Whatever happened to Luke? I always wanted him to appear in a episode like "Fool for Love" or "Darla" just for continuity's sake. He was supposedly one of the master's greatest warriors. I love that his name is so New Testament....he IS quite the fanatic. He's been around since 1843 at least. :smart: I LOVE when Giles calls Christianity "mythology." Some great early mentions of Old Ones. I always forget how brunette Buffy is in season one! It always irritates me how weak Darla is in these episodes. She should defiitely know that Buffy is the Slayer, and be less afraid of the Master....unless she is still trying to make up for choosing Angelus over him. Great moment--"They can fly?" "They can drive." Is the fence scene at the same high school? I don't think we've ever seen that location since. "They've got that royal family and all kinds of problems." It's so dark! I always forget just HOW dark season one is until I watch it again. Angel is being kind of a jerk in the mausoleum. Poor Jesse. Never even gets to be mourned. I always thought it would have been awesome if Eric Balfour had come back as Xander's dead person"in "Coversations with Dead People." Do you think anyone explained to Jesse how dangerous it is to break your cover in a dark room with the Slayer? In any other season, he'd be instant dust. Buffy's still closing them in with him! All Xander has is a cross! This would never fly later! The Master should know that he can't drink Buffy until "Prophecy Girl." It's what the prophecies declare. He's always been one for rituals and ancient rites. Although, if he thinks that The Harvest is going to be successful, he must think that the other prophecy is unnecessary. Hmm... How interesting that The Harvest has The Vessel feeding on souls, rather than blood. Do we ever really see/hear of vampires "feeding on" souls again after this episode? Oh, Joyce....."The books all say I should get used to saying it: No." At least garlic is seen sparsely, but this is the only time that we see Buffy stockpiling (presumably blessed) hosts. Unless you tricked the vamp into ingesting them---I don't really see the usefulness. That's probably why she stopped carrying them once she started training with Giles. "Friday no cover." And yet, a bouncer taking money. I love the little flaws in this episode. It makes me love it more ;D Haha. I just read Dracula, and I love that Jesse's sex appeal increases tenfold once he's been sired, just like Lucy's does. Also, Darla leading the troops to the Bronze in slowmo will always be awesome. "Next." Priceless Wow! Darla pushes Cordy onto the stage! How odd! Do you think she has any recollection of interacting with Cordelia when she is resurrected? I imagine she's not like "Oh, I tried to get you killed one time..." But in Angel season two, Cordelia DEFINITELY knows all about Darla. I've always loved the blue lighting when Buffy is on stage. "Sunrise." Buffy is so sassy!! You'd think Angel would have helped them fight in the Bronze--since the alternative was the Master getting loose. How appropriate that Buffy both "blows something up" and engages in "excessive non-studying"....and that neither of them is the thing that gets her kicked out of school. I love season one! I'm so glad we're doing these Tuesdays, because it means that I'll start making more time for Buffy!!!

darthrosenberg9, I love absolutely everything about your post haha I always loved the character Luke. He's definitely a throw back to the romanticized portrayal of Vamps doing rituals, speaking in weird olde english-y terms..it always struck me that Season 1's baddies were so "old school", as a super contrast to Buffy's overload of "new school", if you get my meaning. Buffy and gang are uber 90's, and the Vamps in this season (Accepting Darla and Angel) are like, uber 1790's. I love it!! And yeah, the shot of Buffy on the stage of the Bronze was the best clip to close out the credits..EVER..followed closely by the hell-dimension axe-weilding Buffy from Season 3 premiere.. Tangent: The credits/theme always end with a clip of Buffy looking all heroic and awesome right? NO! S5's BuffyBot impersonating Buffy to distract Glory is featured, and let's not forget that The First in Buffy-form is the S7 ending clip. Yes I've noticed this, Yes I'm discussing it, Yes I'm a nerd, and No, I'm so not embarrassed by these facts Final Point: I'm LOVING watching these S1 eps...can't wait for next Tuesday!! The Witch is one of my all-time favorite episodes..so classic Joss/Buffy!! yaysies!!

Buffy: Sunrise...it's in about 4 hours moron Loved it. The first episode got me into the show but that line above got me hooked. The fight scene in the Bronze between Luke and Buffy was great. Sham about Jessie and that he was never ever metioned agin after episode despite being Willow and Xanders friend. I know he was meant to return in season 7's Converstion With Dead People but meh. Also did you all know that orignially Darla was going to be killed with the holy water that Willow threw on her but Joss decided to keep the charatcer around for a while longer. Imagine if she did die though. There would be no more deep episodes into her Angel(us) life pre Sunnydale and no Connor. Over all a very nice episode, looking forward to the Witch next week.

Imagine if she did die though. There would be no more deep episodes into her Angel(us) life pre Sunnydale and no Connor. Hmm, good thing? Buffy: Well, I gotta look on the bright side. Maybe I can still get kicked out of school! Xander: Oh, yeah, that's a plan. 'Cause lots of schools aren't on Hellmouths. Willow: Maybe you could blow something up. They're really strict about that. Buffy: I was thinking of a more subtle approach, y'know, like excessive not studying. Giles: The Earth is doomed! Good times! I love Witch. Next tuesday, hurry.

From IMDB:
7/10 This is part two of the series premiere, picking up right where "Welcome to the Hellmouth" left off. Buffy's trying to stop the Master and his minions from "harvesting" lives and freeing the Master from his underground prison. This is an okay episode that is still working to build the series' back story. The Master isn't my favorite villain,(I like Angelus, Spike & Dru, the Mayor & Faith, Glory and the Trio & Dark Willow all better), but he does have a certain evil glee that's pretty entertaining. The episode also establishes Willow's talent with computers, gives Angel a name and introduces us to Harmony. Before Harmony was Angel's unicorn loving secretary or Spike's ditsy girlfriend, she was terrorizing Sunydale High at Cordelia's side. This is Harmony's first episode and even though she's not technically evil... She's still pretty evil. Watching Harm and Cordy bad mouth Buffy and Willow and Willow's sweet "push the deliver key" revenge is pretty fun. And Sunnydale's willful blindness towards super-natural happenings is illustrated for the first time at the end of the episode. Xander's right, it's no wonder property values in that town are so low.
On the downside, why is Jesse never mentioned again? You'd think his death would be worth at least a comment or two somewhere along the line. It could have been another reason for Xander to hate Angel and Spike. A "vampire killed my friend and now Buffy's dating one?!?" sort of deal. I even sort of hoped that Jesse'd be brought up again in season seven, as a image of the First and all, but no. He gets dusted and that's the end of it. Poor Jesse.
My favorite part of the episode: Buffy tricking Luke about sunrise at The Bronze, "It's in about nine hours, moron."

Maybe just girls no cover? Or you need id to get a drinking stamp and 16 year olds are paying to get a drinking stamp?
Good ending to the two part. I loved the line" The Earth is doomed" Almost c3po like. This one had more of the charm angel does. Um..I was way off Jesse. He gone quick!!!!

I do dearly love the two-part pilot. They look so young and innocent. Everything is still ahead of them and the show is still so pure in its metaphor. I never tire of it.
The last couple of times I've watched it, some discontinuities caused by hiding Angel's true nature have bugged me a little. How did he get into the masoleum in the middle of the day (we see it from her POV when she enters and it's empty, then he's behind her)? Did he leave as soon as Buffy goes underground (and if so, how?) or did he just let Xander go past him into a dangerous place (we have to assume the former since Xander doesn't mention seeing him)? [And later, in "Angel", why does Buffy think it's perfectly normal for him to stay in her room all day the day after they escape from The Three - who would be no threat in daylight?]

Buffy: Sunrise...it's in about 4 hours moron I know he was meant to return in season 7's Converstion With Dead People but meh. Its funny that you say that. I always thought that Jessie would have been a better person to appear to Willow than Cassie. I think Cassie is the lamest part of "CWDP"; not that I don't like the actress, but having that character appear to Willow makes no sense. This also could have been an opportunity to include Xander in the episode. I always assumed that they were kinda best friends. On a side note, I love the Master "You've got something in your eye"

The Harvest
The Good; Never suspected they'd turn Jesse and was shocked when they killed him (Xander bags his first vamp, it'll take Willow and Cordelia 2 whole seasons to kill their first). The fight at the end is terrific especially Buffy's trick and 'give me the Speilberg (such a shame that there are no more commentaries on season 1, roll on Buffy Special Edition DVDs). Love Willow's trick on Cordy and we have Harmony for the first time (here unnamed). Willow hacks for the first time. Great scenes with the hand trying to pull Buffy back into tunnels (Xander saves her for the first time?) whilst the sun going down has never seemed quite so menacing not to mention Darla skipping along to the Bronze.
The bad; The vamps seem affected by the all too common slow moving monster syndrome. Also all the bodies disappear from the Bronze at the end whilst considering they're supposed to be lifelong friends Willow and Xander seem to forget about Jesse awfully quickly. Also considering we later establish what a formidable vamp Darla is Willow seems to overcome her awfully easily with just a jar of holy water
Best line; Willow; I need to sit down Buffy; You are sitting down Willow; Oh, good
Questions and observations; the vamps look slightly different to what we later see, their skin more mottled and talons more pronounced. We later see in The Wish that whilst the Harvest would have been bad it wouldn't have been the end of the world. Is it Cordy who bumps into Jesse and forces him onto Xander's stake? I must say I'd never seen the supposed gay subtext between the Master and Luke until it was pointed out by Joss but now it seems impossible to miss 4/5 solid Buffy

one of my all-time favourite scenes:
############
WILLOW: (interjects) No, she's not.
CORDELIA: What?
WILLOW: She's not a psycho. You don't even know her.
CORDELIA: Excuse me? Who gave you permission to exist? Do I horn in on your private discussions? No. Why? Because you're boring.
HARMONY: Okay, I think the program's done.
CORDELIA: Finally the nightmare ends! Okay, so how do we save it?
WILLOW: Deliver.
CORDELIA: Deliver? Where's that? (searches the keyboard) Oh!
She hits the "Del" key, and her program disappears. She stares at the screen in wide-eyed, open-mouthed horror.
##################
you can see here that willow has always had a taste for revenge! this is some incredible forshadowing ...

Although I didn't read that article that Joss mentioning the homoeroticy of those two, I caught on to it but ignored it. XD I remember this pain: *Talking of Buffy being stealth* *Buffy STOMPS up the stairs* I forgot how EVIL Cordelia was first season. I really should have not been surprised later on. Yet I was . But hey, it's H.S. I heart that "Del" part. I still do. Willow, giving geeks a chance since '97.
