I saw the 1st episode of True Blood over the weekend. My wife works for the cable company so the HBO rep gave her a copy of the pilot.
For those who are not aware of this show, it's the new vampire show from Alan Ball, creator of 6 Feet Under staring Anna Paquin.
Since it hasn't aired yet I won't go into details, but overall it was a pretty good 1st episode. It's a slightly different approach to the vampire story, some of it is paralell to what might be happening in Season 8, with vamps becoming vouge. It usually takes me awhile to get to know the characters and become acclimated with a new show. I would reccommend watching, I think it debuts on 9/7. I am curious to know what you all think!

I'm definitely checking this out. I love Six Feet Under, but I also think the series has an interesting concept. I'm really looking forward to the premiere.

I quite like the sound of it. I think it's vampires, same idea of Angel Investigations type of thing. But I could be wrong. Think I will give it a watch to see if I like it. We need some good tv shows to tide us over

There are a lot of things the could explore, so a lot of options. Could end up being pretty good.

It's funny, I was just reading about this show earlier today. It's supposedly based on a series of vampire mystery novels. It actually sounded pretty interesting. Plus Anna Paquin is awesome.
Next Sunday, Sept. 7th.

It's based on Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire novels.
I don't have HBO so I'm going to have to find another way to watch it.

I watched it and I liked it. Definitely for a mature audience but the story was good and it seems well plotted out. I'm still not completely sold yet, I'll have to watch another episode and see what they do next before I commit long term.
I think what I like about it the most is that it is completely not like Buffy. It's nice to see a fresh take on vampires and this show seems to be more mystery than horror.

maybe it can hold its own as a mystery series. but I just dont think its gonna find an audience. but just as you said, im def gonna give it another go with the next episode. hopefully since i work at a home based office the lil ones will be off and away.
lets just say a hand job on tv when a two year old and your bosses come home made for some chuckles. i love my bosses cause they just compared it to 90210's blow job and made fun of the faces the guys made lol

I've been meaning to see this as well, but I can't afford HBO at the moment. Six Feet Under was an incredible series.

I thought the pilot was pretty good. I will definitely be watching the next episode. I feel so bad for Sam though cause he like Sookie so much and now shes only interested in Bill. =(

I have not seen this yet, and I hope I can check out at least the first season, because that was when my friend Davey was in it. Sad that he is apparently not in this season.

I'll be there for episode 2 for sure. I think it is somewhat of an original take, but I do find it interesting that vampires are going public in Season 8 soon, and this universe is very similar in that regard.
I do look forward to seeing what happens this Sunday!

Now this show actually looks pretty interesting. I had just heard about it a week or so ago and unfortunately i don't have HBO but i did find the first issue of it at a comic book store I go to so I'm thinking about just picking that up.

True Blood on HBO, premiered Sept. 7, 2008.
FYI, the novels written by Charlaine Harris have a huge fan base. IIRC, before writting Sookie Stackhouse Ms. Harris wrote romance novels. I wish this was so much better than what we're seeing on the screen! First episode, Strange Love, was so slowly plotted to border on having no plot at all. IOW, nothing seems to happen in the episode. The second episode, The First Taste, is plotted at a slightly greater than the snail's pace of the first one. After seeing The First Taste, I'll be watching the next one, too. s p o i l e r s p a c e s p o i l e r s p a c e YOU'VE BEEN WARNED Spoilers follow
The main character vamp is named Bill, REALLY! This is the third main vamp character named Bill or some derivative of same. There are more given names for men in English, and someone needs to pick one. (That's a niggling point, but it annoys me).
Not so good storytelling. Example in the first episode this couple of drug dealer low lifes, the Ratray's (characterized very typically for their type), try to drain Bill of his vampire blood (in this universe vamp blood is an illicit drug that's very valuble), and Sookie saves him. The low life's overpower Bill without much of struggle, that's how it appears on screen. Afterwards, Sookie discovers that vamps can be immobilzed and held captive with silver chains, and then Bill tells Sookie to keep that a secret since his kind like to keep their secrets. WTF, it's not much of a secret if these low lifes know about it!
It suffers, too, from excruciatingly bad dialogue (think Attack of the Clones bad).
The character of Sookie's grandmother makes me want to claw my eyes out everytime she's on screen; FWIW, this same actress played a relative of Ryan and Cyril O'Reilly on Oz and I did not like her there either.
I liked a lot better Moonlight than this. Perhaps, fans will come to True Blood for its supposed 'off beat' nature.
Sorry to rain on everyone's parade of praise and admiration for this new HBO series.

Did you like the 2nd ep? I think it is getting better...
