Hey guys, I'm new to the boards and have never written any actual Buffy fanfics, but I've got a couple ideas I wanted to throw out and see what people thought about them. Feel free to tell me that they'd end up boring, that's kinda the point to this.
My first idea is about a group of Sunnydale High students that are normal in every sense of the word. At times it could be tied into direct episodes of Buffy where they react to things going on around them or a more general story of how they deal with all the death and odd things. I started thinking about this when Larry was talking in the season 3 opener, "If we can focus, keep discipline, and not have quite as many mysterious deaths, Sunnydale is gonna rule!"
The second thing I wanted to write fits more into the fanfic genre and it's some of the things that happened in between cuts on Buffy. When an hour long episode happens over a couple of days in Buffy-time there's a lot that we don't get to see. Most of this is going to be car rides and walks to the Magic Box, but some of it could be worth exploring further.
So that's what I got, feel free to tear it to shreds or add in your own ideas.

I really like your first idea. Buffy, especially the earlier seasons, rely very heavily on one episode characters. Almost every episode in the first season and the beginning of the second season has a one episode character who all of the drama stems from. It would be very interesting to learn more about the one note characters.

Season Seven has it's one-episode-character moments, like with the girl who knows she's gonna die (okay, so the First comes back in her form, whatever) and RJ was a little that way, even though it focused a lot on Dawn as well. Also the episode with the woman whose dog was eaten by her stalker boyfriend Anya turned into a giant worm. "Aaaw! Puppy..."

i like both ideas. It would be really great to see what the characters would say in the off times. I havent gotten to hear it, but isnt that the same concept as your between the lines, tim?
And the idea of having normal teen drama highlighted by the monsters and death: also sounds good! I would read both ideas. I think the ideas are interesting.

Yeah, there were the ocassional one-ep characters peppered throught every season but at some point, the show shitfeted and started focusing the drama on the main characters, even when there was a one episode character who brought the rama in. Rj is a perfect exaple. Without him we would not have had that episode but he was far from the dramatic centerpiece of the episode where someone like Billy Fordham was in lie to me.
