Wesley, "You make me happy." After Lorne called her sunshine right before she... I have to stop now or I'm going to cry again.

^^ I know how you feel Everytime I watch Hole in the World I cry. Usually right around the time Wes reads from Little Princess, because I know what's going to happen next. And hey, I'm getting choked up just thinking about it. I can't believe we missed this ship!

Then there was Gunn - well, I never got this. As Cordy said, Wes and Fred were meant to be all the way. Why she fell for Gunn I don't know, but I think their love was (until Supersymmetry) real. I never got that relationship either. Most of the relationships in Angel really made no sense to me. The exceptions are Cordy and Angel, although they really didn't have a serious relationship, Wesley and Lilah, I'm not sure why but it made sense that Wes during his road to the darkness would be involved with her, and of course Fred and Wes. Fred and Wes was the one that made the most sense, sadly they didn't really do much with it. I was annoyed that they had her stay with Gunn for so long. That one should have ended with in a few episodes and she should have gone to Wes. Then just when they started to have a really good solid relationship, they kill her off. I was so annoyed! The relationships is absolutely a reason I didn't like Angel as much as Buffy.

I've been giving this couple a lot of thought lately.
I went back to when the gang abandoned Wesley. Fred was worried for him, but she still left him. She ditched him just as much as Angel, or Gunn. And then she only ran to him when she needed help. Fred also only fell for Wesley when he turning into a badass. I really just don't look at this shipping the same now. I think they did love each other, but I don't think it's all together a good kind of love. Not a natural kind.

They are an amazing couple, so sweet together. It was sad that it didn't get to play out.
